It's tradition, why make it easier to qualify for state? Are we really wanting all these kids to be soft and have wrestle-backs? Man up and work harder, then you don't have to worry about a supposed bad draw.

Making wrestle backs doesn’t make kids soft? For example, should Hunter May or Tommy Gibbs not be able to wrestle back to the state tournament? The number 2 and number 3 kid in the state aren’t qualifying because of poor tournament structure. I’m sure Hunter and Tommy both have worked as hard as they possibly could. Again, tradition doesn’t justify IHSAA not looking at different routes to produce the best state tournament possible. I understand there won’t ever be a “perfect” tournament but there can 100% be more effort put into giving us a better tournament series.

The idea that “ it’s always been this way why change it now” is an odd way to look at it to me. I get the excitement about the “worst ticket round matches”. But this isn’t about spectator excitement. this is about the best 16 kids making it. Until there is a change you’ll never have the top 16 of each weight on the state floor. I can appreciate you love for the randomness and exciting semi state matches. But just because it has been this way doesn’t mean it shouldn’t ever change.

You will never get the top 16 kids on the floor and the same time.

Someone will have a bad match, a bad draw, miss weight, skin funk, an injury that takes their season away, get kicked off the team, be ineligible, the list goes on and on. You will get the 16 best on any given day barring any circumstances.

IHSAA and lack of wrestle backs are proof that it can be stupid and “work” and still be stupid.
