  1. I would say most coaches do schedule most if not all sectional opponents at some point during the season. The issue that results in the later criteria having to be used usually comes from wrestlers moving weight classes, varsity and JV shuffling spots, injury/sickness during that dual meet, or the deaded round robin where you beat the guy, who beat a guy, who beat you. These issue you really can't help.
  2. Heck because of no common opponents and same winning percentage we had 2-3 coin flips determine it. Been a few year since we've seen it, but it happened a few times because of guys shuffling weight classes.
  3. Howe was wrestling to Polz of Illinois and hurt himself with around 30 seconds into the bout.
  4. KyMann I think you may be a little confused. I believe he is asking about Andrew Howe from Wisconsin. Wisconsin site is buzzing about it. http://www.wiwrestling.info/forum/index.php?topic=26031.0 But nothing I have read that is official yet.
  5. Yes. Our recent AD switch ended up causing some confusing on getting team regional secured. Shelbyville then was able to pick it up. While losing it wasn't a great thing for Seymour and teams close to us its now in a more central location for all teams involved.
  6. Obviously the seed meeting Monday will help with individual chances and team odds. But lets face it someone unexpected and low in the seeding always pulls of a great tournament and gets to regionals. So picking anything past the top two seeds getting top 4 and moving on is usually a shot in the dark. From team dual results and HHC Conference team results I would say team wise: Columbus East has the current edge over Jennings County. However, this has been a great battle to watch all season that could easily go either way with the additional spoilers the rest of the teams have at each weight. Seeding could definitely play a factor here. Depending on bonus points and wrestlers stepping up in wrestle-back rounds Columbus North, Madison, & Seymour in the next 3 spots.
  7. Columbus North needs to be added to the list.
  8. I believe the host schools AD work in conjunction with the IHSAA to determine what should be decided due to an extreme weather situation.
  9. If I recall the Jay County issue wasn't the usual snow issue that is generally covered in the IHSAA policy. I agree it would be nice if they would formulate a working policy now. The confusion and the resulting "policy on the fly" that morning/afternoon of the event didn't work out so smoothly last year.
  10. I would guess that falls under some type of liability issue. This would involve them going to and from a scheduled school sporting event with someone other than their own parent or through school transportation. I'm guessing it would be hard to get all or even enough parents to take the individual kids with that type of notice, plus at that school they may not allow parent transportation anyways. Schools are all paranoid about that those type of things. Just out of transportation convenience, I'm sure it has happens occasional if the parents are in charge of getting kids to an event against a cross town opponent.
  11. You have done a wonderful job for the Tech program. Both your wrestlers and Tiptons (especially the Seniors) do not deserve to be treated in this manor. I have my own complaints about administrative decisions when it comes to how the wrestling team and wrestling room is treated but this is a whole new level of bad decision making. This is truly a low for the IPS administration and a sad moment for the sport.
  12. You want to see the ugly side of getting a Staph Infection see how bad MMA star and former wrestler Kevin Randleman had it. Put him out of fighting for a long time.
  13. Since you are having no wrestling practice, no physical conditioning of any kind, no manditory team meeting, etc. I do not feel this is what the coaches contact guidelines was designed to do. Or if it is it shouldn't be. It's one thing to make it manditory or hold an actual practice, but all this comes down to is going to the same place to watch a college sporting event. I see it as no different than a coach helping at a youth group outing at church, everyone meeting at the local food hotspot to watch some NFL games, or getting some of the members of the team to volunteer their time helping with a community service project. Guess they will have to make seperate ropes off coaches section from the wrestlers section. I'll be at the meet watching some solid wrestling. Seems like the IHSAA has a few other issues to worry about with skin infections, weight managment interpretation issues, transfer issue .....not to mention the other winter sports going on make these type of "good will" events into a high priority witchhunt.

    Infection

Until you can get a doctors note that says its cleared beyond the point of being contagious. If not you run the risk of a ref noticing a small mark left from it and thinking its a growing case.
  15. I have seen your boys (and daughter) do far to many positive things to let just one isolated incident of missing the podium in order to "cooled down" change my overall view of any of them. From what I know about him I'm sure in retrospect he realized the error in judgment without even being addressed about it.
  16. I'm all for stats, but maligned you sure find a way to take it to a whole new level of evaluation. Glad someone has the mind mapping skills able to work through the numbers needed to analyze wrestling related information because I for one sure can't wrap my head around all of it. Numberz: I'm not positive, but I believe his information is geared more towards the team dual meet side of things rather than individual wrestler information. There may be some relation between the two, but the differences in how individual vs team scoring works may be where you are running into trouble when figuring out some of the results. However, my guess would be with all maligned data and formula's he probably has something or can figure out something for the individual side of things too.
  17. Tie. Very back and forth match. Brands said it best though that lack of bonus points hurt Iowa's chances of putting down a good Oklahoma St. squad. Iowa's dual winning streak comes to an end, but by definition their unbeaten dual streak continues.
  18. You have to have 6 weigh-ins to participate in sectionals. It does not say they have to be at your sectional weight class. Not sure on the wording but it does say says something about having one weigh-in at scratch weight of your sectional weight class. You can get a weigh-in without actually participating in that wrestling event. Obviously you are expected to follow your personal eight management plan to get to that scratch weight and the plan to to know what your minimum weight for sectionals can be. The previous rule of having so many qualifying weights at you sectional weight was removed when the new weight management plan was put in place.
  19. Can't they show this stuff after the Jets game? Good thing they invented the last channel button on remote control, so I can flip between them. Oklahoma State may be able to find an edge back in this long time battle.
  20. I'd say if anything it show the Genius Rankings, because of how it is set up, may be better at pick a dual meet situation than an individual tournament one. Since both had different factors in how a winner is determined. The Genius Ranking also have some slight flaws even then since the nature of our sport causes movement in weight class throughout the year which could cause a slightly bigger impact when compared to how the rankings from football or basketball work if one player (unless he is super special) is out of their line up. Agreed it is a good system that does help show where the dual team strength around the state. But, because of the nature of moving people around in weight classes and the different in a dual compared to a individual tournament I think wrestling may be a harder to develop a accurate point spread for compared to others.
  21. Just think with the way regional finals matches go and the semi-state draw the numbers you gave could fluctuate up or down easily. I would say JC, CE have the best shot at getting more than one guy through. Some some luck either team could get 3-4 to state. Weekly & Shepard from Jeff and Kennedy from FC being the next best two but both team can usually get a few kids to semi-state and that at least a chance of getting another kid to state. Our conference in unique in that we only split between two sectional and never see the other group until semi-state. In some cases that causes our conference to hurt each other chances causing a few early eliminations in semi-state. In other cases it help cause in some weights our sectional may be tougher than our regional and the conference will advance multiple kids at one weight to semi-state increasing the chances of someone from it advancing to state. For most of the rest it going to take some Someone that is more than deserving usually makes a costly error and get a very hard draw so that make predictions hard. Another guy has a great match and get a great draw. There are multiple factors to look into to figure out how many actually go but the HHC has enough talent to get a few guys through and represent the conference well.
  22. Noblitt did look solid on the day and waited to his opportunity against Kennedy. But going off the "Genius Rankings" I would say it was an anomaly. Those rankings have little East scores with Noblitt (or anyone) at 103 which would lower East expected results compared to the actual results. The advancements points for Noblitt and the pin points verses Kennedy who would have been factor in as helping Floyd based on the teams previous results was a big factor in Guinus Rankings not equally reality. Just as the rankings would have most of JC results with Baldwin in the lineup which would increase their expected results compared to the actual results. Though I will say his replacement is a solid wrestlers which shows some of the depth JC has as a team. Just saying why sometimes background information doesn't equal reality since many factors change throughout the season in wrestling.
  23. Not sure I completely agree with those numbers. But a big factor does comes down to how these guys can set themselves up through regional placement and if the semi-state draw is kind or not.
