  1. RTC is cancelled for tomorrow night
  2. Danny , that sounds like a movie. Pretty cool. Hey can you call me when you get a free minute. Good luck in tournament.
  3. Can someone show me in an IHSAA meeting where it is stated that the team state tournament is over after this coming year. Not saying it's not, I just want to see it for clarity.
  4. PM will not have RTC this tuesday. We will resume next tuesday.
  5. EMD was dominant. Now, that is a dynasty. It was not that long ago.
  6. One of my first camps and lots of wisdom from this great wrestler and coach.
  7. Nick, I hope you guys can make it tonight to see Wissell. He is fresh off of competition trying to make the world team trials. One heck of an athlete.
  8. We will still be wrestling tuesday night at RTC. Many kids still training for central regionals, Nationals, and duals. Hope to continue to see big numbers. I am seeing lots of the kids do well that come to our RTC and we are happy to help in anyway we can. Lots of placewinners from Roncalli, Mooresville, Jireh, Arlington, Tech, Manual, Geenfield, PM and others from this weekend have been working out at the RTC. Keep up the good work.
  9. Jake, I am with Darrick on this. There are so many options right now and its making my head spin. I like what I see of your proposal but I need more time to look at it. I truly felt the system we had was sufficient other than not being classed. I know people felt that it did not include everyone and that you made the team tournament thru the individual tournament but I can honestly say that for my first four years at Perry we never once said this was not fair when we did not win our sectional. We just tried to figure out a way to get it done. It took a while but we did and now someone else has been on our heels trying to figure out how to get it done against us. But, with that being said, yes, I like it and yes PM would participate in this or something similar if it meant being IHSWCA Team State Champs. I am really confused by the IHSAA right now though. They are telling us one of the reasons to drop team state is that we went against the bylaws and gave a trophy away at Conseco that was not IHSAA sponsored but then they turn around and tell us to come up with our own tournament and call it IHSWCA state champs-is it against the bylaws or not?? Just throwing that out there.
  10. Last RTC before freestyle state- let's get some good groups and bang.
  11. Infowrestling, you bring up valid points, and no disrespect meant but I have to say the team state series did include everyone. All teams had a chance to win the sectional. Not that it was the best plan but it did include every single team in Indiana. Unfortunately for us at Perry, my first four years coaching here we were not good enough to win our sectonal therefore did not get to compete teamwise, beyond that point.
  12. I am sure we and all others will continue to coach at the best level that we can. I just dont understand logic sometimes. I dont understand or see what others see when it comes to the best interest of kids and its upsetting to me. We will have to move forward.
  13. AJ, I was only responding to someone saying that we should not base the criteria on a few studs because that does not get the best teams at this tournament. And, what I have posted has happened before-not exact-so dont ask for the year it happened. I could use a team from Johnson County this year as a pretty good example as to what I am saying. Thats all.
  14. I see a few replies where people are saying the points are skewed and we should not base it on this system due to one or two studs getting all the points and being better than 8 solid kids for example. Welcome to the "old scoring" system to determine your state champ team of the future. Team- 6th in the sectional, 4th in regionals, 3rd in semi state, STATE CHAMPS with only a few kids on the team.
  15. I must be really off on my knowledge of this sport. Sliga, N Moore...they are exceptions not the rule. All of your top level guys are good no matter what weight. All I know is my oldest son was pretty damn good. At the national level growing up he beat or battled with Dake, Mango, Jamie Clark, Villenauva(spelling?). He battled and beat Brandon Wright and Camden many times and also lost to all of these guys many times. He was a litttle guy till his jr and sr year. My sixth grade son is not as good but is lots bigger. In fact our goal is for him to come in as a 171 lber or bigger and I keep telling him that he has a chance(before he graduates) to do better than his older brother because the wrestling talent is not as deep at the upper weights. Have I been lying to him? I personally dont think so. Year after year we have program kids do a great job for us in upper weights who most people would have never thought they would accomplish much. I my opinion its not that hard for a kid, who wants to put in the time, to succeed up top. Numbers alone tell you that. Look at club tournaments going on. Numbers up top are not deep. Not many big kids doing much wrestling out of season as compared to little guys. And I must say this. Just because the 103 lbers are freshman does not make them bad wrestlers. Most of these guys that are good have been wrestling on the national scene for years. Pretty talented kids.
  16. I get it. I guess my question to you would be, is it going to now be more difficult even at a small school to fill 5 weight classes 170 and above. I hear our football coaches say all the time that we just don't have an abudance of big athletic kids walking around our school. And based upon tasseff 's 40 wins and cooper being state runner up at. 215 while only weighing 185, I would have to say that others schools don't have lots of stud athletes breaking down the wrestling room door to get in. We had a 180 lber playing line at a 5a school. I just dont see the logic in adding another weight class up top.
  17. Karl, I appreciate that you follow our team and think pretty highly of our kids but I will tell you that the upper weights, especially 189 has been one of our less competitive weights since Nate Moore's days. Year after year we have to work in the off season to convince somebody to take ownership of this weightclass. At no time was Bernard, Cooper, Tasseff and Richards on the same team together. Bernard has never went to PMHS. Cooper was the 215 state runner-up and weighed 185 this season(in fact Trey and Logan may have wrestled at 195 this year in the new system). Tasseff was a 160 lber last year at one point so he would not have fit into any of those new weights up top. In fact, it's great you mention Tasseff. He is a product of the team state as is Cooper. Tasseff never wrestled varsity in MS. He was a manager his freshman year. Last year he was 4th string at 160/171 but got in the line up due to team situations/injuries. He had no interest at all in his individual performance this year . He is involved in plays, clubs, school TV. He only wrestled for the team aspect and I can truly say that if there was no team state-he doesn't wrestle. He knew he was our best option and he did not want to let his teammates down. Cooper as well is a byproduct of team state development. He absolutely got beat up on week after week after week even up to and including his 9th grade and sophomore year. He was JV his junior year until almost January. I have no reason to fib. We have always had 60-80 kids on our team at the MS and HS yet still have trouble filling upperweights with depth at a 5A school. We are experiencing the same problem now for Disney duals and next season. Not being cocky but if we are having troubles I know others are. You can spin stats and data but the history of my room tells me all I need to know.
  18. Hey AJ, whats up buddy. you know how I feel about team state. Why are you opposed to it? I can not understand the reasoning. Give me something. I am listening. By the way, I was thinking tweak the Belmont super duals and you have the Team State not Traicoff. Had to put a plug in for our schedule. Sorry AJ:)
  19. Another ignorant wrestling decision. I know we are all just loaded with 200 lb studs.
  20. Y2, from what I understand, they were in favor or had no problem with an dual tournament that would be like a team invitational. I am not sure if I would or would not be interested in this due to it not being the state tournament, having to change schedules and losing the best tournament this state has ever had. I do want to ask you-what suggestion do you have? Can you come up with some sort of plan that will recognize the best TEAM in indiana? Again, I am not sure if I am a fan or not but I am respectful of the work that someone is getting ready to do to make a tournament that might bring to light the programs who put the most time in, build from the ground up and make their back up kid understand that his role may be more important than the role of your state champ.
