  1. Fill out the waiver for little Billy that u want in, and let everyone else make there argument themselves. What good are you doing for wrestlers or wrestling by putting kids on blast for wanting to compete.

Maybe the ISWA dropped the ball or should have waited till next season to start this new qualification? I'm not sure what's right, but help in the matter instead of throwing all under the bus.

My kids that saw they weren't getting two tournaments in quit training freestyle. The ones that did now see they wasted time and money as they could have spent 5 minutes writing a flimsy excuse.

The ISWA is dropping the ball by now allowing kids to skirt their rules.

  2. Guys so it seems like everyone cries of injustice on the two qualifier requirement has found a compromise.  I haven't attended a ISWA meeting this year except for the bid meeting so not sure on the discussion they had on this but it looks like they have tried to help the "no love for the north" people to make sure they can still attend State.  So now, by them trying to help out the people who cried foul about the qualifiers, will we see a backlash that now that didn't follow the rules they set forth?

Curious to see how this will unfold I will go pop some popcorn and come back to read the comments.

All my kids that looked at the calendar and said "can't make two freestyle events" stopped training freestyle. There was no point to it. I'm sure that was the case for many others.

When you make a rule, follow it. You are now telling all 800+ people that went to two events that "well you didn't have to, but thanks."

  3. Funny this comes from the guy who complains about no tourneys up north. Might have had something to do with getting a tourney going up that way, then had only 2 wrestlers show up. Does that sound right?

Why would you stir the pot? Seems like you would worry about your situation and not everyone else's.

The fact that you have to make 2 of a 4-5 week freestyle season is ridiculous to me as well. I certainly would not cry about kids getting in if the ISWA let's them thou. I had 1 kid register for 3 tourneys. Wrestled a total of 2 matches at 1 tourney against the same kid. I'm sure he is fit and ready for state after paying, I'm mean winning his medals.

Y2 you should be the guy that promotes wrestling for all not what just affects your area. Come down and see how the east central side of the state is. The north should be thankful

This has nothing to do with "my area" as you like to put it, it has to do with setting rules and FOLLOWING them.

I don't like it when someone makes a rule, then lets a bunch of exceptions in. There were 800+ kids that fulfilled the requirements and now we have people who can just send a letter and not have to go through the same hoops the others had to go through. I had a parent ask the ISWA a couple weeks ago about the requirement since their son could only get one event in due to work obligations. They said NO, so he had to take off of work to go wrestle two matches to qualify. Now, if they would have just waited they would have just had to make up some flimsy excuse and get it.

  4. I was just forwarded this from our club director, sounds like you didn't have to go to two events after all.

    Not good ISWA, NOT GOOD!

I know of kids that skipped out on going to USAW Folkstyle Nationals to get a tournament in

I know of kids that drove 2 hours to pay and weigh-in to get a tournament in

I know of kids that were legitimately injured and not even cleared medically that paid and weighed in to get a tournament in

NOW all of a sudden they allow people to petition in???

  5. Dear ISWA Board Members,

The flyer for the Freestyle State Finals states, All participants must compete in a minimum of 2 Local level Freestyle tournaments in order to compete at the State event.”

In looking at the current entries it appears as if some kids who didn’t participate in two local freestyle tournaments are now being allowed to wrestle at state. You are opening a can of worms that will leave a big black eye on your organization if these kids are allowed to wrestle. You told people that, jobs WERE NOT an excuse, national events WERE NOT an excuse, Grandma Betty’s birthday WAS NOT an excuse, spring break WAS NOT an excuse, participating in baseball or track WAS NOT an excuse, and so on. The only viable reason that should be allowed is an injury that is accompanied by a doctor’s note.

Now it is time to step up and follow the rules you set forth for your membership. How the organization responds to this will affect the future more than you can imagine. If you set rules and allow people to get around them you will create a chaotic atmosphere that will not look good upon the organization.

    Thank you

  6. Companies like those sponsor events all the time. I'm pretty certain even a couple "Hall of Fame" events are sponsored by a couple of those big names. I believe when this event was being started I recall Trent saying something about trying to secure a big time sponsor to help offset costs.

Not sure if that has been tried, but if it hasn't it should be the ORGANIZERS that contact these organizations.

  7. Here is my rough guess if we took 2 from each semi-state and then 4 wildcards, red are the different teams invited

  8. Per my calculations based on the entries of events on TrackWrestling there should be no more than 813 wrestlers this weekend.  The only event that is not on TrackWrestling that I know of is the Carmel Freestyle duals.

Also, five wrestlers signed up currently only have one event in per my calculations.

  9. Don't put it past some parents checking the kids in their son's weight class for their two tournaments. This WILL get ugly when you have 50 crazy wrestling parents yelling at the ISWA staff because of this. Then on top of that you will have the parents of the kids that went to two events none too happy either.

  10. I'll let my bus driver know that is is "only an average of 25 minutes longer" when we arrive home at 3 AM Sunday morning.

I would like to hear from an Indy-area school on why they don't want this event. I, for one, would KILL to host this...and so would my parents/booster club.

Is getting the ISWA involved a possibility? They are already equipped to handle this sort of event.

Let's contact Purdue & IU and ASK them what they think? It would be recruiting in their back yard!

What facilities are there that can hold 10-12 mats that EVERYONE can view at once without portable bleachers? Purdue has a fieldhouse, but the seating there is not close to the action and there would still need to be lots of portable bleachers brought in. I don't know about Indiana's facilities, nor do I of Butler's.

If we want this event to grow we need a facility that you can view all the mats and we aren't in separate gyms. There are very few of these types of facilities in the WHOLE state. On top of that, there is even a smaller number that are feasible financially.
