  1. It's gonna be tough for MD. They are going to be young again. Of course they have Sims and Henderson, but they are going to have some young talent in the upper weights. MD also will have Boots, Weinzapfel, Schroeder, Appel, Adler, May, Maurer, and Brandenstein. Reitz has most of their team returning with a good jv team from last year. You look at Kuhn, Moody, VanHook, and Rueger in the lower weights, that's tough to beat. You add Boyle, King, Dowty, and Wimpleberg to the lineup and it looks good. As for Castle, they will have 3 Welch boys, Rosebrock, Daugherty, Weikel, and Brown. Sure they lost several good seniors, but they still have a solid lineup. It is going to be a great year for wrestling in the SIAC. I still think that MD can win because i think their schedule will make the younger wrestlers better. However, this may be Reitz's year to pull it out. It all depends on match ups for all the teams.
  2. John Sims may be at 145-152. If he is at Tonte's weight, my money is on Sims.
  3. Mater Dei only has about 275 boys in the whole school, so i do not think they have ever had 170 kids out. Now, if you want to also include the feeder program, than yes they put more than 170 kids out per year. Mishawaka will still compete with Penn. I think for the past decade Penn has struggled to compete with Mishawaka.
  4. I think they will continue their success and contend for the title. They have a great feeder program and some very talented young wrestlers. There have been many years when MD did not do so great individually, but they are always strong as a team (which will give you a shot at a team state title). Delta never had that opportunity.
  5. Imagine how much money will be lost this year at team state. With MD not being there, the IHSAA may lose thousands of dollars.
  6. You are only allowed to weigh in 24. I think the IHSAA only gives out 24 medals too.
  7. I know Appell wrestled 12 last Wednesday, but at the SIAC he pinned Doud in less than a minute. Then if Lannert does not get pinned at 12, MD wins. As far as calling these kids out on the internet, both of these wrestlers won the next time they wrestled a Castle wrestler (so did the MD 135). As a MD fan, I think we expected these two to win, amoung others. But this whole thread is calling out the WHOLE MD program. I do not want to take anything away form the MD wrestlers, they wrestled hard and have a lot to be proud of. Castle has a great team this year. Sending 8 to state is an acomplishment for any program.
  8. Mater Dei competed at a high level this year. They did beat Castle early on in the year along with Merriville and Reitz. If MD wins 140 and 160 against Castle last Wednesday (Appell pinning at 103) then they would be going to team state. Sometimes things do not always work out. I am sure they will be back on top soon. WOW are you seriously calling out these kids on the internet?? Appell wrestled 112 and Lannert wrestled 103 and had the Castle kids shoulders buried in the mat but did not get the fall. Point is MD did not get the pin, so even if 140 & 160 win MD still loses 23-22. The real question should be how does MD beat Castle 32-12 in December and then lose 29-16 in February?? I know Appell wrestled 12 last Wednesday, but at the SIAC he pinned Doud in less than a minute. Then if Lannert does not get pinned at 12, MD wins. As far as calling these kids out on the internet, both of these wrestlers won the next time they wrestled a Castle wrestler (so did the MD 135). 9. MD qualified 11 out of 14 in 1996 and again in 2007. I think they qualifed 10 in 2003 with 4 champs.
  10. Mater Dei competed at a high level this year. They did beat Castle early on in the year along with Merriville and Reitz. 11. It's tradition at MD, and should never change. It also seems like it would protect against some of the skin funk going around.
  12. At the SIAC, there were more 103's than 285's. Adding a 240 lb weight class does not make much sense. Just bump 103 up a few pounds.
  13. Your are right. Tim Nosko was JV for 3 years, but he was beat the first round at state. It was a heartbreak because he was like 39-0. Tim's little brother, Dustin, went on to win state several years later.
  14. This is how i see it. 103 - Reitz 6-0 112 - MD 6-3 119 - Reitz 11-3 125 - MD 11-6 130 - MD 11-9 135 - MD 11- 12 140 - MD 11 - 18 145 - MD 11-24 152 - Reitz 14-24 160 - MD 14-27 171 - Reitz 17-27 189 - Reitz 20 -27 215 - MD 20-30 285 - MD 20-36 MD wins 36-20 There will be some good match ups. If Reitz gets some more wins down low, it could be very interesting.
  15. It is going to be a tough day. Here is a prediction of individual champs. 103 - Kuhn R 112 - May MD 119 - Johns R 125 - Henderson MD 130 - Girten NP 135 - Weinzapfel MD 140 - Sims MD 145 - Zenthofer MD 152 - Ritter R 160 - Easterling MD 171 - Wedding Mem 189 - Price NP 215 - Ruggeri MV 285 - White MV If MD has 6 champs, I 'd say they win.
  16. Union County, St. X, Fern Creek, and Trinity are from Kentucky Mt. Carmel (not Chicago) from Illinois Mater Dei, North Posey, Memorial, New Albany, Avon, Franklin Community, Tell City, Providence, Sullivan, and Vincennes Lincoln are from Indiana I may have missed a team or two. Should be some good wrestling both days.
  17. MD won 32-12 Boots from MD lost a team point at the end of the match for something. 171 - Mann d. Boots MD -1-3 189 - Rosebrock d. Koester MD -1-6 215 - Robison d. Kercher MD -1-9 285 - VanWinkle MD d. Daughtery 2-9 103 - Appell MD d. Doud 5-9 112 - May MD p. Brown 11-9 119 - Schoeder MD d. Mann 14-9 125 - Henderson MD d. Doud 17-9 130 - E. Weinzapfel MD d. Thompson 20-9 135 - A. Weinzapfel MD d. D. Welch 23-9 140 - Sims MD d. C. Welch 26-9 145 - Zenthofer MD d. Richards 29-9 152 - Pettijohn d. King 29-12 160 - Easterling MD d. Weikel 32-12
