  1. I was in attendance this year for my first NCAA finals. It was a great show. I did not mind all the side show; I do think that it can do nothing but help the sport gain public interest. However, I think they should go ahead and leave the lights off for the final matches. They flip the lights off for the podium and entrances of the wrestlers, why not wrestle with the lights off like we do for the state finals in Indiana? That is really the only change I would suggest to the NCAA.
  2. 1. Even if it was an escape, I find it hard to believe that McCloskey would have won in overtime. In my opinion he is a solid wrestler, but I don't think he has the gas tank that McClurg has. 2. It is impossible to speculate on what "would" have happened in the McClurg/Tatom match. I also think "dominating" is strong language considering the score was 2-1 when Tatom got hurt. It was a shame that it had to go that way; the fans at New Castle were robbed of an epic ticket round match. It will be interesting to see how the weekend goes... good luck to all competing!
  3. I agree... it would be similar to the "blood round" or round of 12 at NCAAs. I'm sure it would be just as exciting.
  4. I don't know if this qualifies as "best", but certainly a crazy ticket round match happened at New Castle in 2011. Scurria (Carmel) VS. Reidling (Warren Central). Scurria started the match with a lead, but then Reidling put him to his back and nearly got the fall, period ends. Scurria throws a headlock and pins Reidling. The gym got pretty loud.
  5. As explosive as he is on the football field, you would expect the same on the wrestling mat. Really his wrestling fell short of all expectations. Luckily for him football pays much better than wrestling.
  6. Solid analysis. Obviously I'm extremely biased. But really? You are going to call out a coach who had an extensive and impressive wrestling career not to mention a love for the sport? If you are going to try and actually prove a point, rather than just anger people like me, I suggest you skip the ad hominem fallacies and use a variety of specific examples. I'm not saying by any means that they have been the most flashy team, but some solid aggressive wrestlers have come through that program and to generalize the program in the way you did is just inaccurate. By the way, I have yet to meet a coach who said "the backbone of our team this season will be our ability to stall". It just does not work that way.
