  1. I'm pretty sure this magical two second delay is what people could see watching it live and then looking at the trackwrestling feed on the scoreboard. And there is normally a delay between live and a broadcast. However, there would be no delay on the broadcast between the clock and the video as noted by hook so I suspect the 2 seconds is real. I also suspect over 50% of the general public won't understand. It's a similar lack of understanding as this great movie quote illustrates "but it goes to eleven"
  2. IU has deep seated problems in many of their sports. Both basketball teams are having issues. Football has sucked for at least a generation. I concur that they have an organizational problem. It was exposed during the Bob Knight fiasco and has never improved.
  3. The excuse factory was working overtime. 8 vs 4 is so simple.
  4. Folks, spend your money and support wrestling. You should make it a priority and not a complaint, if you have the means.
  5. Indiana had some additional rules that might hurt small schools (in all sports). Not sure how other states compare. Chiefly among these rules are the strict regulations regarding in-season training with kids from other schools and club teams.
  6. First round of regional, first two rounds of semi-state, and first round at state are all single elimination . . . you lose, you are out.
  7. It has been boring. Probably because every perceived injustice is disected to the nth degree and no one wants to take a chance of offending anyone else's delicate sensibilities. It's more of a wrestling news site now, which is nice.
  8. So is the problem at Indiana with the coaching or the recognition/acquisition of talent?
  9. Another fine example of a bunch of white men sticking it to some indians. At least your (perceived) injustices don't require you to move off your land or die.
  10. Bethel gave up three stalling points and a locked hands. That was all the scoring for castleberry.
  11. According to NFHS data on high school sports participation for 2012-2013, Pennsylvania has about 28% more high school wrestlers than Indiana. I would have expected a higher participation number since the population of the state is higher and wrestling is reportedly more a part of the fabric of life there.
  12. Some random data and thoughts . . . http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/columns/story?id=6163208 this website pretty well says it all. UNI has something like 28 out of 37 wrestlers from Iowa. They have no wrestlers from Indiana. The best wrestlers from Iowa probably don't go to UNI. Purdue has 19 out of 29 wrestlers from Indiana. They have no wrestlers from Iowa. The best wrestlers from Indiana probably don't go to Purdue.
  13. You published the coaches salaries earlier. Seems pretty straight forward to me. Purdue will not pay the big time salaries that other schools are willing to pay. For pretty much any sport. I'd wager they don't have a single coach with a top five salary in the Big Ten, for any sport.
  14. I'm saying that if being competitive in the Big 10 is your measuring stick, then you will chronically be measured as performing poorly because the program will never be funded to succeed at that level. If your metric is to be a top 25 program then you might have a shot. I'm saying the coach won't much matter because the program is underfunded. They obviously know that or they would have hired someone else by now. They are content that he runs a nice tidy program and doesn't cause trouble.
  15. Purdue was 5-3 in the Big Ten in 2012-2013 beating Wisconsin, Michigan St., Northwestern, Michigan, and Indiana. Losing to Penn State, Iowa, Illinois. That was their best finish in years and could be considered competitive for that single season. However, Purdue will never succeed in wrestling, if consistently being competitive in the conference is the metric, as Purdue is not willing to financially support wrestling to the extent of other schools. It doesn't matter who the coach is because if the coach is good, he will find more money somewhere else. So, if you want to change wrestling at Purdue you had better start with the financial structure of the athletic department. Anything else is a complete and total waste of your time. Someone prove me wrong.
  16. What should the measure of success be? AA's, team rankings, or some other metric. What is the threshold for either program to be considered successful?
  17. Of course, I think the video below says it all. It's a slow build up so be patient.
  18. For me, this argument doesn't hold water. Those countries noted are not losing focus or resources on athletes playing baseball, basketball, football, etc. We would probably be winning more medals if the top athletes in the US focused on wrestling first. Thinly spread resources are a potential issue with small schools. Whether the resource is money, facilities, time, or the number of available athletes. Small schools likely have a much high incidence of athletes playing multiple sports and therefore not as likely to focus on wrestling year round.
