  1. I don't think there is a single reason why these schools are successful. Almost everything said on this topic is on point, academies, time, etc. all contribute to the overall success of a program. I do think that one other factor is money. I don't know much about Brownsburg or Center Grove, but I do know that CP pours a lot of money into their wrestling program. Be it either by the Club or by the parents of the wrestlers. Not saying that money is a cure all or that you have to be wealthy to win a state championship, but it sure does help. Those academies, summer wrestling, etc are not free.
  2. Oh yeah I forgot about the PA system. They need to get that fixed. Can not understand why you have an awesome video display (which probably cost a small fortune) and poor PA system. I can understand the geographic location issue, but the good thing is that southern part of the semi-state is on eastern time and gain an hour (i think that is the way it works). If you leave Lafayette at 7:00 it is actually 6:00 in EC. That helps. Yes you can find a lot of great Taco places within a few minutes of the gym.
  3. I believe the EC gym is the 2nd largest or 3rd largest gym in the state and/or country. Not sure you could find a better place to hold an Indiana high school semi-state. Those of us that have been around a while remember the Merrillville days. Ran well but that first two rounds were tough. If you didn't get there an hour early you were not getting a seat. Sure maybe they could use more training on how to control the crowd. But the size and space of that gym are impressive. Hopefully, EC staff are on here and listen to you and others.
  4. What Part of this: It was odd hearing all the talk about Crown Point. I know when you are on top everyone wants to see you fail but man people where just outright mean when it came to CP. Maybe this will fuel their fire even more. Not going to lie, don't really like CP (not so much their fans or wrestlers but more their coaches) but love what their team is about to accomplish. Means I have this: "It appears you have some pretty strong feelings against the CP wrestling community." In fact I said "love what their team is about to accomplish." If you are talking about this sentence "Not going to lie, don't really like CP (not so much their fans or wrestlers but more their coaches)" Yeah the conduct of their coaches annoys me a bit. I saw the, I believe, head coach complain about a kid not getting 2 for a questionable call out of bounds when the kid was winning 12-0. Also, lot of crying about where they could stand. Now these things I witnessed firsthand and can say, 'I don't really like CP (Coaches). But I don't in any other way have some pretty strong feelings against the CP wrestling community. Man people really like to jump from A to Z real quick. Good luck CP. I'll be rooting for your wrestling community.
  5. Yeah that turkey is something else, but it works. It was odd hearing all the talk about Crown Point. I know when you are on top everyone wants to see you fail but man people where just outright mean when it came to CP. Maybe this will fuel their fire even more. Not going to lie, don't really like CP (not so much their fans or wrestlers but more their coaches) but love what their team is about to accomplish. Hobart crowd was loud. But you got to love the support that team get. And yes they were a bit obnoxious. Yes, please EC get a new PA system.
  6. Crown point - wow what a team. Imagine if they were at full strength. Just on a different level. Merrillville - great job. Even with the worst draws of the tournament (maybe Lowell had worst), managed to get 5 to State. Year in year out they get kids to state that no one thought would be there. Mishawaka - very good team. 132 lber is very good. Well coached. Overall - some awesome wrestling. Tournament was well ran, no problems, that I saw. Can see 6 or 7 state champs from EC easily. On a good day 8.
  7. I love your support and optimism for Hobart. Enjoy watching you wrestle, keep working hard good things will come.
  8. 106 - Woods, Portage 113 - Aubin, Hobart 120 - Maldonado, Merrillville 126 - Christion, Merrillville 132 - Maldonado, Merrillville 138 - Bohn, Munster 145 - Wible, Hobart 152 - Pellot, Merrillville 160 - Crisp, Merrillville 170 - Costello, Hobart 182 - Cervantes, Griffith 195 - Veal, Merrillville 220 - Solano, Morton HWT - McNutt, Highland Merrillville wins team race with Hobart runner-up.
  9. Buddy, I don't care (that much). I was asking as a big fan of his and his family. Obviously I know he is a great kid and has an awesome family. I will not comment further as I have found out the reason. I respect him and even respect his family more. But please don't be calling me buddy I don't even know you therefore I am not your buddy. Best of luck Hawkins family and I only wish the best for Landon. Hope I get to see him wrestle soon.
  10. I will go back and listen. But these responses are a little strange. Maybe it is just me. I just wanted to know why. A simple non of your business would have done the job. But go and listen to indianamat broadcast makes it seem like there might be more to this. Guess what now I'm curious. Will do more investigating than I wanted to.... Stay tune...
  11. Just want to know. I personally thought he could have been a four timer...
  12. Wow. CP has nine returning state placers (5 of which wrestled under the lights) and then add Hawkins (my guess is he's top 2 at any weight) and you have 10 state placers. Can not wait to see what happens at State this year. They will set a new scoring record.
  13. Completely understand. Big when you have a back up to a senior that maybe lost to him by 1-2 points in wrestle-offs. Or you have a stud freshmen coming in. I think the people that are hurt or asking about the voting process (not me at all, just wrote a comment) need to have more information about these type of things (Backups and in coming freshmen) to feel that the process is working.
  14. Am I missing something here. Why have this complicated points system that only a CPA could understand and then vote on the teams? Why wouldn't the teams with the most points be offered the spot first? Yes please explain...
  15. Didn't this already happen: Crown Point vs Brownsburg. With Crown Point winning. I guess maybe we are still trying to figure out how to beat Crown Point. Not going to happen for a few years.
  16. There is no way State finals could be held on the same weekend as the NBA All-Star weekend. If you look at the number of people who attend this event, it's crazy. It's not just a game. It is a full weekend of events. There would be no hotel rooms, no where to eat and the number of people just walking around would be crazy. Only solution would be move it to another weekend. I just can not see having State finals any where else other than downtown Indianapolis. I know in the 80's we had it at New Castle because of the weather. I was there and it was not the same electric feeling as MSA, Conseco or now Gainbridge. Do not care what anyone says nothing compares to spending the weekend in Indy for State Finals.
  17. Nevermind he is no longer in bracket. Must have been flagrant.
  18. Does anyone know what happened at Penn regional 126? Kid from Wawasee got DQed in semi finals then forfeited 3-4 place match. If he forfeited can he still wrestle at Semi-state?
  19. Damm autocorrect. I'm sure Xcard knows the difference, he went to the same high school you did.
  20. Yes thanks for the explanation. Big difference between fans and coaches. I know first-hand how we (fans) can get out of control and there is nothing a coach can do. Awesome event and I'll be there in person next year.
  21. I'm a Huge CP fan. I have been telling people for a few years that this team was going to be special. And that they are. One of the best ever in Indiana history. With that said I feel the need to voice my opinion/concerns with the conduct of their coaches. Now I know they were in Illinois and with that comes home cooking for Mt. Carmel. And I wasn't there to see and hear what actually happened. But come on three points taken away and two coaches ejected. No excuses for that. Maybe I'm wrong here but let's act like you been there before. Forgive me for questioning the actions of CP's coaches but I think we need to hear something about why one of the greatest teams ever assembled in IHSAA history had three points taken away.
  22. Just wondering about Merrillville. I know these are based on ranked wrestlers and there is some formula that is followed. However, Merrillville has beaten 5 of these top 10 teams (Hobart, Valpo, Chesterton, Portage, and Lake Central). Their only dual loss all season has been to Crown Point.
  23. Yes. Congrats. Those kids knew what needed to be done and went out and got it done.
