  1. Indiana (ISWA) does not limit the number of wrestlers that may participate in the USAW Folkstyle Nationals. USA Wrestling does place limits on the total number of participants for the event, as follows; Kids and Veterans will be capped at 1500 wrestlers, while, Cadets and Juniors will be capped at 1300 wrestlers. The ISWA takes a “Team” of Cadet & Junior wrestlers who simply sign-up to be a team member during the specified period and who then participate in the ISWA state. Any and all wrestlers are welcome and encouraged to participate in the USAW Folkstyle Nationals. Many clubs; i.e. Bloomington South, Columbus East, Perry Meridian, Penn, etc., take their own “teams” of wrestlers and many other wrestlers travel and compete independently. However, they are simply required to participate in the ISWA state in order to “qualify” for participation in the nationals. If a wrestler is not able to participate at state due to extreme circumstances they may petition the ISWA for a waiver and may be permitted to participate at nationals. Each petition is evaluated and ruled upon independently and supporting proof may be required. The ISWA is the USA Wrestling sanctioned organization within the state of Indiana. In an effort to promote the organization within the state it is not unreasonable to expect a wrestler to simply participate in their own state tournament in order to progress to the national level of the parent organization. [move]FYI[/move] PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING: 1. Registration for this event opened Tuesday, January 1st at 12:00 PM Noon Eastern Time. Sign up early to guarantee your spot in the event. We already have wrestlers registered from the following states: Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin. 2. USA Wrestling does not charge for adjusting weight classes after you register. You are free to adjust your weight class at any time, even at weigh-ins. 3. All athletes and coaches must be members of USA Wrestling for this event. 4. Kids and Veterans will be capped at 1500 wrestlers. 5. Cadets and Juniors will be capped at 1300 wrestlers. 6. All wrestlers (except veterans) in Indiana and New Jersey must qualify through their state. Kids and Cadets in Iowa and Minnesota must qualify through their state. 7. In order to purchase a coaches pass and gain access to the floor, all coaches must have a current USA Wrestling Coaches Membership, which includes a background check through www.usawmembership.com. In addition to membership, all coaches for schoolboy and younger must be a minimum copper certified, and cadet and junior coaches must be a minimum bronze certified. No exceptions! 8. If registration fills up, please email ryan@310mktg.com to put your name on a waiting list. 2. I heard from a very reliable source that there is going to be an attempt to display the Trackwrestling Dashboard on the overhead screens and that running team scores would be streaming on the upper message boards at each end of the arena. Hopefully this comes to fruition! I guess we'll have to wait and see...
  3. Danville had 7 seniors & 7 underclassmen starting the tournament. The still have 5 seniors alive who will earn replacement value based on their finish. They also have 4 underclassmen alive & 1 alternate at this point.
  4. Weigh-ins actually take place in the Gymnastics room on the east side of the main gym at entry level. Weight classes will be called to report to weigh-ins. Each wrestler at each weight is expected to report to weigh-ins when their class is called regardless if they have a first round match or not.
  5. Everyone, Remember and be prepared to adhere to the weigh-in procedures. Weight class is declared during registration on Trackwrestling. Wrestlers must weigh-in ready to wrestle in uniform (shoes & singlet), minus headgear and proceed directly to their assigned mat following weigh-ins prepared to wrestle immediately. There will be a 2-pound allowance given at the scale to account for the uniform weight. (Please see complete Registration and Weigh-in Procedures and FAQ’s linked here.) Best wishes to all wrestlers statewide this weekend!!! http://www.ihswca.com/MS_State_Reg_Weigh_Procedure.htm
  6. Sad news... what a great guy!!!
  7. He's been tied up in court the past few years fighting Eminent Domain in regard to I-69. He is all that stands between the current completion point (Crane) and Indianapolis. :
  8. The thanks should go to the core group of teams involved here that insisted that the event be continued regardless of venue and/or number of teams involved. Just a little FYI, 7 of the 8 schools participating this Saturday feed into programs that are currently ranked in the IndianaMat.com Team Top 20 based on dual meet results. Events like this give those up and coming wrestlers within those programs valuable experience in a big time dual meet environment such as they will be a part of as members of these tradition rich high school programs. Best wishes to every team and wrestler; high school, middle school, elementary or otherwise competing this weekend and the remainder of their respective season. 1. Perry Meridian 2. 9. I'm sure what they are asking for is the schools' entry lists; which are due into the IHSAA today, January 15th. They are probably just wanting to input wrestler data; name, grade, etc., in order to expidite the process following the completion of the seeding meeting which is to be held next Monday. Summary; Entry list due to IHSAA today, Entry list requested to be forwarded to the Trackwrestling coordinator by Thursday, Seeding Meeting (not entry list) to be held next Monday.
  10. Franklin Community Perry Meridian Evansville Mater Dei Yorktown Belmont Center Grove New Palestine (Doe Creek) Mishawaka (John Young) How’s this for a Middle School line up? Historically this event has been held in Bloomington, beginning in the mid -90’s, however; due to facility and administrative issues concerning the Bloomington middle schools the event was on the verge of being cancelled this year, but, Franklin Community stepped up to host. The Bloomington middle schools chose not to participate, again, due to administrative issues and concerns. Evansville Reitz withdrew late last week amid the uncertainty of the event. So, the once 10-team dual was reduced to seven, until Mishawaka excitedly accepted an invitation for an early season test. Wrestling will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Franklin Community Middle School. 11. Most middle school events I've attended and/or worked have all adheared to the scratch weight. With the exceptions of the typical weather cancellations allowing for the 1-2 lb. allowance. But the 2 lb. growth allowance that is given for high school is rarely if ever given in middle school. However, keep in mind, there is no governing body for middle school/junior high, so, it's house rules in many situations. Advance communication and concensual agreement are vital when implimenting such actions. Hope you find this helpful.
  12. You will soon find that there are a number of patrolmen on this board, both, official and non official. As well as, a large number of perpetrators. You'll also find that there is a fair amount of profiling aimed at certain cliques, opinions types or mind sets. It can be really entertaining at times, other times, not so much. Enjoy the site!!!
  13. It's called recovery! A wrestler may not have been able to recover from the effects of a slam within the 2-minute recovery time period but was able to recover during the 45+minutes between matches. Regardless a slam shall be called immediatley and it is up to the injured wrestler and his coach to determine if it is in his best interest to continue at the conclusion of recovery time during that match and continue to evaluate whether it is in the best interest of the wrestler to continue to compete in the event following that injury or the decision may rest with the designated appropriate health care professional if a potential concussion is involved.
  14. I say lets just wrestle! What it all comes down to is experience and achievement. Competition on any level provides the experience needed to improve; which, will enable advancement toward the achievement of a positive successful experience during the time an individual is involved in the sport. In the end only 16 wrestlers will be competing in each weight class for a state championship and the IHSAA guarantees that only one wrestler will represent any one school at a weight class. So, everyone is afforded the same opportunity to achieve that level of success, and; if it is true about the wrestleback situation, that opportunity just became greater. However, it is within the control of the coaches to build their respective program to the best of their ability. Some have better situations than others. Some have built the programs themselves, some have inherited solid programs, and some just simply benefit from school size and/or location. Not all things are equal, but, the opportunity is and in most cases success and structure of a program rests with the commitment and dedication of the coaches in adapting to, utilizing and taking advantage of the environment of the community to which they belong. Those who are able to do those things deserve the success that they breed and the respect of those who care about the sport.
  15. I think what your son is doing is admirable and I applaud him for wanting to stay involved in our sport and his commitment to the military. Perhaps he could?ve been a little proactive and approached his former coaches previously and explained his intentions, while, reasoning his decision and tactic. I?m sure that they would?ve respected that and appreciated his assessed choice. Not that they didn?t anyway, but, it may have just caught them off guard as much as anything and that may well have created an uncomfortable environment. I wish your son well in his coaching endeavors, as well as; health, safety, strength and fortitude toward a successful Marine career! Jim Littlejohn Disabled Veteran US Navy
  16. Congratulations Zach! Say hello to the Queen for me...
  17. Songer was correctly identified as being from Jasper during the scoring process.
  18. The IHSAA has in its by-laws a rule that prohibits school-owned uniforms from being worn in non-school contests. Again, this is an IHSAA By-law/Rule. The IHSAA recommends that Middle Schools follow and abide by the same rules and guidelines, but; there is no actual governing body for Middle Schools, so, it is up to each school system, as to, which rules and guidelines they will recognize and enforce. I'd recommend that you consult your school administration to determine if there is, in fact, a conflict or potential problem within your program. As for the IHSWCA Middle School State Championships event, this is not anything that we as officials or event administrators can be expected to enforce or be concerned with, in that, we have no idea what each Middle School's ruling would be; nor, if a siglet/uniform would be school owened. http://www.ihsaa.org/dnn/portals/0/Flip%20Book/By-Laws_2/index.html Rule 15 ? Participation (Page 46) 15-2.1 Individual Sports (Cross Country, Golf, Gymnastics, Swimming, Tennis, Track, Wrestling)? ? d. Member schools may not provide school-owned uniforms (jerseys, shirts, shorts, pants, singlets, or swimsuits, etc.) worn by the student in non-school contests.

  20. My sincerest condolences. Coach Harper and his family will be in our thoughts and prayers. God speed!
  21. Some of the toughest middle school wrestling you'll see anywhere across the state. Each, middle school's, high school team is currently ranked in the top 20 and usually are year in and year out. I believe this event prepares the middle school kids for what to expect at the next level in the way of competition and environment. The finals and many match-ups during this event usually have all the intensity and excitement of a high school varsity dual. Over half of the participating schools' high school coaches attend this event each year. Mater Dei used to dominate this event up until recently. With the removal and addition of a few teams and expanding it to 10 teams, although only 8 made it this year, the event has become all the more competitive with other teams winning the past few years. But, Mater Dei was back with a vengeance this year. Those kids were as fundamental, patient, and technical as any group of middle schoolers I've ever seen and beat a very good group of Perry Meridian wrestlers in the finals, who had to beat Yorktown in a brutal battle during pool competition to make the finals.
