  1. If there's going to expand state it should be in the same format and just add the amount of qualifiers from semi-state. There shouldn't be any judgement on who makes state, state qualifiers should be determined by wrestling not people guessing who the better wrestlers is. Having to go through different quality of routes to make it to the finals is part of sports. look at professionals sports in the NFL teams that win their divisions get high seeds then wildcard teams with better records... some teams make the offs because their conference isn't as good.
  2. The Email says EMD, Castle, BS, Jeff, and Avon
  3. Tribbie from Lawrenceburg at 152 isn't wrestling this year.
  4. Just received an e-mail that they're looking for a 6th team.
  5. It will be the new 14 weight Classes. I believe some states has already started using them
  6. Sending Prayers from the Batesville Wrestling family
  7. Wesley English from merriville won state in 05 then didn't wrestle 06.
  8. Parris didn't win those tournaments cause he didn't wrestle them... he also barely wrestled free style until after his senior year. Also his sophomore year he won state in a loaded weight class. Unfortunately I've never seen Carroll wrestle outside of high light videos so I'm not the best judge but I don't think you can base it off of accomplishments.
  9. On the topic of using a college facility, when I was in college one year we hosted a college dual but opened with a High School dual. This was in Southern Kentucky at the University of the Cumblands. We only did it once for some reason. That could be something that some of the colleges in Indiana could do with a local High School.

  12. Also Didn't include 2 time state champ Cody Philips. I'd also ad the likes of Conner Mullins and Tyler Willis both were 4x placers and runner-ups at some point.
  13. As far as Semi-state qualifier, it depends on the sectional and regional you feed into. Not all sectionals and regionals are created equally there for a really good athlete with experience can make it to semi-state with out off season wrestling if they're in the right regional. Now those athletes are mostly multiple sport athletes and probably put in the work in the weight room, but i've seen a lot of semi-state qualifiers that don't wrestle in the off season. I've also seen wrestlers wrestle all year round and not make semi-state because of the regional they're on as well as team. Making varsity it depends on the team some teams you make varsity just for being on the team while others you might have to beat out multiple teammates. I would say its rare to make state without wrestling in the off season. To win state I would say its a must with a few exceptions.
  14. two anticipated matches that never happened in IHSAA season that comes to mine that could have happened is Cody Phillips vs Brenden Campbell and Phillips vs Kyle Ayersman.
  15. Is there a time frame or date in which everything will be set? Even if there's hardly any changes it would be nice to know.
  16. Restructuring wouldn't just benefit Indy schools though. Think of all the small school or sectionals/regionals that would benefit from not being matched up with all the powerhouses. Look at Richmond regional being matched up with NM, PH, PM regionals all with Indy area schools. Moving just one Regional from that semi state would help the schools in the Richmond regional. Or maybe just move some sectionals to even out some regionals.
  17. If they were to add a boys sport would it have to be a winter sport?
  18. as for #4 I believe as long as you're not dropping a weight class or below your minimum weight it should count as a qualifying weigh-in. ex if you enter the first weigh-in at 119.9 and your minimum weight is 112.5 you next weigh-in just needs to be over 113 to count.... you'll still have to wait until your original plan lets you get under 113 to go 113 but all your weigh-ins at 120 should count. i think we're doing more harm when trying to make kids gain a pound or 2 when they're naturally losing weight. Unfortunately the current system doesn't account for natural weight fluctuation. If some one is wrestling 182 and their weight goes from 180 to 176 to 179 to 175 they're going to have a hard time getting qualifying weigh-ins even though they aren't trying to drop to the next weight class.
  19. I've always wonder if it would be possible to split the semi-states east north west and south and distributed the indy area schools between those 4 semi-states as needed and use a more central location for each semi-state New Castle could host the east and maybe use Bloomington host the south. West you could use north montgomery or the Lafayette area. I'm not sure about the north. Now I understand finding locations with big enough gyms could be an issue and I'm sure IHSAA don't want to make that drastic of changes but I feel this could help cut travel and even the 4 semi-states out.
  20. Not to mention using an odd number to prevent ties could cause a drop to13 weight classes instead of an increase to 15.
  21. Last I saw the numbers on a national level 285 was one of the higher weights forfeited. My question would be, would adding a weight class between 215(with the new weight classes) and 285 increase the forfeits at 285? I know my school (2a) has only had 3 wrestlers over 215 in the last 10 years I've been coaching each only wrestling 1 year... one was a senior my first year. A lot of that is the school. Even the football team struggles to get players over 220. I would only be in favor of adding a weight between if that meant having 15 weight classes which doesn't seem like the NFHS is in favor of doing. I wouldn't want to add a weight class when there's isn't a lot of wresters and take it away from a weight class where there is a lot. For the record I would be ok with 15 weight class and adding a bigger weight but I don't think that is going to happen until there is a huge participation increase.
