Saw some good duals yesterday.  What were some thoughts on the outcome?
 
Mine are.....
 
CP was the clear favorite.  I thought Avon deserved a higher place than they got (5th) but I know that's how the cookie crumbles with the brackets.
 
Pool A was a crazy bracket - MD, PM, EC and BB.  
EC beat Brownsburg 52-45.  MD beats Perry 52-31.  Perry beats BB 72-25.  Then BB turns around and takes it to the last match vs MD but loses to MD 36-33. PM defeats EC 54-39 in another close one.  That was a wild pool. 4 Solid teams.
 
I didn't get to watch a lot of the other matches in the other pools, but did see some close ones going on.  CG vs Franklin for 3rd and 4th was wild.
 
Overall I thought it was a pretty good day of wrestling.  Congrats to all the kids who competed and to CP for winning ANOTHER championship. 
 
Elementary Runner-ups. Middle School Champs.  IHSWCA Team champs.  Can they bring home another IHSAA individual championship in a couple weeks!?

You must eat at The Eagle. It has fried chicken and some of the best sides I have ever had! I go at least once every other week!

I also just realized how crazy Pool C was.  Everyone ends with at least 1 loss.  New Pal beats the eventual 3rd place team in the state but gets last in their pool.  WOW

Indiana Wrestling is on the rise and saw some high level good wrestling today. Thought the tournament was ran great.

English was a monster.

Yea they definitely wrestled a few times.  I am probably wrong, but for some reason I thought Jake won once.   

Did Nate Moore from PM and Jake O'Brien from FC ever wrestle? I thought they might have. If not, that would have been an excellent match. 

You def did more than just wrestle there, you lit the place up as well!

That Nick Hobbs match was insane. I remember being there and I was probably a 7th grader at the time and it was maybe my first time at state. I remember watching that match and thinking to myself “omg I have to wrestle in this place sometime in my life” after hearing the crowd go nuts. Good times. 

Jade McCammon of Sullivan and Hunter Hughes of Jeffersonville have to be near the top of the list. 

I think Mason could have made it closer than last week vs Gable but I don’t know if he could have taken him out. Lee vs Pletcher was going to be a fun one. Either could have won.

Howe did have a nail biter in the Semi’s at state against Nick Walpole in 06. Nick was the returning state champ and they went into OT with Howe obviously coming out ahead. Such an awesome match. 

Matt Coughlin bumped up and beat Paul Young. Both were #1 and both finished as state champs that year

Jake O'Brien and Nate Moore wrestled a couple of times, Nate was a defending state champ ranked #1 at 189 and O'Brien was a 2x state champ ranked #1 at 215. Moore won both matches. I also believe that Lee and Red were at two different weights and Lee bumped up for state series to wrestle him

Anyone else noticing how terrible the officiating is here at the Al Smith or is that just me? These stall calls are atrocious and asinine. One wrestler will be attacking the whole time and then defends one shot and is called for stalling. There needs to be more consistency. The young buck really enjoys putting himself in the middle of matches too.
