  1. No, no, I was referring to times they wrestled when at the same weight. Obviously today it wouldn't be fair. I'm fairly certain Colton has come up on the short end every time.
  2. Find out how many times Cummings has beaten Reitz in a match and get back to me. Some things are just mental.
  3. Thanks for the info, I guess since I've never looked at wrestling as a "team" sport and have concentrated more on individuals, I never realized they had finished as the runner-up on 05' or that they were a top 10-12 team this year. I've been to last 8 state finals in a row and the memory is not as good as it used to be, but has Avon had any individuals push for a title or win one over the last 10 years? I'm sure having Cathedral, Perry, Warren Central, and other powers in that general area doesn't make it easy to keep all the home grown talent at Avon. I'm making no accusations, I'm not from that area, just pointing out that if you build it they will come, and there are some powerhouses in the Indy metro area.
  4. Not trying to be a smart you know what, which I can be at times, but where is the disconnect between the middle and high school at Avon? Or is this a recent development where the middle school talent has yet to hit the high school halls?
  5. The problem is that you identified his loss as being part of his not working hard, which you clearly have no evidence to back. It honestly just makes you look foolish and wanted to point out the obvious. I got the opportunity to see him wrestle 8 times this year, Friday wasn't his best day, had nothing to do with him not working hard, he got beat by a game wrestler.
  6. How often were you in the Panther's wrestling room for practice?
  7. Ok let's think this through, they won't allow coolers, for fear of terrorism, but every kid in that place carries a huge book bag around. I'm confident that 9/11 is not the reason. If it was intended as a joke I missed it and apologize. If not your theory is flawed.
  8. Until the AD in the pink shoes is gone, we're wasting our breath. They do run a great tourney, announcer is terrible (being able to read should be a prerequisite), it's cramped, but the product is great.
  9. I'd love this to be the type of match where a bunch of points are scored, both are capable of this, but with the stakes being so high, I think we see a low scoring match, 3-1 or 5-2 is my guess. Using Hughes as my measuring stick, I think Sopko gets one or two takedowns and Schurg gets one or two escapes. Sopko is my pick, but again, I'm not betting, Schurg is tough as nails, I just don't think he's wrestling as well as he has in the past.
  10. While I tend to lean toward Sopko beating Schurg, I wouldn't bet on it. If you told me 4 years ago that Scottie Sopko's best showing at the state finals would be his freshman year, I would have disagreed wholeheartedly, but as it stands, a loss in the ticket round to Schurg can make that a reality. Bad deal for both, Schurg finished 2nd last year and has a chance to not even be at Banker's Life in a week. Two kids I have really enjoyed watching over the past 4 years, it's a shame that one will be left home after Saturday's quarterfinals.
  11. 6-7 would be absolute best case scenario, in my personal pick em', I'm taking 4 confidently from the m-ville semi-state, but after this weekend I could move that up. Agree on 4 Kingsmen in the semi's, with two realistically having a shot at winning, one wins if I was betting.
  12. Rather ironic that these two could potentially meet up with a state birth on the line.
  13. Again, 220 is not possible, your 1st and 3rd wrestle off first thing on Saturday. Need to show some love to Szydlo of LC, he's a bracket buster of sorts, knocked off both Loe and Streck for his Sectional Title. I can see him finishing 2-4 at the Regional.
  14. He's throwing shot and doing the hammer throw. He was with Purdue's track team at Wisconsin the week prior to wrestling at Ohio State. And he's still responsible for attending all football activities. Purdue may not have good heavyweights, but I can tell you Gelen is a freak and would give the top guys fits if he gave wrestling his 100% attention. The kid just loves athletics, wrestling being one of his favorites, which is what brought him back, that and Kyle bothering him.
  15. Try reading again, maybe you'll get it the second time.
  16. Minor correction, but your 220 is not possible. your champion and 3rd place finisher wrestle first thing Saturday morning. Majewski and Streck (Streak as you had him). I'd put LC's Szydlo in there in the 2-4 range, but everything else looks good to me.
  17. Keeps his winning streak in tact, dating back to sophomore year after his loss to Kral. Nice first win, 2 TD's.
  18. I heard it from Gelen himself, he won the wrestle-off and said he was wrestling against Ohio State. That's good news.
  19. I agree with much of your post regarding college wrestling except for the time involved for no pro future. College athletics shouldn't be looked at as a stepping stone for a professional athletics career. I think you have to be foolish to look at it in those terms quite frankly. Athletics should be used as a tool to get college paid for or for a student to get accepted to a university they ordinarily wouldn't have a chance of gaining admittance. I actually had this very talk with a former state champion's father and although the wrestler in question didn't have what most people would consider a successful college career, he did graduate from an Ivy League school and is winning the battle so to speak, as he's gainfully employed and is able to walk in to most interviews with a leg up because of his education. Getting beat up and having injuries on a day to day basis and participating in a sport that no one outside of us crazy people and your family cares about is hard, but those who get that parchment paper are that much more prepared for future success, and I'm not talking about parchment paper with General Studies at the top!
  20. I know it's a quasi college topic, but thought I'd share with everyone that Gelen will be making his college debut tonight versus Ohio State. The HWT he's wrestling is ranked 10th in the country, so he picked a hell of a first match. Purdue will also wrestle Illinois on Sunday, so he'll get a few matches under his belt this weekend. Good luck to Mr. Robinson.
  21. The Drew Flu? Kidding, he's not the type to run from a challenge, just wanted to be clever. Black and Reitz still a go?
  22. Sophomore year in the finals was a close one, but not sure if he was taken down. I believe it was Samuels he wrestled. If I'm not mistaken he was s returning champ. I was referencing Howe in my last post. Robinson wasn't scored on as a junior but did give up a TD in the semis his senior year.
