  1. The IHSAA really needs to join the IHSWCA and add this as an all in type of tournament that doesn't count for the 18 points. Schedule should be 21 or 22 with 2 tournaments like other sports. Class team duals and single class individual tournaments as the 2 not counting in that total. Earning a spot by wrestling duals instead of basing it on individual performance is the only real way to do it. Shifting weights is a major component and it isn't really considered in the current qualifications. Also like to see dual teams defined as teams that can fill 7 or more weight classes as well.
  2. Miss that tournament. A lot of kids who were knocked out of the individual tournament became part of history by knocking off kids or just keeping losses to a decision.
  3. I'd like to see a scenario where we get classed individual tournament with wrestlebacks and a single class individual tournament with no wrestlebacks. I wouldn't be opposed to wrestlebacks in single class throughout if it were to happen. Just wish the schedule would be fair in comparison to basketball where they get a whole extra month of exposure. They play a lot of meaningless games for a month and a half, so why not let us wrestle more?
  4. Looking at numbers and compared to other sports, I wonder if the IHSAA would want more classes. I thought 5 would be the max and could promote growth in lower levels. Yes it would water the product down in my opinion, but that's why I'd like to have both single class and classed wrestling tournaments. For team duals: Single class would currently consist of 281 teams if you stipulated that teams must fill 7+ weight classes. So the current 32 sectionals for the current individual tournament would work with 9 teams per sectional (makes 288 teams). I would re-align teams to even each sectional to 8 or 9. Have 25×9=225 and 7×8=56, 25+7=32 sectionals, and 225+56=281 teams. From that you have single elimination sectionals from 281 to 32 top seed in 9 team getting bye and 8/9 winner. Then have 8 regionals of 4 teams single elimination again to have 8 teams at state. Sectional would be 3 or 4 matches (if 8/9 seed wins).Regionals would be 2 and state 3 with placement with single elimination to remain in winner's beacket. Giving 8 to possibly 9 matches total. Classed team duals with 281 teams in 5 classes =56.2 teams which would correlate to football with 64 teams per class (before 6A). I would do 8 sectionals/regionals (whatever you name it) of 7 to 8 teams depending which class has the odd amount of 57 teams. Top seeds get a bye in 7 team areas. Have it single elimination as well. So 56/57 to 8 teams with 2 or 3 matches. Then the 8 winners go to state where I'd keep the pool play. Two 4 team brackets of pool play and place in pool determines placement match. If not just do single elimination for winner's bracket. Could use pool play for 1st rd as well. Individual tournaments: Single class I'd keep the same format except make each match single elimination until top 4 placement. I'd also try to even out the number of schools in each sectional. The IHSAA lists 311 schools assigned to a sectional. I'd do 23 sectionals of 10 and 9 sectionals of 9 which is 23+9=32 & 230+81=311. Class individual I'd do 5 classes as well. 311÷5=62.2 which is close enough for 64. So 4 classes of 64 and 1 of 55. Have the 64 team classes split into 8 sectionals of 8 teams with double elimination to 3rd/4th. 1st/2nd would have 3 matches and 3rd/4th would have 4. Then have those top 8 do the same at state. Yes this will never happen, but hopefully can lead to ideas or other suggestions. I'd like to see class wrestling to enhance numbers but keep single class to ensure quality. With 5 classes, I think you could follow the success factor the IHSAA uses and allows for a future partnership to facilitate easier.
  5. Do you have the number of schools by class that would have 7+ weight classes filled?
  6. Where is the link for scheduling points and such on the IHSAA website? Just curious about an idea I had and if it could be feasible or not.
  7. I'm for keeping single class and adding multiple class wrestling for both the team duals and individual tournaments if the schedule could allow it. I'd treat the class individual tournament like Al Smith, Evansville, and etc. as a precursor to the single class individual tournament. I believe that the current class team dual has helped our AC program maintain and hopefully strengthen. Rarely will we have enough studs to overtake Bellmont for individual sectionals, so it was harder to get more kids to come out. When the IHSWCA came about and we had multiple top 2 to 4 finishes, I personally believe it helped gain more interest. Tony would be better to answer this, so I don't want to step on his toes on that aspect. As for single class team duals, I loved listening to our rivals Bellmont and the other power programs battle for the best team. So much tradition with Perry Meridian, Bloomington South, Mishawaka, Mater Dei, and others renewing rivalries.
  8. An idea would be to have all of the qualifiers choose a victory song if they were to win the finals. That'd be pretty cool.
  9. So the top performance by class would be Brownsburg, Yorktown, and Monrovia correct? Does the IHSWCA acknowledge that in way or form?
  10. I want to clarify that the individuals I am talking about are not on Indiana mat to my knowledge and are just fans now after being a coach(es) and referee(s). I think it just stems from heated calls in crunch time situations. I'm sure if those individuals and Coach Snyder, Harper, and etc sat down, bygones would be bygones. That's the great thing about this sport, is that you can be fierce competitors for 6 or so minutes but in the end we're all in it together. Remember you must be doing something right if others are bringing heat to the kitchen and you have that state title. Once again, congratulations on a great year.
  11. You got that right! Plus feed the pigs, beef steers, horses, and etc.
  12. How about Michigan and Ohio? Let's get them all out there.
  13. Nope just regionalized the states in my opinion.
  14. Middle of Adams County and don't you ever forget that! Not sure who the Jet fan who has been heckling you, but I will congratulate you and say not all of us are total haters. I will say that individual tournament success is very low on our radar compared to team dual success. This year's team was very down compared to most. We are a 1A football and wrestling school and 2A basketball, baseball, and etc. that has never embraced the larger schools in any way. I also believe that part of the dislike may go back to Mishawaka as I know a fan or two that coached and officiated who disliked a few coaches now at Brownsburg and Penn.
  15. Delaware County was the original # County before social media. Basically it was mostly Delta, but now it's much more. Then Bellmont got Adams County going. Good to see Daleville and Delta under the lights as well as Yorktown. Be nice to get Allen County a bit stronger. Carroll is the class, but others have solid dual teams. They could do some serious damage if more teams caught fire.
  16. NE Indiana is coming back! Love it! I'm not going to stick to the semi states for my definition. Warsaw and Wawasee are closer to Ft Wayne than EC. I'm dividing the state in quarters of 23 counties each. So EC, NC, and FW schools would be my definition.
  17. Wasn't one Harper in 09 going for #4?
  18. Think he's making the argument the wrong way in your response. I personally believe that all are capable of being equal when stepping on the mat. However when it comes to the preparation, I believe larger school wrestlers could have a major advantage. They have larger facilities and easier access points to prepare. More wrestling minds and bodies to compete against as well. The small school wrestler can train and practice the same moves and techniques but possibly have less time or room to do so. I know AC has tried to get a wrestling room to itself buy hasn't been able. Instead the have a third to a half of our PE gym that they share with middle school and Freshman boys and girls basketball. They even have used a much smaller elementary PE gym. Then you compare it to a Warren Central room that's probably as big as those 2 gyms and maybe our main basketball gym combined.
  19. That or just have more resources and former wrestlers to help build the program? To the topic in general : I guess my definition of small school wrestling programs are 1A for wrestling and 1A & 2A for football and other major team sports.
  20. Our Ft Wayne stations have The Score and Highlight Zone on the 2 major news stations. Only coverage is basically individual regionals and occasionally sectionals with a small comment on which teams won at Carroll and etc. They seem to go in depth for football and basketball. They have Soundoff for the semi pro teams as well.
  21. Does anyone have local TV coverage on the sport? We have dedicated coverage for football and basketball but that's about it. Believe most have little wrestling knowledge and don't want to try. Think it could easily be covered like those two.
