Evan Schaffer of Connersville busted up the HWT class his senior year. Just if he started to wrestle sooner in life. Great kid, great family.

Other IHSAA state tournaments are around the same time. They do not like to have multiple state championships on the same weekend. Reading between the lines, the IHSAA brass all want to go to wrestling and wouldn't want to go to a different event that weekend.

Sure hope he gets healthy and back on top. He's my favorite college wrestler currently on my favorite team.

It’s college wrestling… nobody is ever 100 percent healthy. The kid is amazing and had reached the number one ranking in his class of all college wrestlers. I’m guess he’s had a few hiccups but know in my heart that he will be on top again before it’s all said and done. A lot of my middle schoolers wear shirts that say BeLEEve. I think they are on to something! 

No I just make them up for fun.

Unfortunately the determination of "enough padding" can vary from referee to referee. The best bet is to find a high ranking referee in the area to check it out and offer an opinion on what is needed to be considered legal. Also having that referee communicate with higher ups(if needed) to make sure you are good to go on Saturday is a good thing.

This is Justice Cash and after losing 4 times at semi-state I am coming on here to share the story that I never was able to share after winning a state title... The dog tag in the picture has been in my shoe for every wrestling match since Amante Young's death... He was a brother to me and there was nothing I wanted to do more than win a state title for him and his memory. He died tragically in a car crash a few months after winning a state title in Michigan. For those who knew Amante you would know he was one of the sweetest, joyful, and kind hearted people you've ever met. He was always smiling and brought so much joy to others, he always had my back, and he always wanted to make himself better. His home life was never amazing but he still was always trying to make money to give gifts to his whole family during holidays and other occasions even knowing he wouldn't be getting any from his parents at times. He always wanted to help people and he never acted like he was bound to be unsuccessful because of his home life, he found ways to make himself better and others around him better. I could go on and on about how amazing Amante was as a person and a wrestler and about how much he meant to me and so many others, but here is the end and the end of my high school career. I would be so grateful if anyone who reads this would mention his name in my place after winning a state title this year because I have failed to make it there for him myself... Thank you...

Wolf is legit, great kid also. Not sure he’s ready to beat Cottey but Cottey will need to be on point. 

They had to redraw four weight classes because of forfeits. I believe every weight class had at least one change but many weights had multiple changes so the brackets would be are to have accurate from the beginning. I will be more than happy to post pictures of the brackets tomorrow morning when we get there. I spoke with the Connersville coaches and they are optimistic that this tournament will be on track next year. Fingers crossed.

right on.. he might be but today he wasn't 160.. he's def not a 82 pounder but he's a very sound wrestler and a solid win for the rushville kid Vaughn...

He's stable. Has no movement on his left side. Not sure if he's out of the woods yet. He's in great shape, obviously, so hopefully everything works out in his favor!
