  1. Just a reminder to request info by Friday of this week. Send an e-mail to the address in the ISWA book and include: 1. your club name 2. your name 3. your cell number And I'll e-mail you the forms. Regards, formerwrestler
  2. As far as I am concerned....If a parent chooses to bypass a traditional educational experience for their child and homeschool, then they should also understand that their children are also not able to participate in extra-curricular activities for the school. My kids attended a catholic school from k-5 before transferring to the public school system. We had parents in the Catholic school also elect to homeschool. Some because they they did not think the dress code was "appropriate", others because the dress code was too "restrictive". Some parents did not feel there was enough emphasis on Catholic education, while others thought it was too focused on Catholic teachings. A few of the parents had no formal training in education and one even held a full time job while "homeschooling" their children. Someone above made in insightful comment about the kid who actually attends the school being "behind" the homeschooler in the roster. Man talk about opening a can of worms with that one. It's hard to please everyone! But if you choose to homeschool...tough luck in my opinion. formerwrestler
  3. The Tipton Wrestling community wishes your son the best of luck and a speedy recovery. Got to see him wrestle at Pendleton Heights for the regional and was impressed with him. formerwrestler
  4. The Tipton Beginners Folkstyle tourney is scheduled for Sunday March 6 this year. Please request off-site weigh-in documents and info prior to Friday, Feb. 25, 2011. Forms are required to be sent in by Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011. We will limit the number of wrestlers in this tourney. formerwrestler
  5. The big boys should be pretty interesting to watch at HH. Both returning 2010 sectional champs for 215 & hwt are both in 215 this year. Both Smitherman and Warner have improved from last year. Also Prohl from PH 285lb. runner up in 2010 is 0-0 and seeded #5 this year at hwt. He could definitely be a bracket buster. Also looking forward to watching the smaller guys battle it out. Todd, Walker, Pyke, Johnson , and others. Should be a good day of wrestling. Good luck to all.
  6. Just a quick note to Coach Mendoza and his wrestlers, on behalf of the Tipton wrestling program. Yes! We were very disappointed in not being able to wrestle your team for our senior night this evening. We put forth a great deal of effort, in bad weather, last year getting to your gym to be sure your seniors were honored for their dedication to this great sport. We would have expected a little more effort from your administration for our team this year. We understand that this decision was not made by your coaching staff or team and have no hard feelings toward you and your kids. I am very displeased with your Athletic Director for this situation. As wrestlers do, we adjusted and held an intra-squad match and recognized our seniors in front of our fans. Obviously, we would have much rather competed against the Titans in our gym, in a true dual match. Please do not do anything that will limit your ability to continue coaching the Titan program. I know you did everything in your power to make this match happen, but it was beyond your control. We wish you the best of luck for the balance of the season. Thanks for your effort this evening. Cal Warner
  7. "Wrestling mats at North Central are routinely sanitized after all practices and all meets, which is the standard procedure. Further, athletic trainers carefully monitor all student athletes, and recommend medical care when appropriate." Maybe I'm missing something here, but shouldn't the mats be "routinely sanitized" BEFORE all practices & meets?
  8. Done this morning. Good luck and thanks to all officials!
  9. Isn't there supposed to be a form for "non-contageous" skin conditions like Eczema? I have a wrestler that has it on his inner elbow, and some weeks it looks worse than others based on various factors, but I'd hate for him to be unable to wrestle, because his current "7 day form" is not up to date? Thanks, formerwrestler
  10. Matt King from Tipton in the 90's. I used to wrestle with Ezra Toomer at Muncie Northside back in the day. Man he was pretty slick. Bud Palmer, Sr. and Jim Metzler were the club coaches back then. Have not thought of him for some time. formerwrestler
  11. The Tipton Wrestling Community would also like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the Wise family and the Pendleton Wrestling Club. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. formerwrestler (aka Cal Warner)
  12. Has been an assistant wrestling coach at Tri-Central for the last few years. Hope he does well. formerwrestler
  13. Just a quick "Thank You!" to the Indian Creek Wrestling community for putting on their first Freestyle tourney on Saturday. They were very well organized and made great efforts to get everyone matches on the day. Hope you all have a better turnout next year! formerwrestler
  14. Uhhhh, We do this for the kids right? I see no problem with waiting for a coach to be at matside. I have two son's and have coached our club for many years. I want to be at matside for MY kids and the other wrestlers as well. I vote to take a little extra time to allow ALL kids to have a coach in their corner. Additionally, lets remember that often times the kids coaches are actually helping out at the tourney by doing table help, pairings, concessions, and officiating. I would be very upset if I were helping out at a tourney and the table at my son's match would not wait for me to finish up my volunteer work before my son's hit the mat. Just my $.02 formerwrestler
  15. Registration for this tournament is now closed. Thanks to all the clubs that are participating this year. We look forward to a good day of wrestling. formerwrestler
  16. To those coming to Tipton... If you have any used wrestling equipment that no longer fits, bring it along. We may be interested in purchasing it from you. We are always looking for youth wrestling equipment to offset the cost of our new wrestling families coming into the program. Bring your old singlets, shoes, & headgear and we can make a deal. formerwrestler
  17. Also Tipton Beginners is still accepting additional wrestlers for the March 7 tourney. Hit Center Grove on 2/28, then the next weekend at Tipton. E-mail for info. formerwrestler
  18. Agreed. Congrats Montrail and TC Wrestling! The whole county was pulling for you. Great kid and wrestler. It's been fun watching you improve. Can hardly wait to see you next year! formerwrestler

  20. Just want to clarify.... There are no weigh-ins or Registration at Tipton. The entire tournement is off-site weigh-in. Please send an e-mail to cwarner1@sbcglobal.net for offsite registration and forms. Please provide us with your name, club affiliation, and phone number to receive the offsite weigh-in registration forms. You will weigh-in your wrestlers on your club or school scale and fax the info to us by Wednesday, March 3, 2010 to register for our tourney. Please be sure to give exact weight of the wrestlers as we pool the wrestlers in groups of 4. Most pools end up being much closer in weight than standard weight classes. Please e-mail with any questions.
  21. Two weeks away. Please e-mail me for info & forms. formerwrestler
  22. I agree. Congrats to Willis. Great kid and competitor. I'm sure he didn't want to be injured by any action. He was obviously still in pain during his finals match, but he kept going and made it through the entire 6 minutes. Didn't look to me like he tanked the match. I was not impressed with Vlahos refusal to shake hands after his loss, and it appeared to me he was taunting Willis while on the award stand and while walking from the award stand toward the other end of the floor. Win like a champion and lose like one.
  23. I agree. What is a coach supposed to do if the kid looses too much weight in a week? The coach usually only spends 1.5-2 hours per day with the wrestlers, but he is supposed to ensure every kid only looses 1.5% max per week? That is the plan, but the coach is not with the kids 24 hours a day.
