  1. The IHSAA rules are so messed up...So the State of Indiana adopts the "School Choice" program that says that basically a student can choose what school they go to...which then in turn "blurs" the lines, so once this is adopted, the IHSAA then puts into play new "recruiting rules" that say that a kid over the age of 10 who is "contacted" about a certain program is now considered being "recruited"??? So, how is "recruiting" determined? If a 10 year old, new to the area moves in and goes to one school, but then after being in that school for a year he is unhappy, he then goes to a camp over the summer, one that is run by another school, he meets the coach and really likes him and he tells the coach he wishes he went there and the coach says something as simple as "we'd love to have you here", the kid makes some new friends and decides he wants to go to the other school and transfers. Could the IHSAA then say because he was over 10 and had contact with the other school's coach that it could be considred recruting? I am very confused how this new rule is going to be enforced, especially with the School Choice Program?
  2. I am a Malloy fan - but Kelley has got some crazy courage. Gotta give the nod to the local - Kelley.
  3. I agree with most of these picks...but I give GS a real shot at 106, I'll take MD @ 132, never count out Schroeder @ 138, and with Wright back @ 285, I think he's got a real shot to win it...
  4. MD's Blake Jourdan will make some noise in the next few years, tons of talent and drive.
  5. Back in the 80's, MD had 13 Sectional Champs...I think that happened again in the early 2000's (but by that time there were 14 weight classes)...
  6. I thought this was one of the most competitive Holiday Classic's I have seen in recent memory. Great teams, great coaches, great fans! As a long-time Holiday Classic attendee I have to say it was great to have Sullivan back in the mix and the additions of New Pal and Bellville really added to the competition. I also enjoyed the use of Track Wrestling for the Classic this year. Smith/Red match was a great one, Blackwell impresses again, Ervin makes it look easy (he is so fun to watch, always looks so relaxed and in control), Pierre looked good the whole tourney as did Carr from UC, Parkinson controlled his own destiny and came out a champ - totally dominated his finals match, both Wagner and Zorniger looked good. @kywrestler - the MD community is well aware of that small Kentucky town and their high caliber wrestling program - we never count them out, this year was no exception. As for Ervin going for his 5th title next year - I hope it happens, it will be a 1st for the Classic and that kid deserves to make Classic history - he never ceases to impress both on and off the mats. Congrats to Union County on their win today and to Franklin Community for their 2nd place finish - only 5.5 points separated 3rd from 1st - wow- what a great week-end of wrestling! Good luck to all participants in the next few weeks and as they begin the post-season journey - I hope to see some of these names making noise at State!!!
  7. http://s202.trackwrestling.com/tw/predefinedtournaments/MainFrame.jsp?sport=wrestling&TIM=1356748422917&pageName=&ie=true&frameSize=500 Track Wrestling is up to date. St Xavier 70.0 8. Avon 55.5 9. Evansville Memorial 52.5 10. Trinity 50.0 11. Mt Vernon 24.0 11. New Albany 24.0 13. North Posey 20.0 14. Sullivan 19.0 15. Vincenness Lincoln 14.0 16. Tell City 4.0 Just a reminder that wrestling will begin at 10am on Saturday (not 8:30am) due to the weather.
  8. The Holiday Classic will be held @ MD on Friday, December 28 and Saturday, December 29. Start time on Friday is 11:00 am. Start time on Saturday is 8:30am.
  9. I've always thought that football and wrestling actually compliment each other very well. I think the discipline, drive and pure mental toughness you learn from wrestling can really be an asset in any other sport you might play. I'm curious many other schools around the state have or have had the same coach for both sports? I always suspected there would be quite a few, that if not the head coach, would be involved in the team in some way, it surprises me to hear that with so many multi-sport athletes these days the coaches of the different teams aren't more supportive of each other.
  10. This was an amazing story. What courage and heart - so inspiring.
  11. I have no idea about the money (but I think, from what I've understood from these discussions, it was the Team State Tourney Series as a whole from Team Regional to Team State - which used to include a Team Semi-State- that was losing money overall)...but I agree 100% with the enviornment - today was great watching Bellmont and MD facing each other once again, every dual meet Crown Point wrestled in (those were some exciting, tight matches)...and hats off to Perry Meridian - they had a great showing today and earned that top spot. I will definitely miss Team State and hope to see it one day return...but I'm looking forward to seeing what the new classed tourney has to offer.
  12. I'm not saying that it's wrong to have a moratorium week, or that other sports wouldn't benefit from some sort of competition during that week...in fact, my son has met several volleyball players when he's been competing in Disney, so I know wrestling isn't the only game in town that week. I'm just saying, if these families choose to go compete in Disney, and the official coaches remove themselves from the competition once the official moratorium week begins, I'm not sure what the problem is? Several families I know made the Disney Duals their vacation, many staying long after the competition had ended to go enjoy Disney World or the Beach. How are "club" teams affected by the moratorium week rules?
  13. I'm still confused on how the injury points are added-in. Are injuries only taken into effect pre-Sectional, or are there different multipliers/points based on when the inury occurs? Do underclassmen who are injured during sectionals (or the rest of the tournament) received any kind of points?
  14. Awesome job once again Broadcastsports!!
  15. Couldn't the coaches appeal to the IHSAA to clear participation in the Disney Duals since it doesn't actually occur during the official wrestling season? I understand what I believe to be the idea behind the moratorium week, but Disney is a great opportunity for our young wrestlers.

  17. I think that Perry looked very good up at State this year - an earlier thread asked who would win, MD 2003 or Perry 2012. In that post I stated that I'd like to see what Perry was going to do during the State tournament this year and then we could decide which team did better with what they had. I think, on numbers alone, it's clear that MD 2003 had a better showing at State with their team (like I've often stated, this was a very special team). That being said - this Perry team is very good, one of the best in the last 10 years to be sure, and I certainly enjoyed watching their wrestlers up at State. Great job Falcons.
  18. Penn/Cathedral seems to be the best match-up for an exciting first round.
  19. After gearing up for weeks in anticipation of the "main event" here are some of my thoughts on State.... Of course, being from the Evansville area, I was a little disappointed in how the Evansville Semi-State wrestlers did. There were some close matches, some blown calls, some poor wrestling, and some out and out butt kickings. I'm proud of all of our wrestlers from this area, just thought they'd do better. I don't know if it was jitters or what, but some of the wrestlers just didn't seem to be the same kids I've been watching this season. Secondly, I thought the officiating was poorly done. Very inconsistent and some very questionable calls throughout the tourney. Too many stalling calls...not enough stalling calls. Quick "falls" called...and then no calls when someone was obviously flat as a pancake. Kids being allowed to run from opponents or take their own sweet time to get back to the center...or even better, to continue blocking and pushing people out to try to get stalling calls against their opponent (when they weren't even attempting to wrestle). I know people are bashing Richey for not being able to keep his feelings in check, but quite honestly, I thought the officiating in that match was suspect, and it felt a little like the ref was singling him out when both wrestlers were pushing the line. Thirdly...can I get a HELL YEAH for the Hanover Central wrestlers ;D WOW. Micic and Petrov were so impressive. Petrov gets a nod for the MOST EXCITING finals match of the night. He was on fire throughout this whole tournament - he so deserved to be on top of that podium!!!! Mitch Sliga gets the nod for best pin of the tourney. Although that :31 second fall was impressive...pinning Berry (an awesome wrestler in his own right), in that manner in the finals was priceless, really showed off his strength and control - FANTASTIC!!!! Getting to see another wrestler enter the royal family of 4x champs was a highlight of the tourney...congrats to Jason - he gave us another impressive run of matches in his final year...this kid is going to do great things. With all the 4x'ers in the house, I would have loved to see them all together on the floor "inducting" Jason into the group ~ would have been really cool. I'd also like to give a shout out to Dane Maurer and his 3rd place finish. Finishing his Senior year at 44-1 after 2 years of sitting out...what a work ethic this young man has. Great finish - it was very special to get to see him and Blake together after his 3rd place finish - it's a great story. Met some great people from all over and I want to give a shout out to the awesome wrestling fans for making this a great week-end of wrestling!!! Spent a lot of time with some awesome people hailing from the Braves of Bellmont ~ cannot wait for Saturday....it's gonna be a LOUD first round!!!!
  20. Congrats to Abraham Hall. From what I heard from several of his fans, he was well-deserving, one of any number of outstanding seniors it could have gone to this year. Plus...I think he was like the first champ from Bremen in like 25 years....I think he earned his spot in school history!!!! What a way to end it. Congrats Abraham & good luck in all your future endeavors!!!
  21. Congrat to Jason...I too got teary-eyed when I saw the emotions from him on the top of the podium. That young man is a class act and he has given us four amazing years. He earned his rightful place in Indiana wrestling history and I can't wait to see what NW has in store for him!!! Good luck to this future All American...and hopefully NCAA champ!!!!
  22. My biggest disappointment was the officiating overall - I thought it was pretty poor throughout the day on Saturday - no consistency. With all the 4x's in the house on Saturday...it would have been cool if they had them on the floor and spotlighted them as they read their names, then had Jason Tsirtsis join them...wouldn't that have been cool?
