I think there are a lot of shenanigans in a lot of other sports across the state, we just have the platform and a passionate fan base that makes ours get more attention than what happens in other sports.

True, but GID gets a lot of seeding & neutral site playoff game discussion as well. Especially when Ohio seeds their football tournament. Indiana is better by having all in football playoffs & single class wrestling individual championships. Still support classed individual tournament between team state duals & singke class individual tournament. Both need wrestle backs at every step of the tournament.

The no noisemaker fan rule is usually covered for the IHSAA indoor sports like volleyball and basketball. So that school may have been delivering a blanket statement assuming all sports had the same policy.  Outdoor sports seem to be given just a little more leeway with how they can produce supportive noise.

More than likely the case but the rule might as well go to the wayside. You can't stop individuals from shooting off fireworks on their personal property next to the school though 🙃. Coincidence has it that they're timed perfectly with scores & end of games in an undisclosed location off school property.

Anyway, this incident is the same line. Mentioned more than one did it but only one of two may not have obliged. Instead individuals should have hounded Faulkens about why it is past time to have sanctioned girls wrestling, why no wrestle backs past sectionals, why no IHSAA help or sanctioned classed team duals. Also why football isn't seeded and etc. Remind him that this isn't the US government & we expect results.

Whoever told you cowbells are not allowed at ihsaa post season football games is incorrect.    I posted the restrictions below.  Football official here by the way.

Was to be no noise makers per the PA announcement. Anyway, the electronic noisemakers were present as well. Those are better than the cowbells anyway.

Note this is a satirical point of view only after reading all the previous comments....laugh, have fun or take at face value?  Not meant to offend anyone's point of view.

    Or the conspiracy theory surfaces-

Girls wrestling has seen phenomenal growth in both numbers and talent.

The carrot is dangled that if you do everything the right way as you should that the IHSAA may sanction Girls Wrestling in 2024-25.

The numbers grow and the 2023-24 IHSGW season and regional competitions are exceptional.

The season is capped off with an attendace packed energy filled fieldhouse in Kokomo.

Rumor is Robert Faulkens is in attendance to check it out for himself and further evaluate the worthiness and timeliness of sanctioning girls wrestling for the following year?

Then low and behold Sparklegate hits the board.

The attention of a successful season and post season is now in question because rules allegedly cannot be followed?

It was almost as if....do everything that has been asked of you and you may be rewarded?

Which may now turn into....whoa this isn't how we do things....maybe we need more time to consider and evaluate sanctioning girls wrestling?

You can do everything right and one little thing wrong.

Sometimes screaming about your own injustices results in more self damage than justice.

    Hmmmm some things to consider?

Let's see if this seemingly little issue affects the big picture now....or maybe that was the purpose all along?

If a reason was needed to not move forward....can we please not give it to them.

Hate to break it to you, but they already made that decision prior to the event & controversy. Hell it was probably made over a year ago. The IHSAA will say one thing & do another. Same with many other states. Look at the OHSAA on their football and now possibly other sports. They want what's best for the pocket books. You just hope it also aligns with benefitting the student athletes.

  5. See this is the crap they worry about instead of the major issues. Yeah it can be a possible safety issue, but have the offender clean the mat and physically take possession of the contraband as the host admin from the offender. Every HS/MS event I've been present has security there or very near. This is an example why wrestle backs, team state,  girls sanctioned, and etc get tabled or never brought to the table. Our school administration "representatives" in the IHSAA make mole hills priorty over mountains. Less so for IHSWCA & IHSGW (except this instance of major mountain sized mole hill) but even they have a few. Indiana continues to just stay stuck in the past when it comes to athletics as a whole. This falls in the noisemakers rule that gets broken at every playoff football game. Pretty funny Mr. Faulkens  was in attendance for one of those playoff football games as cowbells from the host team were ringing loudly as the radio broadcasters acknowledged him. Shows they have bark with little bite unless it personally bothers them. The host school was shut out, so those cowbells backfired. Yet they announce that rule constantly so you know they love it on the books but hate to enforce it.

I just don't understand the logic. 20+ years ago we had a top 5 overall team with <30 kids and half were football players. The two sports definitely exist synergistically.

Some of it is the specialization success in wrestling. Unfortunately some would be multi-sport athletes get discouraged they will just see wrestling only kids all year. They get the preconceived notion that they'll just go out & get whipped  the whole time. ONCE AGAIN THIS IS SOME NOT ALL! It also goes the other way where athletes mistakenly think just focusing on football or baseball for example, will make them elite at that sport. That it will be their ticket to a scholarship & maybe more. That sentiment has created a lot of the problems we see in participation, fan behavior, and officials getting abuse. We lost that it's a game and not a step to achieve fame & fortune.

  7. Nope. If I was a high school football staffer, I'd want them to do anything in the winter, spring, & summer. Whether it was wrestling, basketball, hockey, swimming, or etc in the winter time. Same with baseball, track, lacrosse, freestyle & Greco-Roman, & etc in spring/summer. Use different muscles & skill sets! Add in some weight lifting in the weight room as well as outside the weight room. Handle those small square hay & straw bales on the wagon & in the hay mow/loft. Work with stubborn steers, heifers, calves, pigs, sheep, goats, horses, and etc. Just make sure they take some down time in between to be kids. Fishing, mushroom hunting, and night crawler hunting can sharpen skills too.

My opinion remains the same. With the depth of talent Indiana now has we need to find more opportunities for these kids to make it to State. For themselves and for the schools that work hard. If we can’t ever get wrestlebacks and/or more State qualifiers then we need to start looking at classing the State. Times have changed and so have our wrestlers. It’s time to do what is right by them.

I think we will grow the sport at smaller schools by adding a classed individual tournament in addition to the single class individual tournament. No reason we can't have both it the IHSAA cooperates in the scheduling system. I'm sure 3A & 4A schools would hate it, but too bad. I'm going to throw out random schools with no affiliation in this example: Union (Modoc), Blackhawk Christian, Bethany Christian, Crothersville, and etc could have those 1 or 2 boys & girls that like the sport & compete. Then they can grow it by being the examples.

  9. Well it wasn't the final round Adams County was hoping to have. All 3 schools fall a place below their seed if you want to have a pessimistic view. Instead I'll take the optimistic view and say the County brought home 2 runner up trophies and a respectful 6th place/top half of the field finish. Plenty of good young wrestlers coming up for all 3. Another feather in the cap of the AC senior class. On to the next!

Fair enough… I’m not sure that came in to play in too many matches.. I would agree that Adam’s county is trending in the right direction with all 3 high schools being very dangerous.

I think a couple AC losses in that one were a result of early season & lack of wrestling conditioning. Especially 2 that ended up in falls for SA where AC had decent leads. Do think it could be a toss up again if they both meet up. AC looked closer to wrestling shape against Bellmont but still a bit to go yet. Having Robert, Sawyer, & Humble is huge for SA. I know they have some others with IN Tech ties helping as well. If Adams County is well represented at state, I'd be curious where the combined total of all 3 would fall in the points race.

I agree 1A will be exciting. Also forgot to congratulate WC on the win over Rochester. I feel bad for whoever has to seed this. I know South Adams could have beat Adam Central earlier this year but South Adam’s had their stud out that weekend and ended up loosing by 6. I think whoever shows up hungriest that day in the top 6 will win.

Very true, but you should also mention it was AC's first matches of the season coming from a short amount of practice as well. Football & wrestling shape are 2 different things. Definitely noticeable for the AC wrestlers as well as the basketball and swim team members that were on the football team. Hope SA & AC both make noise at team state. Too bad 1A & 2A aren't together so we could also see Bellmont hopefully make a 2A title run.

  12. Proud of the Bagubas and their showing. Hats off to Bellmont as they were outstanding as well. The Jay County Sectional & Regional as well as the FW Semi State should be a lot of fun. Hopefully all 3 Adams County schools show out at the team state duals. Adams County is the #1 County (our license plates say so 🤣)! Let's just make it official, the wrestling capital of Indiana!
