  1. 4 placers and 3 runner-ups isn't exactly a failure either. I'd say the only one who underperformed was Bam. Poynter lost to the eventual runner-up on Friday and Torres and McIntosh ran into 2 hammers. Cornejo is a top 16 guy but I wouldn't call his loss shocking. Rumph' 4th place finish was an overachievement in most people's eyes. All in all I'd call that a successful tournament run as a team, might even say they were dialed in.
  2. I feel bad for Hobarts 160 pounder, his reward for winning his regional? The CP kid who's rock solid in the ticket round.
  3. I'd say your 113 is a strong favorite, without having seen Swank since early in the year, I'd say he and Fattore should be battling for top spot at 170.
  4. Your question doesn't make sense on a few fronts, 1, he clearly said SECTIONAL seed in his post, and 2, a 6th place finisher doesn't move on to the regional. Good job to your 3 wrestlers by the way!
  5. At Calumet, both Merrillville and Portage dominated the field. Today my coaching ribbon
  6. Totally agree, but the getting better goes both ways. You're right we can have differing opinions, mine just has a win to support it
  7. True, but the inverse of that is that you have two kids who have wrestled and Reitz won, so despite the national success of Konrath, the fact that the match has happened and Reitz won would leave me inclined to say he is at least one point better than Konrath.
  8. Let's look at the bright side, Mexico is paying for that 16 billion dollar wall.
  9. When making fun of someone for posting NONSENSE, perhaps recognizing that it's a word not requiring a hyphen is something you should be aware of. I just thought I'd point it out since you are all knowing and don't want you looking foolish. Back to talking about wrestling.
  10. I'd say Dan Bedoy has a bit of knowledge when it comes to scoring and wrestling in general (major sarcasm). I thought he did a great job of announcing.
  11. Mis from Griffith has won 2 and will be going for 3 this year if I'm not mistaken.
  12. It was hard to follow in real time, I don't care who the ref was, that was hard to score and call because it was happening so fast. The fact that Rumph is such an incredible athlete and was in and out of different positions so fast it's just hard to score. I do believe the back points were earned and thought Black could have been awarded back points a second time. All in all a great match for the fans, look forward to round 2 in Black Oak on Saturday.
  13. I knew he was attending Portage at some point, someone stated dad may take him to Illinois, wasn't sure if it happened. I know nothing about his current status as far as school attendance, which was the reason for my uncertainty. So in summation, you're wrong, I didn't/don't know where he goes to school, and I've been called worse than ridiculous, so I'm ok with that
  14. Chris Rumph looked great today versus Black. Took Black down rather easily for the first 2 1/2 minutes. Not sure about the scoring at the end of the match, we'll call it questionable at best, but Black was able to pull it out with a few big moves. Last 2 minutes belonged to Black, very entertaining match. Looking forward to seeing those 2 over the course of the next few weeks. Also wanted to give big props to Portage, it's clear that they were prepared for Black and had him off his game early. Leroy and his staff had that squad ready today. Congrats to the Red Indians. Oh and one more thought, Poynter and Triana was entertaining as well, those two should meet multiple times as well.
  15. I get sarcasm bud, I was joking was well, in the words of Aaron Rogers, R-E-L-A-X.
  16. I have a Wayne Gretzky poster in my office that reads, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take", so despite the minor smell of desperation, I back your moves!
  17. Calm down there Big Fella, I didn't even mention your first 2 years because it's hard to dominate when you've taken losses, I'm not discrediting the fact that you had studs to push you the first 2 years. I said that you were perhaps a product of your own success the last 2 years, meaning you made it look easy on the mat. Never said you were scared to wrestle G, just said the match at Merrillville you didn't look thrilled, I'd even call it upset. Perhaps you were getting mentally prepared, who knows. Either way, it's a discussion and I personally have Mr. G ahead of you in my all-time greats, his 2 head to head wins being a deciding factor, which is why I brought them up and quantified them by saying it happened when you were young. I said I had no interest in posting while I was in college. Dude, you are really, really good at reading and comprehending. I'm sure you attended a solid community college.
  18. Well clearly you didn't go to college because if you did, you could read and would have concluded that 20 year old me was busy chasing females and earning a degree, having little interest in a wrestling message board. Vito was around my current age in 2000, around 37, the age where we have nothing to do but make false accusations over the computer. There's your explanation detective, go back to being a computer BA.
  19. Had this conversation with Riser, it was explained. I don't think I have to defend that vito and I are two different people. While Vito was posting in 2000, I was in college. You are very bright I'm sure, but we are two different people. By the way, IP address only means we work in the same place. Don't go applying to work for the CIA just yet detective.
  20. Please oh please do not make that head of his any bigger.
  21. Appreciate it, and in no way was I disrespecting the kid, he's just not in the conversation for me. His track record as a junior and senior speak for themselves. Perhaps his success made it look so easy, or his lack of a real opponent the last two years hurts him in my eyes, or a combo of the two? His statistics are second to none, I could see how an argument could be made, especially by a Pirate. Side note: Gelen beat a baby Streck 2 times, so there is that head to head data, albeit when Streck was an underclassman and Gelen was a Junior and Senior. Loved Streck's face the one year when he realized Gelen was bumping up. To say he was not thrilled would be an understatement.
  22. In all fairness to Streck, it's very difficult to "dominate" at HWT. The style of wrestling doesn't really lend itself to dominance. Most of the matches are low scoring because it's a lot of locking up and circling. Streck was the anomaly in that he was athletic enough to create offense from a few different shots, but I just don't think dominant when I remember his state finals runs. Steck would be in my personal Hall of Very Good. Huge fan of his by the way and a very impressive career for a 4 year HWT.
  23. I would have laid money on Parris winning 220 last year, even with a "healthy" Larson or a 3 shouldered Kobe Woods.
  24. I'm obviously partial to Gelen being the best. I know history will show he is a 2 time champ, with a 3rd place finish, anyone who witnessed his semi-final loss to Kral could argue he could easily be a 3 time champion if not for a compelling argument from Coach Vlink and the lack of a lumbar vertebrate from the gentlemen in black and white, but I digress. The 7-2 and 9-3 scores are not really indicative of the actual matches either. Fletcher Miller had a good game plan in my opinion, trying to keep the score low and hope for an error to capitalize on because he wasn't out wrestling Gelen. This defensive style didn't allow Gelen to open up, thus keeping the scores relatively low. During his 3 year run at state, I believe Gelen only gave up 2 TD, one in the match with Kral which was on a lat drop attempt that went bad and then to the Faulkenburg kid. Gelen also didn't start wrestling until 7th grade, so his learning curve was expedited and really showed how much of a freak athlete he was. Mason is an awesome wrestler in his own right, I'd hate to speculate who'd win between the two because I'd obviously be choosing with my heart and not my head.
  25. I was always a traditionalist when it came to wrestling attire, wrestling shoes, singlet, headgear, and maybe a knee pad or two, after putting my eyes through that last post, I'm a big fan of the Flo shorts and shirts.
