  1. Where did these matches take place at?
  2. Yes the 3 seed was beat in the quarters and not the semis in both instances I was looking at…but still doesn’t seem right to me?? Again- I’m not bracket expert- but seems odd to me
  3. I am no bracketologist that is for sure…but can someone explain to me why the 3 and 4 seeds meet in the conso semi’s and aren’t cross bracketed?? Seems like if both lose in upper half, then wrestle-back they should meet in the 3/4 place match- not before?? In my simple mind- the 3 should get the 5 in conso semis, and 4 should see the 6??
  4. That brings up another thing I've always thought was interesting to think about...does the proximity to the State Finals favor the Indy-area teams ?? Being able to sleep in their own beds, lack of travel time?? You've heard the term "didn't get off the bus" etc.... I don't think I really buy into that ....to me it is just excuses - but it is something to chew on/think about.
  5. I don't think it would be "good business" for the IHSAA to get into a pis#$ing match with the local PRO sports team that has been willing to schedule games around a weekend of events (not just wrestling, but basketball as well). Our kids are fortunate to be able to play at such venues like Lukas and Gainbridge. This all-star thing sucks...but I'm not sure how you could have avoided it. (I'm actually in favor of moving the State Series, but I know it's not that simple) So it basically all comes down to being more "centrally located?" - If that is the parameters, then Evansville should probably never be in the conversation.
  6. SO - sounds as if it is down to Purdue or the Ford Center? Pros/Cons of each?? Obviously the first one everyone will cite is the geography. Being from Southern Indiana I was pumped to hear the Ford Center...but if it is up in Lafayette, more than likely won't make the trek up. Who has more seating? Parking? Hotels? Places of interest in the downtown area?? Evansville has a ton of restaurants, bars, and even a casino. I have to imagine that would be hard to top...but I know nothing of the Lafayette area - being a college town, I imagine there is some night-life as well. (Not that this should factor into any kid of decision)
  7. So in other words - the power is in the Academies . And the schools that are the MOST successful have collected a lot of the same academy kids?? Correct?? Again, I think the purpose of this thread was to identify what Crown Point and Brownsburg were doing differently to be so dominate - ?? The answer seems to be get them to Academies in the offseason, then make sure you get the majority of them to come to your school.
  8. I would agree with that statement. I have no idea ?? But are you saying that the "Region Wrestling Academy" has no influence in these results?? Look - this isn't an "attack" on CP and/or BB at all. What they have accomplished and built is incredible! But I believe the person that started this thread asked "what are these programs doing differently" that sets them apart?? What is the "secret sauce" so-to-speak. And- to me - just looking at it from afar the answer seems pretty simple - they are getting the best kids from the best academies to gather under one roof/one team. I know there are many more factors...but that seems to be a pretty big one. And it may come across as such - but it is not even really meant to be a critisim and/or a slight. "If you build it = they will come"
  9. Maybe so - but an awful lot end up at certain schools more than not. The academy coach doesn't necessarily have to take over the high school program for the collection of "club/academy" kids to assimilate at one school. I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out that's the main cog to a successful program and what is more-than-likely taking place at CP and BB. That's not to take away from the HC at both schools..obviously a ton of time and effort. Someone still has to steer the ship.
  10. I haven't went through and read all 3 pages of this thread, so apologize if it has been brought up/pointed out earlier - but to me, it is pretty simple: Seems like those schools (CP, Brownsburg, and now I guess CG) are collecting most of the "academy/club" kids in their area. Imagine if Maurer/Coughlin decided to coach at a public school (since MD is expensive) and brought all their club kids with them...I imagine they'd compete with the CP's and the Brownsburg's of the world.
  11. That's what most people think/assume. Just has never made much sense to me.
  12. 1. Hands down my absolute FAVORITE event of the year. There is just something about the raw emotion and dedication it takes in this sport. There is no hiding the agony of defeat...and the thrills of victory. Such a cool moment/event 2. #1 being said - I felt like "the electricity" was lacking a little bit - and I've chewed/thought on this for awhile thinking of reasons it could be - and I think I've settled on the reserved seating aspect. Don't get me wrong- I totally understand it and actually think it is nicer than the old "free for all/save seats" fiascos ....BUT - with half of the lower level being empty come Saturday morning/afternoon...I don't think that's a good thing?? So- what is the fix?? Do you go back to only buying Friday tickets and having to wait till midnight Friday?? Ugh... - Is there some type of possibility that those not returning can let the ushers know, and have some type of system that those seats are now available?? #3- I don't get the non-leaving/no reentry thing?? I asked a worker, and they said it was because of idiots drinking and then coming back and starting a ruckus?? Really?? I've been to the State Finals almost my whole life and don't recall very many incidents like that?? I just don't get the justification ?? I've purchased a ticket to an event, and you're going to tell me when/when I can't come/go as I please??
  13. Excuse my ignorance - but say a fella is busy on Friday night (I know, I know) and can only attend Saturday's sessions. Those tickets will not even go on sale until Friday night at midnight? Is that correct??
  14. Wrestling starts at 10 (real people time, not stupid time) - figure on about 2:30 hours for the first round, then 2 hours thereafter, with breaks in between.
  15. That is AWESOME!!!! Again though - if we are comparing best vs. best (which wasn't that the purpose of this thread?) - I don't think you can reference the World medals in your argument and not at least acknowledge the fact he kind of "gamed" the system to that route Andrew Howe stuck behind Burroughs Kyle Dake stuck behind Burroughs (for a while) Synder stuck behind Cox (maybe one cycle?) Fix loses to Gilman and vice-versa A lot of these guys could have more world medals if wrestling for another Country. They choose (or weren't able to) go that route.
  16. Don't get me wrong - wrestling for an Olympic team is unbelievable - BUT, BUT, if you're comparing best vs. best ....I don't know, taking the easy route to making the team ....seems like it would be a black-eye when making the argument
  17. Does it matter that he had to leave the Country in order to qualify for a team??
  18. That's awesome!! But again I ask - why the lack of transparency for this whole situation?? Not like I need to know everything - but some generic statement either from the IHSAA or this website, such as: "We (the IHSAA/Indianamat) apologize for the confusion on semi-state brackets. They were always intended to be released Sunday at 1 pm and we apologize for not communicating that properly." OR "We apologize for the delayed release of the semi-state brackets. We were experiencing unexpected technical difficulties. We appreciate your understanding in this matter" The lack of communication and leaving it a mystery as such just leads to unwarranted speculation and/or conspiracies of bracket manipulation. Or worse yet , Joe having them put negotiating their delayed release to drive up traffic to this website and $$ for bracket purchases. Just saying...
  19. I mean ...the LEAST the IHSAA could do is provide an explanation and/or time/date of WHEN the brackets will be released?? Why the mystery? Or at least explain the hold-up?
  20. (insert face palm emoji) - and this right here is why the IHSAA will never listen to any other sports about the importance of SEEDING - cause we (wrestling) can't even figure it out amongst ourselves! Essentially what I'm saying is I agree with Joe - don't make phone calls that are unnecessary. Figure it out as coaches.
  21. Am I wrong in thinking that Sellmer from Floyd Central made a similar decision in the semifinals?? If I remember correctly his score was TIED going into the 3rd and he (Sellmer) still refused to take the bottom position. I remember thinking to myself “wow- this kid he is wrestling must be a hammer on top” ....sounds like he was/is.
  22. This- get over yourself a little bit bud. The opponent he was wrestling got up from a leg Turk after the first period and didn’t like the fact he had an arm across his throat giving up near fall for about 30 seconds in the match. Gets up- acts CLASSLESS himself by getting in Lee’s face and talks/shoves Brayton - that set off the chipness in the match. If you are going to “poke the bear” so to speak...gotta be ready for the repercussions. I saw nothing wrong with the knee breaker seeing as how the Portage kid acted
  23. No way the kid is anywhere close to 100% - feel awful for him and wish him nothing but the best- but I’ve seen my fair share of knee tweaks/injuries and the poor guy couldn’t even put weight on the thing Saturday...hoping I’m wrong tho
