That name sounds familiar. Does he happen to have a relative that has wrestled before?
  2. Here is another story I came across last week that shows the brotherhood of wrestling. http://khak.com/iowa-high-school-wrestler-forfeits-to-honor-opponent-who-died/
  3. Other rankings worthy results Pillpott FC over Redmond JC at 195 by fall (he had solid lead at the fall) Galligar CE with a win over Sutton JC at HWT by Inj. Default. (he has a solid lead at the default) However, Jennings County holds their lead over Columbus East to win the HHC team title. Floyd Central with a nice 3rd place showing. All three teams made this years conference title a very close race.
  4. Jennings Co just ahead of Columbus East and Floyd Central going into the placement round. Close three way battle for 1st. Currently Jeffersonville is ahead of New Albany for the 4th spot.
  5. At the halfway point it looks like Jennings Co got the points needed to jump out to an early team lead. Columbus East find Floyd Central nipping at their heels for 2nd. Plenty of matches left though.
  6. http://www.trackwrestling.com/predefinedtournaments/VerifyPassword.jsp?tournamentId=943076 Team Projections by the seeds (We all know those don't always work out exactly as planned.) 1. Columbus East. With a string of #1 seeds in the lower weights they are in a position to top Jennings County. East lost a solid 195lber contender to injury, but from the seeds they still have enough fire power left. 2. Jennings County Still within striking distance of CE, but some things are going to have to fall their way. Not having the Shepard brothers in the line up puts JC a step back, but we know that Coach Jones knows how to squeeze the most out of whatever lineup he submits. JC has a decent lead over the next group. 3-6 New Albany, Floyd Central, Jeffersonville, & Seymour NA and Floyd are seeded to finish in the top half of the teams. Jeffersonville and Seymour seeded for the next two spots. But, all four of the teams are pretty close together. Getting the most out of the wrestlebacks will decide the exact order of these four teams. NA getting Dowell back in their lineup increases the chances of them finishing near the top of the group. 7-8 Madison and Bedford Both teams have a few seeded wrestlers that have to deliver if they want to edge the other team out. Multiple forfeits will put Madison in a hole early, but they seem to always have a few wrestlers that advance farther than expected. I'll be helping at our elementary tournament Saturday, so I guess Bentz and Zollman can grapple for my slices of pizza.
  7. On Seymour Yes, we wrestled those two teams on two different occasions.
  8. Yeah, he usually puts one last SS Rankings out prior to Sectionals once all of the Conference results are in. Then we also get his always informative Semi-State Preview after that.
  9. You have that Freakshow info right for Timberman. Cash lost in the semi-finals that year to talented Eric Wick of CA (who was lesser known at the time) in the elite division.

  14. Didn't they used to have the the Great Lakes Wrestling Tournament at Lambert during freestyle season back in the early 1990's? Can't recall how many mat they had down but it seems pretty big back then.
  15. Pepsi Coliseum had some cost issue, so if cost was a factor in not sure the money would be there for a two day event. Plus you would also have to work around other event (hockey and such) that could already have the arena booked at least one of the two available days.
  16. Yes but that would mean more schedule points teams would have to use, events teams would have to drop in and out of from year to year, and gymnasium time ADs would have to fit in that may change each year. So unless we have some IHSAA backing to help with these items that option doesn't looks as feasible.
  17. I mentioned it as an option on hear a few years back.
  18. Due to the gyms layout we can get about 6 mats on our main floor, and that doesn't leave much room after for scoreboard and teams. Though that would cause some slight viewing obstruction if the wrestling moved into the 1/3 of the mat closest to those in the upper stands by them. Not sure what the top level seating is where everyone would have to be but it should be decent. Then we have room for about two mats in our auxiliary gym with seating being limited. So as much as I'd like to see the event in my backyard, honestly Seymours gym would be stretched passed its limits mat wise for a 36 team event. Unless someone want to pitch so the school will finally build a larger sports complex to take the place of the small auxiliary gym they put in. Plus you would have to convince the school to stop scheduling some type of basketball event in any open date or space the school has.
  19. It may not be an official IHSAA State championship title, but I'm sure you won't notice much of a difference at Prairie Heights High School. One heck of a team they have put together this season. Not only the best in the 1A group, but from I have read and heard one of the better teams in the state in any class.
  20. Well for sectional purposes the official IHSAA seeding criteria is: Determination of seeded wrestlers is given in order of importance: a. Head to head competition; (The wrestler with the most head to head wins gets the seed. If they have beaten each other an equal number of times, then the winner of the last match gets the seed.); b. Record against common opponents; c. Semi‐State quarterfinalist in IHSAA Tournament Series; d. A contestant with the best overall record (winning percentage) who has wrestled at least 10 matches; e. Farthest advancement in previous year IHSAA State Tournament Series; So in most cases common opponent or best record would allow a stud freshman to get an OK seed. At Al Smith Rooks may have been limited in common opponents, due to being from father south, but his record should have helped in seeding. Another part of the IHSAA seeding criteria does say: Coaches should strive to keep open minds when seeding assignments are being decided. The main objective of seeding is to have outstanding wrestlers separated in the brackets so that they will not meet each other until the finals. Seeding shall be based upon the wrestler's proven ability and not upon the desire for unwarranted advantage. That should mean common sense in seeding should take over in some cases if several of the coaches involved can vouch for how good a wrestler is despite not meeting the early criteria. However, in reality this is a very subjective argument and obviously the coaches don't want to yield a seed only based on subjective observations. So unless it is a very special wrestler with major recognition I wouldn't expect more than a lower seed due to that IHSAA "suggestion."
  21. Well a quick trip to track helped me a little. Missed it the first run through but it was Rooks over #14 Finger Lowell by fall at Al Smith. Heck of a event for little Rooks.
  22. Let's not forget that just this past Wednesday #10 Curtis Yorktown just beat #6 Mills Brownsburg 4-2 At Mooresville. Mills over #13 Walendzak Cathedral by fall earlier in the event. #8 little Rooks Columbus East over both #4 DeMein Northwood by fall and #3 Cavaunagh Penn 8-3 at Al Smith.
  23. Nice win Brownsburg. That coaching staff was able to put a lot of key pieces together in a very short time. This win is more a testament to the development of several wrestlers within the program than just the studs that were already coming through it. You just can't win an event like "Team" State without the buy-in and development of those kids. Winning the Mooresville tournament by a solid margin showed your team had some real potential, but The Bulldogs proved today how deep their lineup really is. Way to knock off not only the top ranked team in the state, but one of the top 25 ranked teams in the nation.
