  1. They announce the names of each school in alpha order and generally the number of qualifying wrestlers.
  2. I would like to wish good luck to all the former members of the Razorback Wrestling Club wrestling for state titles this weekend: Colton Cummings - Lowell Stevan Micic - Hanover Central Drew Hughes - Lowell Kenny Hughes - Lowell Jacob Tucker - Mount Carmel (Illinois) Jose Champagne - Marian Catholic (Illinois) Sorry if I missed anybody else. LPD096, Richard Neal, and Ken Hughes should be proud and it was one hell of a collection of talent. Clearly, many other coaches and clubs have contributed to their success as well, and it has been a pleasure watching them over the years. 6 titles would be awesome!
  3. it made me laugh!! and considering this thread went off the rails a while ago the chuckle was most needed.
  4. You've got to finish the wiki citation!! "Some gladiators were volunteers who risked their legal and social standing and their lives by appearing in the arena. Most were despised as slaves, schooled under harsh conditions, socially marginalized, and segregated even in death"
  5. Easily? Come on now! Wilson and James are not slouches. If he did in fact stay at 126 for the expressed purpose of wrestling Stevan that is awesome - no matter what the outcome.
  6. Coach Bell, You seem to think the decision to continue coaching is yours? I'm guessing the administration at the School City of Hobart might have some say. Substitute teachers and lay coaches are easily replaced.
  7. I still don't think the argument can be made without the ring. Example: I personally think Andrew Howe is Indiana's greatest wrestler. But if you look strictly at HS accomplishments, that distinction hast to go to Alex (maybe Lance). Both went through HS undefeated.
  8. Coach Bell, I don't know you and I will probably smack myself for getting into this conversation. However, like a lot of people on this message board I have been around a long time and seen a lot of things . You are clearly a passionate guy who cares about his wrestlers. So here's my advice, feel free to take it or leave it: Be humble. Black is probably the first state tournament wrestler you've coached, but act like you've been there before. I've met Brenden at the NCC tourney a month ago and he seemed like a very nice young man. Don't put a target on his back. And most of all, remember that this is HIS state tournament experience - not yours....
  9. Other than Davis, what are Lee's in-season notable victories? The topic is a freshman campaign, not national accolades. Jason beat former state champs. How does that not trump anything else? IMO, unless you're on top of the podium Saturday night it's a moot point.
  10. Did you send it to sportsfangms for proofreading? ;D
  11. He beat Kral at sectional and regional, as well as Woods at the semi-state. I think you have to include him.
  12. Agreed. I think sports in general was a different animal back then - no internet, limited video, not as huge of an ISWA presence, etc. Many wrestlers came into the state finals as relative unknowns. I do believe Larsen had a runner up finish on his resume, but certainly not the statewide reputation Myers had. I'm dating myself, but I remember how big of a deal it was to receive the pamphlet in the mail from the IHSWCA with the team and individual rankings. Technology has clearly changed things, especially the days of a virtual unknown shocking the world at the state finals.
  13. The only one I can recall other than Galka was Tim Myers from Bellmont in the mid 90's. He lost to a pretty good wrestler in his own right - Greg Larsen, who was in the corner for Micic's matches this past weekend.
  14. I tried. The doctor said I'm gonna top out at 5'6"
  15. The one where i said someone got smoked? Like i said last night, called it the way i saw it. I have no opinion on the torres match. I got there midway thru the ticket round and missed it. However, i did see micic take rumors of his demise personal and put on a clinic. Get off your highhorse, dude.
  16. Not stirring up trouble but 120 is weakened without torrres in it. Carithers also struggled in his semi match. 30 more seconds and he was in trouble. 132 may not have any placers, hence the weakest designation.
  17. Agreed. Better for the sport under the lights. Never gonna happen but would be awesome as the last match....much like dake/taylor.
  18. You must have been a heavweight!!! Unfortunately, I will have to settle for a hot and ready $5 pizza from the Little Caesars down the street from Merrillville HS....
  19. It was Birge and Bradbury in 1999. Not sure I would call it an upset though, Bradbury was no slouch himself (NAIA national champ?). Match was a result of Bradbury losing the week before to Ramos. In fact, they matched up with each other every week from the DAC conference tourney all the way to the state final match. Bradbury was up early in that finals match before Ramos head stacked and stuck him. One of many great memories from the finals. Last finals in Market Square. Damn, I'm getting old.
  20. Your response doesn't make sense? Please tell me you get the fact he's making fun of you misspelling "couch" for "coach?"
