I reached out to some guys I follow on Instagram that buy and sell wrestling shoes.  One guy gave me a lead.  They are pricey, but said the seller might take $175.

I hope it works out!  Let me know if it does.

Wrestlers are too tough for the Corona virus!!  Plus, the Corona virus is susceptible to the headlock and gets "caught" all the time.  It prays on weaker sports like basketball!!

Prediction - we won't have Bobby Cox come out of the stands and change the rules on the spot for a wrestler who was not ready to wrestle...

CIA holds their practices a Lawrence North High School.  They practice Sunday, Monday’s, and Wednesday’s from 630-800. Cost is $80/mo.   They typically have three coaches in the room.

jay_flo78 got a reaction from Paycheck141 in Headgear and Brand Logos - Clarification as of 11/19/19
This was addressed by the refs during the coaches meeting at the John Hurley tournament.  They said that the rule was suspended for this year, so they weren't going to enforce it.  The only thing they brought up was other logos, such as colleges ect.  They said that the idea behind the rule was prevent kids from being walking billboards.  So all those kids paying $40+ for those stickers at off-season tournaments will need to peel them off before competing.

My son wrestled at St Roch and I thought that it was a good way to get matches in. Walk in, pay $10, get a couple of matches in, go home in a couple of hours.  Maybe that’s the answer to the question that we’ve been all been asking about getting more involved in folkstyle.  Maybe we need more weekday tournaments that can get families in and out.  No frills, nothing fancy, just two wrestlers getting after it.  I’d also like to see a mix of freestyle tournaments during folkstlye season.

jay_flo78 got a reaction from dstruck in Matside video replay?
So my son wrestled in Jeffersonville this weekend.  During the final match of his freestyle bracket, I was under the assumption that he was losing.  At the end of the match there was a scoring question that the other coach brought up.  The ref explained why he awarded points the way he did, which actually put my son as the winner and later raised his hand.  There was an uproar from the other side and the ref was starting to kick people out.  My son walked off the mat and we started getting undressed.  I looked over at the mat and saw someone apparently showing a replay of the match on their phone.  The ref called my son over to wrestle again at the point where he called the match.  I asked what was going on and the ref said he was wrong and didn’t score correctly.  My question to him was, when was video replay allowed Matside and why he was allowing external influence to decide the match   He didn’t give an answer only that he was wrong
I’m not upset at the loss and neither is my sone, just concerned about the precedent that this ref started.  I spoke with the “tournament director” about it afterwards and he didn’t agree with it, but did nothing about it when it occurred.  I also heard that these refs (KYrefs) will be at freestyle state, which concerns me.

jay_flo78 reacted to Kookie953 in An idea to help grow the sport
This topic is near and dear to me as I'm relatively new to the sport, have now been in two different states, and I have a kid that wants to be great but is by no means there yet...but is mature enough and old enough when he started to know the process (although he still does get down on himself).
But damn if so many don't take it too seriously, and others not seriously enough.  And they go together...especially when it comes to growing the sport.
First and foremost, if you are running a tournament...AT ALL COSTS START THE DAMN TOURNAMENT ON TIME!!  As we all know, there's nothing more frustrating than travelling 1-2 hours at the butt-crack of dawn to get to a weigh-in at 7:30 for a "Wrestling will start at 9am SHARP" to which the wrestling actually starts about 10:15 if you're lucky.
Which leads me to my next point, which is the whole business of weight management and making weight and cutting.  Why are their weight classes for individual tournaments at the elementary level?  Except for maybe truly "elite" tournaments like state?  Group kids into 8 man brackets or round robin by experience and let them get mat time.  I love taking my kid to go wrestle good competition, but like Mr. Brewer said it's a little like "man, what am I doing?" when you make this effort for your kid to lose 3-1 to the eventual champ in the opening round then run into another hammer that finishes 2nd or 3rd the next round.  Yes, it was good he was "close" to the guys that finished strong...but also a bit frustrating to make that much effort into 2 matches for a tournament that started way late.
And it's not about my kid "winning" bur rather just making it worth it.  I'm the first to tell my son "If you don't like losing, get your ass in the gym and work harder".  But I also would like to see a value in driving all over and getting my son more mat time (which is why we all love duals).
I can see how some parents that aren't so into it can say "to hell with this" and disencourage their kid to continue with the sport.  I just think the target customer needs to be identified and someone needs to take the lead on making the sport more enjoyable all the way around to everyone, not just the die-hards.  Very interesting convo!

Agreed.  I had my WIFI hotspot with me on Saturday and had no issues, but forgot it at home on Sunday and got nothing.  I'm not sure why my hotspot would work and not cellular service.  WIFI was Verizon and my phone is AT&T.

jay_flo78 got a reaction from CoachTJC in IHSAA Rules Change Needed
The rule may come from an organization larger that the school districts and the IHSAA.  From my understanding, the Indiana Department of Education has or had a law that restricted the travel of students on school buses.  The law read similar to what you posted.  I think the reason why the other activities listed get by with it is because they hire charter buses.
