  1. I cant see North holding the number of people that a Semi-State to pull in over the years. North has nice facilities but it just isn't large enough for a four ma, all day, Half State Slugfest. A lot of us remember the Seymore High School Semi State. Huge Gym, Tons of Space, and Still outgrown. The place that has always stuck in my mind is I.U. and their Basketball Barn. Or what about Indiana State? Yes it's out of the way for most, but a larger venue all the same. I love having the Semi-State in Evansville and would hate to lose it, but as I am record stating - I am NOT a fan of the Ford Center primarily due to it's location in the town. "Let's take grandma to the South East Side of Evansville to see Timmy wrestle Saturday...In February...And let her push her walker 4 city blocks." said NO ONE EVER. Why the Ford Center was not built between Morgan Ave and Highway 66 , next to I-69, is a true mystery to most people in the area. But it is what it is. All said and done, North has their shot at a Regional. I agree it would have been nice to let them have a chance to run the Sectional first. But is it fair to take that from Central when tht is their one big event of the year? From a facilities stand point, I can understand the point of moving it. From the "political" point of view it's best left alone. But hey, why ask any of us? We only buy tickets every year...What do we know????
  2. As a life long Castle Faithful, I wish North all the luck in the world in hosting the Regional. It' is a ton of hard work and thankless work, but rewarding in its own ways. I will gladly give North a chance and I understand it' their frist cack at this so it will have bumps, but personally I go to see the wrestling and as long as there are mats and scoreboards I say let' wrestle!
  3. I have attached a listing of the teams, and who is listed as participating in each Sectional for the Dirty South Evansville Semi-State. Please feel free to post corrections or additions as I am eorking from some information I am not completely sure of. As for the rest of the state, maybe someone could put together a listing for their teams Semi-State so we can recognize the kids that have worked so hard all year. Dirty-South.xlsx
  4. Best of Luck to the North Husky faithful on hosting the Regionals. Sincerely. As for moving the Semi State...NOPE...for decades we have had to drive to Indy for everything from Football to concerts. It's only fair that the Center of the staters get to expirence God's Country instead of us having to make that drive two weekends in a row. See that's what people NEVER think about. The cost of travelling for the schools and kids to these events week in and week out. Avon, Brownsburgh, and others are very close to Banker's Life. Mater Dei, Castle and others have to make a drive twice is just plain unfair to the schools and to the fans. YES I know the South Easterners will cry about their plight. But something has got to give, and Evansville is still the third largest population center in the state. The Ford Center is the most suited facility in this half of the state outside of I.U. or possibly Indiana State (which would make NO SENSE). I remember the days of going to Seymour. GREAT Gym, but WAY to small for the numbers that we get, that was the justification for moving it many years ago. Finally..Reitz to move yet again...so they can go back to finishing 3rd in the Central Sectional again. I guess some people just can't be pleased with who is beating them year in and year out.
  5. Mater Dei is what it is...and Castle is what Mater Dei wants to be lol
  6. Because I AM a fan of what Castle has done not only for it's teams, but for the area's teams. You see it takes A LOT of planning, and volunteer work to pull off an event like a wrestling regional the likes of the Castle Regional. As I said, if you aren't a fan of the time, place, or event in general...feel free to not attend. Just leave a seat open for someone who enjoys high caliber wrestling. .
  7. Not sure North could seat as many fans as I saw at this years event. North has a really nice gym, but Castle has the space to pack the place. As for the concessions, It must be bad timing. Yes they run short of some items at times, but that's more of an issue with the numbers they pull in and not so much the fault of the VOLUNTEERS that run the stand. This year the place was full and people were all pretty well behaved. I see no reason to change the venue. As for not liking to drive to Castle, feel free not to...Imagine how we feel having to drive to Mater Dei to and the only gym left in the area built during the Teddy Roosevelt administration. Seats about 150 people and restrooms only a hike up Mt Everest away. You would think with all that money they would consider maybe updating the facilities once a century.
  8. I am not sure how...MD is not exactly buring up the mats this year in this weight class. MD would move to two, and place Memorial in the position of winning a familure Blood match.
  9. Fighting in school. Just rediculous. Apparently involved another former wrestler from a different team. Just REALLY not smart stuff.
  10. Sort of makes Browns Day MUCH easier. at 170.
  11. I hate to hear someone might lose a spot they have worked for. BUT...let that be a lesson to others. Sportsmanship does not stop at the mats edge.
  12. Anyone named Welch..C., D., or L. Long list of tough kids to come out of Warrick county.
  13. To me, it's sending the message that Little Jimmy or Johnny can't cut it with his peers. I put this up with the practice of holding a kid out for over half a year and letting them compete in the State Tourney level at years end. If a kid is REALLY hurt and not released until just before the sectional, I get it...But how often does that REALLY happen?
  14. I predict we will see 14 Champs from the Al Smith this year...
  15. Regional talk already...When will they ever learn? This regional ALWAYS has kids that begin to peak the weekend of Conference and come out of the Sectionals like a spring loaded mongoose.
  16. My prediction...Marion County stays in the center of the state.
  17. Union County vs Mater Dei may be worth the price of admission. Both are solid. Have to give the edge to Union County in the upper weights though.
  18. Not sure how the logic is flawed in this formula. Take the individuals potential to advance along the path in the state toruney and calculate it accordingly. Seems reasonable. Now..."SouthSideJimmy", give us your alturnative to this which resolves every sort coming... Hobart has a strong team. Castle has a Strong team. Last weekend produced some of the best duals I have seen in Castle's gym in a long time. Great early season fireworks for sure. Having a team drive the entire length of the state to face off with us is a huge sign of respect, and that should go both ways.
  19. The point is,, every time this subject is belched out...we hear nothing but whining and complaining abut how hard it is to beat those horrible "Big Schools". When in reality, it is no easier to fill a full roster in a school of 1500 kids than it is in a school of 500. If your logic actually bore out, Ben Davis, North Central, Lawrence North, and schools of that size would blow through every state tourney unchallenged base on raw numbers in the talent pool...Oddly enough the schools that traditionally are the power players in out sport ARE the smaller schools by population... Wrestling at it's core is NOT about the numbers...it's about the individuals...and the efforts of those individuals.
  20. How about this...we set up 350 classes...Everyone is State Champ....Everyone Gets a Trophy... Why take the chance on someone getting their feelings hurt? We could just give out the awards in November....
  21. So let me see...I just watched Mater Dei and Danville stand toe to to with Avon and other "Large School" and earn their shots at the State Tourney....But I am supposed to believe we need to divide these poor down trodden programs into their own subsections to give them a fair shot... ReallY?????????
  22. Put them in a pit and let them fight it out
  23. Great tourney today... Things went just about to the predictions and great things begin next weekend!!!
