  1. He wrestles a physical style, he's got a good gastank, he's fared reasonably well against some of the nation's best--I think his skill set is a good one for Big 10 wrestling. I think he'll make a good sized collegiate 125 eventually also. Eppert's going to need to fill out a decent amount to compete in the brutal Big 10.
  2. He was in a tough weight class last year too. He's capable of placing, but you're right, that's a brutal semi-state for him. He'll have to beat out one of the following just to advance to state: Spencer, Grey, Odom and Cook.
  3. Well deserved for Hump and I believe he could actually win it all this year. He seemed to fade in certain matches before this year, but his fitness is no longer a weakness, it seems. He is deadly on his feet. I think he's officially undefeated even though he lost to Joe Baker of Navy this year.
  4. I think he'll get there eventually, but he's not on Ettelson's level yet. He is a great wrestler, but he's in a tough weight class and he'll take some lumps before he gets where he want to be.
  5. He's been wrestling at a consistently high level this year. He came on strong last season, but he wasn't the same wrestler he is this year. I'm sure cutting less weight makes him feel stronger and more fit.
  6. Thanks a bunch. I agree with AJ that Karl is putting out some great stuff, too. I always knew Joe could write, so it's not surprising that his Toe To Joes are very good. All of the contributors here, including the posters, do a fantastic job. Hopefully, we can all keep it up. This is my favorite sports time of the year, as the postseason nears.
  7. Thanks for years of providing a place for information and even entertainment. I will always appreciate what you have done.
  8. Thanks for the correction. I will always welcome any corrections to anything I write. I didn't know much about Trine before I researched that article. What they've done there is pretty darned impressive and it's apparent they are building something special in Angola. Sorry to Coach Callahan and Dale Hummel for the mixup.
  9. I'll be there and I'll do a play by play. This is definitely one of the biggest duals in the state and easily the most anticipated in central Indiana. There are no holes or gimmes in either of these lineups and each is deep enough to juggle weight classes to get an edge.
  10. http://www.indystar.com/article/20090110/LOCAL04/901100352/1169/SPORTS0212 Steve Brooks, Indianapolis Star Illness has limited his competition, but his perfect record is intact Despite being undefeated, it hasn't been the easiest wrestling season for Indian Creek's Ethan Raley. At a time when most wrestlers have from 15 to 20 matches under their belts, Raley has just eight. The reigning 103-pound state champ -- now 41-0 in his high school career -- missed two weekend tournaments with what he called the flu. "It was real tough watching my teammates wrestle and not getting to," Raley said, "but it hasn't really affected me. I feel better now. I don't feel like I'm out of shape or behind anyone else or anything." ....
  11. http://www.indystar.com/article/20090110/LOCAL1802/901100336/1169/SPORTS0212 Steve Brooks, Indianapolis Star North Central's Ethan Cuevas went into the Marion County Tournament in December as the top-seeded heavyweight, but the unranked wrestler didn't seem to be a clear-cut favorite. After pinning three of four county opponents and posting an impressive performance in the Spartan Classic in Connersville over the holiday break, Cuevas rose to No. 13 in the indianamat.com individual rankings. He brings a 22-1 record into today's eight-team North Central Invitational. Panthers coach Lou Silverman considers Cuevas' county tournament a springboard into the second half of the season. "He's always been confident in his talent, and I don't think I've ever had any kid who works as hard as Ethan does," Silverman said, "but I think the county was definitely a big confidence boost for him." .....
  12. http://www.indystar.com/article/20090110/LOCAL1801/901100343/1169/SPORTS0212 Steve Brooks, Indianapolis Star If Perry Meridian High School's wrestling team can stay undefeated through the next five days, the Falcons will have earned it. The third-ranked Falcons will compete in the Bellmont Super Duals today. They'll face, among other teams, top-ranked Mishawaka, No. 6 Bellmont, No. 16 Penn and Bloomington South. It doesn't get any easier Wednesday, when the Falcons travel to Cathedral to face the fifth-ranked Irish. Perry Meridian coach Jim Tonte likes the challenge but said the Cathedral match could have come at a better time. .......
  13. http://www.indystar.com/article/20090110/LOCAL0101/901100358/1169/SPORTS0212 Mark Ambrogi, Indianapolis Star Carmel High School senior wrestler Will Mascaro has not only been perfect but dominating. Mascaro has a 21-0 mark in the 135- and 140-pound classes. "A majority of his wins have been by pins," said coach John Kopnisky. Mascaro competes primarily at 135 but subbed at 140 a few times for a sick teammate. ......
  14. The year after he was champ, Jon Lloyd got boatraced (22-14) on Friday night by a lesser known freshman named Brennan Cosgrove.
  15. I think it depends on what criteria makes someone the 'best to never make it to state'. I'm a little skeptical that any of these other discussed wrestlers were above-average D1 wrestlers who started at a Big 10 school and beat ranked D1 wrestlers.
  16. I hope the One Man Gang pays a visit to this site. He's a cool guy.
  17. Kelly also beat Maryland's highly regarded Alex Krom. I wonder if Andrae is nervous about his spot. He has really struggled this season.
  18. RRRRRIIIIIICCOOOOOO TALAMANTES!!!!!!!! That announcer is great.

  20. Nick Walpole wins his first wrestleback match by fall over Derek Coorough of Iowa. Coorough was a 2X state champ in his HS career in Wisconsin. Walpole faces Old Dominion's Joey Metzler next. Matt Coughlin wins by fall over Columbia's Derek Sickles. Coughlin will face 3rd seed Michael Chandler of Missouri next, with a spot in the semis at stake. Brian Deutsch rebounded from his close loss to Chandler by beating Nebraska-Kearney's Cole Garcia by a 5-2 margin. Deutsch will face Gabe Burak of Penn next. Andrew Howe majors 12-4 Justin Brandel of Eastern Michigan. Howe faces top seed Moza Fay of N. Iowa. Jason Martin wins his first wrestlebacks match by beating Neil Posmer of WWC 8-7. Martin faces Maryland's Brian Letters next. Paul Young quickly pins (41 seconds) Oregon State's Dan Brascetta. He'll face Northwestern's Dom Marella next. Ben Hoover lost his 2nd match and is done. He lost 8-3 to Marella. Andrew Szymborski loses his 2nd match to Derek Coffee of Old Dominion by a 14-7 count. Matt Powless won his opener 8-2 over Vince Bordi of SF St. Powless will face 4th seed Hudson Taylor of Maryland next. Ethan Winel dropped his first match 8-3 to Kyle Simonson of Iowa St. Justin Kuhn lost to Eric Simaz of C. Michigan 6-2. Chris Kasten won his first match, a 5-2 decision over MSU's Steve Andrus. Kasten will face 5th seed Zach Shaeffer of Pitt next.
  21. Has anyone listed just the seeds for each weight class? The brackets aren't labeled with seeds and I'm not very bright.
