Ahawkeye
Good luck Castle, after work tonight I'll be partaking in a couple of adult beverages to dull the pain, still plenty of wrestling this year good luck to the Wildcats that will be wrestling on Sat. morning. boilergrappler
Agree Ahawkeye, the west side is a little stunned again for the second time in two years. I must say either Mater Dei or Reitz would of represented us well also at state. Congrats to the Castle Knights on their trip to state.

Kind of anticlimactic for Chad W. It was a great night of wrestling. Props to the Castle boys...they brought it when they needed to. Long night and I have a 6am meeting...I will catch up with you tomorrow amigo
Grap41
Too Bad a Castle Fan spit on an MD Mat Maid .... then the fan was escorted out by a State Trooper Not true and I wont dignify this with a response. If you were there then you would know what happened. If they had spit on the peerson in question (and there were 4 of them) the Castle person would have been taken to jail not just asked to leave. Dont throw out speculations unless you were there 1st hand. I was and so were some very reputable MD parents there who would back it up also. Things just got out of hand and ugly and truly there is no room for any of that on either side ever... Hats off to the boys...what a night for everyone...MD made it very close and it could have gone either way..
Cover2
Too Bad a Castle Fan spit on an MD Mat Maid .... then the fan was escorted out by a State Trooper Not this again... Just to clear up those not sure about the law. It is a crime to intentionally spit on someone and the person spitting can be charged with criminal assault. I am sure the State Trooper also knows this as well. I have a feeling there is probably more to this story we are not being told. On a different note, Congratulations Knights! md85
My synopsis of this meet: Started at 171. Warren wrestled a heck of a match to make Boots take him to overtime to win. 189, I was impressed by Rosebrock's ability to keep his temper in check while only getting a decission against Wright, who should have been DQ'ed for stalling. Not taking anything away from Wright, he did what he had to do, but the refs were really generous to him. 215 and 285 went to Castle by decision as I expected. At this point MD was down 12-3 and I felt pretty good about where they were. They still need big matches from several wrestlers, needing a 10 point surplus going into the last two matches. Those big matches did not occur. 103 Vibbert ekes out a 3-2 win. 112 Little Welch with a tech. 119 I believ this was the match where Lannert had the Castle kid on his back most of the first two periods. Started the third period up 13-0 and only got the major. Castle kid wrestled great in the third. 125 Henderson got out wrestled by Brown for the decision. 130 Schroeder wrestled better than the kid from Castle, but not by much. 135 MD's only shining moment, Weinzapfel by pin. 140 out wrestled again. 145 and 152 match was already over by this point, Welches did what Welches do, won. MD didn't hand this meet to Castle, Castle took it.

If Castle had started at 103 o2 119 it changes the dynamics. I think this is good for our sport down in SO IN and its good to have healthy competition. It will raise the level of the kids from all the schools a notch or two all the down to the little kids programs. Good luck to all the boys who made it through to Regionals this weekend.... IUBjj171
Beautiful synopsis. Momentum was big. Castle didn't give out big matches and wrestled hard. Md lost some close ones and didn't get those pins and majors
just1guy
Yes- Weinzapfel did win the match with Renaldo Weekly last night. Don't remember the score, but Weinzapfel pretty much dominated the match and the result was never in doubt.

My initial impression before any wrestling started was that Castle looked confident and Mater Dei looked tentative. That is also how I thought the wrestling took place. I know a few key moments and things could have been different, but for the most part Castle was in absolute control of the night. MD seemed to be reacting instead of forcing action. I think Castle was served very well by their seniors and having the Welch boys anchor the line-up had to provide a lot of confidence to the first twelve. I think MD showed their youth. Don't remember the score, but Weinzapfel pretty much dominated the match and the result was never in doubt. I believe the score was 7-9, weinzapfel dominated more than the score shows, weekly hit a reversal then a cradle for 3 in last seconds of the match
mtv2112
. . . 189, I was impressed by Rosebrock's ability to keep his temper in check while only getting a decission against Wright, who should have been DQ'ed for stalling. Not taking anything away from Wright, he did what he had to do, but the refs were really generous to him . . . When those two walked out onto the mat, I felt sorry for Wright. Rosebrock looked like a physical speciman and the youngster from MD just hasn't had time to develop. He did an unbelievable job of not getting destroyed. I thought the head butt penalty was bogus, it looked incidental/accidental to me.
BlueBolt
I can only say this...Those kids from Castle have HEART. I wasn't able to be there, so I have no idea who locked up the Jasper Gym this year (inside Joke from last year). But I got the idea the crowd was much like it was last year. Congrats to all the teams that made it to the Regional Level. And to those who have punched their ticket!
