  1. That was my thinking too. Other than the match continued since the three red consensus wasn't to award 5 at the time of the throw. I would think that is the equivalent of keep wrestling until you hear the whistle. Since the match wasn't stopped after the throw the action continued after. The point value of the throw was contested after the tech fall and reduced from what I believe was scored as 3 (by two judges) to 1 (after the argument). But I would have assumed the moves that occurred after would have counted since the action continued after the throw. I guess we need one of these fancy Tom Clark explanations for this one.
  2. Great match. I see the score listed at Dec 2-2,2-5,3-1 for McKinley. But I'm a little fuzzy on the 2-2 score for the first period. Any help on breaking that one down. The takedown (at least 1) and two gutwrenches (at least 1 each) at the start would have got him 3 point if not more. Did they discount the turns because of the throw controversy for some reason? Was there an error we didn't catch via the video?
  3. I've been waiting several seaosn for them to get a good season of lower weights fighting and some of the light weight coaches.
  4. Nice tournament Kayla. You will represent Indiana and America well at Worlds. On a side note, Demi Strubb also did well coming in second to Adeline Grey in the Junior 67kg division. Grey is a former Junior World Champion, two time US Open Champion and had previously placed fifth in the Senior World Championships. Does anyone have word on Sarah Hildebrandt? Her names seems to be absent from the national women's competitions since the high school season ended.
  5. I will say things running are decently smoothly today. Hats off to the ISWA staff for there efforts. Hopefully attendance will improve over next few years and warrant a two session split.
  6. Is there a comparison to the previous few years? I'm sure picking up on a trend would help determine how to set up future state events. Plus if certain age groups are slipping in the numbers there may be some ways to make the event more attractive to them in particular.
  7. I was a little suprise they didn't have a split between a morning and afternoon session on Saturday along with the morning session Sunday. Hopefully, it runs smoothly without it, but this is a different enviroment to work off of compared to the state fairgrounds. I would hope the numbers would be strong enough to almost make a split essential, but state seems to not attract as many competators as it once did. The split sessions may something to tweek for next year after we see how the weight it between matches and the crowd issues are this year. One things for sure it will be a weekend full of good wrestling matches.

    Brock Out

People are just falling like flies in the last few PPV. Hopefully this is all just unforunate timing and will not be a trend. With the addition of the WEC guys phased into the PPV you would think the fighters would at least get an extra month or two off between fights which would help with fatigue and injury recouperation. But, over training, unforseen medical issues and unfortunate falls are still causing some problems with the current fight cards.
  9. Well Brock may want to look a little better for the camera now, but previous issues prove that at one point he really wanted to portray the jerk and tough guy persona when the camera were rolling. So if anything he's learned to balance that one out. If they have Carwin involved now it will be much more sledge hammer boxing for sure.
  10. Yeah, but Lenn also had a little bit of a mental breakdown the last few episodes and was angry he didn't get the wild card. I tend to think some of that was over emphasized because of his frustration. The editors obviously used it though to create at least some drama in an otherwise bland season. Brock admitted early on he wasn't going to be the best hands on coach so thats why he assembles such a large team. Brock also told Lenn exactly why he had reservation about him fighting as soon as he was asked when he could have came up with several other reason for why he wasn't choosen. When it really comes down to it we see that same type of meltdown every year when soemone feels they are getting the short end of the stick. While Brock may not be the greatest guy in the world the show has at least allowed people to see more of his personality than we had seen previously.
  11. I agree the show is helping people see more sides to Brock than just the persona he built up in his first few UFC fights.
  12. A few other random thoughts. A recap of how individuals or the team did at national events over the summer. Way for coaches to prompt the sport in the community, improve dual meet attendance, start or improve a youth programs. Teams or individuals who have done something special for the community outside of just wrestling. Anything that may add to the improvement of our sport. Information from an expert/specialist on nutrition, refueling, weight management, lifting, cardio, preventing injury, how to go about marketing yourself to colleges, etc..... It would be great if this was a bi-yearly magazine. One right before the season and one after Christmas Break. But I'm guessing with the season in full swing it would be hard for many of those involved in to get a second edition out. Though if you had a ton of the articles made ahead of time (split them between each edition) and just updated the team in individual information based on the season it maybe possible if done in a digital form. For two editions a year I can see paying a slightly higher price.
  13. I mentioned this on another thread but the ISWCA said the IHSAA told them they needed to complete any type of event prior to the start of the IHSAA individual state tournament series. One complaints about the IHSAA team state series was that it was happening during individual state and thus drew wrestlers focus away from that. Another complaint was that since the IHSAA state finals was after individual state it did not get as much attention as maybe is should have since people felt the culmination of the year came at individual state. I believe the team state competition maybe helped if it occurred earlier in the year. The issue is finding the best time to have it so other important contests like conference tournaments are not disrupted by it.
  14. Sounds like a decent idea if you can get it all to come together. Here are some random ideas for topic that would relate well to wrestling. Maybe a few would work if you can find the right people. "International Update" Being we have several wrestlers right now who are fighting for top sport in the national team it may be nice to hear what they have been up and events they have won while trying to make the next Olympic team. "Stories from the past" section highlighting some of the previous moments of Indiana wrestling through the years. "Where are they now" section detailing what some of the former top wrestlers in the state who have went on to do something prominent since high school (college wrestling, excelled in business world, coaching, etc.). Kind of a look into how wrestling changed their lives in some way.
  15. Sure been nice if we could get the season was extended out a week or two longer. Then we could just plug it into that time period and the problems would be solved. Guess that would conflict with some type of basketball issue though we know whose going to win out if thats the case. While we are at I'd like to the official start a week earlier to give kids more time to get in shape, learn the basics, and shed the excess weight correctly before the first week of meets.
  16. The ISWCA was told by the IHSAA they had to complete any such event prior to the start of the IHSAA individual tournament starting.

    UFC 130

There could be the situation, as has happened before, where Dana White tries to make it up to the fans by schedules another TV event to occur that wasn't previously planned. Would be a nice jesture, but doesn't really make up much for those that have tickets to the event. Not to mention these changes are on top of the fact that the card has already had issues. T. Silva pulled out of Jackson fight and was replaced by Hamill. Several under card fighers has also been replaced, as well. In related news it's being reported that the UFC is planning on offering some type of health insurance option to the fighters. Strange timing on that one.
  18. I'm sure there is a halfway point that can be meet betwen the two sides which is somewhat accurate. Where that is at this point who knows. It seem though the biggest issue that started the downward spiral here was many involved look the other way on what was happing since it was helping the sports programs out. However, who started making more tactical decisions too then mask what was becoming an obvious issue will probably be anyones guess. One things I do agree with that was mentioned in the article. It is hurting the kids involves that were attending the school for the right reason and did nothing wrong in this case.

    UFC 130

Though this is a weaker card as far as promotion goes I would still think if both of the main fighers are out they will need to do more than a Mir vs Nelson fight to make up for it. I'd look to see if they can pull in another decent fight of known fighter on short notice. If not charge less for the PPV or even try to move it to a TV event possibly. Hope they are at least smart enough to do a little something extra for the fans that bought tickets to see the event live.
  20. I'm guessing the ratings have been hurt a little bit by the lack of drama, as far as the average MMA fan goes. However, I do agree there have been some decently even fights so far on the show. This next round should start to seperate the real cream of the show from the rest of the group. Bailey does have a decent shot of winning if he can stay health and avoid "getting caught" while in attack mode.

    UFC 130

Maynard's matches are the only mark's on Edgar's MMA record. Basically with the draw a similar story can be said for Maynard. I'm guessing someone going away with a clear loss in this one.
  22. The ISWCA board was told in a meeting with the Assistant Commissioner of the ISHAA that they had decided to end the team state tournament after next season. That is about as official as they have made it thus far. Here is the information as posted by ISWCA President at the time Cale Hoover. http://indianamat.com/messageboard/index.php/topic,17235.0.html
  23. Well thought out idea. I think this could be a useful in many different ways. The issue would be continuing to find topics that would connect with wrestling and satisfy the educational criteria.
  24. Here is a link to an earlier thread that talks about the national teams. http://indianamat.com/messageboard/index.php/topic,17166.msg121290.html#msg121290
  25. If you go to ustream.com and type in Beat The Streets you can find a replay of it. I'm guessing they will link the replay through themat.com at some point.
