  1. I really feel like the only way to feasibly pull it all off is to have all teams locked into wrestling on a couple of duals evenings and one particular Saturday. Then, teams that don't advance would also automatically fall into consolation duals and/or a consolation tournament according to pre-planned locations and opponent pools. Due to all the reasons mentioned, teams pulling in and out of events willy-nilly just won't work.
  2. Wow. I am not from one of these schools, and I somehow thought most coaches and fans loved the team tournament. If this is a common opinion, I must be way out of touch. The team aspect was huge for us when I was in school and when I coached, even though we had no chance against some top dogs most years. This outlook is extremely foreign to me.
  3. Most likely this: 1 random random 4 3 random random 2 If they seeded 5 spots, then the #5 faces the #4. If they seeded 6, then the #6 faces the #3. But these top 4 positions are always the same on a tournament bracket. By the way, just a friendly tip that ALL CAPS means you're yelling. Some on this board will find it a little annoying if you post like that.
  4. I hope Cottey knows he gets a 3-pound allowance this year.
  5. Even that would be complicated, since the duals are usually important conference and sectional opponents, necessary for determining individual seeding--and in some cases part of determining an overall team conference champion.
  6. I assume brackets are coming very soon.
  7. Follow the link, and it's an instant download plus the hard copy delivered to your door. Very, very cool magazine with lots of information.
  8. Quote by Chesterton's Coach Joll: "It's not going to change my philosophy as a coach too much," Joll said. "Instead of combing the hallways to fill certain weight classes, I'll spend my energy on making the 12 weight classes I can fill better." Yeah, it won't change the coaches' philosophy "too much." They just won't have the same motivation to get kids out for the sport, as he clearly states. This whole situation sucks in so many ways.
  9. Great choice. Unless you think you're headed for stardom in MMA, choosing the academics is the way to go for the long-term. With that said, was this strictly about academics and location, or did Kindig being at OSU for a couple more years have anything to do with it? I have no idea.
  10. Indiana's not quite at the point yet where we've got potential national champions ranked #1 at every weight class. Harvey's no different from hundreds of very good wrestlers before him that are deserving of the #1 rank in a weight class where there's no significant favorite. He wasn't undeserving of his rank last year either. He got upset. Upsets happen. In hindsight, Molloy was obviously #1, but it was difficult to gauge how much Molloy had improved. Looking back, it's easy to say Harvey was overrated; but he had certainly done enough previously to deserve being #1 over all the other candidates. This year is the same. He might not win it all, but he's definitely got the credentials to be #1 ahead of the other candidates at his weight. We'll see what happens.
  11. So the Capital City is going to be at full power. Somewhat surprisingly, everyone's out of the football tournament two weeks before the tournament. Should be some great individual match-ups. Team-wise, PM will run away with it, but the race for second between Jeff and Warren should be more interesting.
  12. Yeah, I've got Warren only a few points off the Top 30 pace. If you add in a helpful transfer, you'll probably be very near this group.
  13. Delphi lost a decent amount, despite returning a couple good kids. Looking quickly through the Genius data, I've got at least 4 other teams projected higher than them--SB Clay, Lowell, Portage, and McCutcheon. And Clay and Lowell should be quite a bit better than them.
  14. It's tough to base much off that match unless you're a top 5-10 team. As I said earlier, I have Dekalb very near the Top 30. They're an easy sectional favorite based on what everyone is bringing back--sorry, Caleb, that's not such a bold pick--and they'll have matches other than CP to show if they belong in the top 30 (or 20). Right now, I have them as 4-point underdogs or less against anyone above them until the top 20.

  16. I suppose it goes without saying, but you can get all the results (including records and grades) for each step of the state tournament last year at the IHSAA website. Even the sectional results are a good place to look for tough returning kids that may have gotten upset first round of regional.
  17. For duals, it's the Traicoff. The North Montgomery holiday tourney is not too far behind.
  18. I noticed you've got 2 from Westfield at 182. Maybe I missed the discussion on why.
  19. Yes, mostly. In some cases I knew of certain underclass starters not coming back or seniors being out for sectional. But, yes, it's mostly from sectional brackets and sectional results.
  20. Here are the team regional champion favorites based on preseason Genius ratings data: 1. Crown Point 2. Penn 3. Yorktown 4. McCutcheon 5. Hamilton Southeastern 6. Perry Meridian 7. Roncalli 8. Ev. Reitz Preseason Genius Top 30: http://www.indianamat.com/2011-preseason-genius-ratings/2011/10/
