County vs region Indianamat sponsored event With a middle school undercard

Portage is excited to be hosting the Indiana Frosh-Soph North Qualifier. We hope that all will follow the below rules for the event.
 
Frosh/Soph State Qualifier: 
 
February 14th, 2021
 
COVID-19 Protocol & Procedures 
 
Schools attending will only be allowed 3 coaches for the event.  Also, each athlete will be allowed to designate two attendees for the event. The attendees can only be the parents of the wrestler participating in the tournament. The Coach of each school attending needs to designate the person(s) attending via email by Friday February 12th, 2021. (andrew.bradbury@portage.k12.in.us)
 
All attendees MUST wear face masks. Athletes will be exempt from this when they are warming-up or competing.
 
If you are not feeling well, experiencing symptoms or may be at a higher risk for getting very sick, we recommend you stay home.
 
Each person entering the event will be subject to a screening for COVID-19 symptoms.
 
In order to encourage social distancing there will be extremely limited seating, it is highly recommended that spectators bring their own "camp" chairs for seating. 
 
Spectators from different households must always be seated 6’ away from each other. 
 
A designated monitor will be assigned to ensure social distancing and mask wearing throughout the tournament. 
 
There will be no physical interaction with the referee. The referee will maintain 6’ distance as much as possible. Handshaking and normal match procedures such as raising an athlete's hand will be eliminated from this tournament.

They came back to win the regional 191-190 over Hobart with a pin by Streck at 220.

Is a must for what? The training "365 a year" is a big downfall to this whole conversation. We've lost casual wrestlers because a combination of things.  But training every day of the year is going to drop retention rates terribly. 
Youth are getting burnt out from a youth season that starts in November and ends in March. But "if you want to be good you need to do Freestyle and Greco too." So now youth wrestling can be until May. It's no wonder that retention rate of athletes and coaches is so low. 
This isn't just wrestling, but the youth sports culture is so out of control that parents are pulled 100 different directions. It's easy to stop taking their child to wrestling when they have to travel for wrestling, baseball and basketball, etc...
 
At the high school level, we are asking our kids to train year round because we want them to be the best. But at smaller schools where those athletes do more than 1 sport they don't have time to train year round for 2 or 3 sports. I know coaches that get upset at athletes that aren't there all summer and spring, but if you want to know the truth, those part-time athletes are what is going to keep this sport competitive at semi-state and regional levels. We can't diminish their value because they aren't a state placer or aren't there every off-season practice. More participants will always help increase the competition level.

Wednesday night Region sports will cover the Merrillville vs portage dual. Always a good dual, this could be interesting Merrillville is solid top to bottom and portage has some young guys and some absolute studs.

Mitty fine day of wraslin. Ole Jimmy Watkins puts on a Mitty fine event . I have got som awards for da day.

Ok you got me dis week - the ongoing Pointer/ Tirana and Rumpf / Black battle
 
Under da radar - I think Fatore will surprise some people in 2 weeks - nice shots and set-ups
 
Da dominator - Reitz is a tough hombre - he got a mean streak in him
 
Roy Boy award - Black from Hobart - sporting a whole lot of ink
 
New comer - Perez from Highland in da finals at 220 as a fresh -
 
Looudest fans - merryville omg day got a few wit some strong vocal cords
 
 
One observation at 145 da Munster wrasled was in deep a few times. Just could not finish. Ole Leroy and Keith needs to get a little offense from macintosh. He ain't winning no state tittles wit openin up.
 
Well wraslin fans next week will be a good one in EC. Da rat is very happy wit he has seen. So da rest of da state you best get ready cause da rat got da brinks truck ready to haul some gold back.
