  1. Coldwater (OH) High School is located on the Indiana / Ohio border approximately 30 minutes from Jay County, IN. We are hosting 3 separate wrestling camps this spring / summer: Saturday May 4th - Remy Cotton - Michigan State University Saturday June 15th - Pablo Castro IV and Blake Schaffer - Kent State University Friday June 28th - Gavin Bell - The Ohio State University Cost is $20 per camp or sign up for all three camps and cost is $50. 2. Elite Athletic Club is currently building for NHSCA Virginia Beach National Duals 2024 - E.A.C. High School Team Has made the top 32 two years running and this year we plan to break the top 8! See Flyer for details, or Text 219-841-1906 www.EliteAthleticClub.net
  3. Rumor is that Roger Goodell wants to move the super bowl to presidents day weekend. This has been the same weekend as the state finals. Dear Indianapolis, DO NOT HOST THE SUPERBOWL. Also this makes for a very eventful weekend. Thoughts?
  4. Here are the Team State Leaderboards through Sectional. I wrote in another thread. Two of us that do a lot of this are traveling and we're behind. About half of these scores have only been tallied by one person and have not been cross-checked for correctness. We will be much more "official" after regional. Also, these enrollment numbers are Department of Education numbers. They will remain unofficial until state finals weekend. If the IHSAA does its biannual enrollment/classification release by the state finals, we will use that data instead. If not, these numbers will stand because we are at the end of the 2-year cycle, and we want to use up-to-date data. Remember, in 1A these scores already matter very significantly because it's much tougher to score from here on out in that class. In 2A, scores mean something now, but teams with many kids left can still make big jumps. Scores after sectional for 4A and 3A mean virtually nothing. You need most of your team to semi-state to get one of the automatic 8 spots in 3A, and you need most of your team to the ticket round and state for one of the 6 auto bids in 4A. Here's a file with a Leaderboard tab and a Classification/Enrollment tab: Team State Classification & Leaderboard 2024.xlsx Or, you can simply click a few times to zoom in this image on most formats and the leaderboards and enrollment numbers are both there.
  5. Mishawaka royalty made a surprise appearance at RTC tonight. State champion & University of Michigan wrestler Joseph Walker, state runner-up & Michigan commit Zar Walker, and West Liberty’s Christian Chavez were all back in the room! Excited to get some of our college alumni back in Mishawaka this summer
  6. It's difficult to compare domestic match ups with international match ups given familiarity etc. And that Amine result is a bit of an anomaly because Yazdani was injured. But fair enough. I probably got a bit too carried away though still stand by the fact I think healthy Yaz techs everyone in the US below DT and Brooks. Hopefully we see the best Yazdani and the best Brooks (and everyone else) and the rest will take care of itself. The US team looks weaker than I can remember for a long time but I am sure you will find a way to beat us anyway lol
  7. In Arizona, the girl had to petition the state to allow her to compete in the boys state tournament. With the skill rapidly increasing i doubt we'll see much of it since the competition will level out pretty soon.
  8. To keep the female side of the sport progressing and growing the girls will need mat time. In certain areas of the state there are going to be a limited number of girls at certain weight classes to compete against. Similarly for certain teams there will be a limited number of coaching availability to travel to meets. If those issue create a lack of mat time I feel we may see a situation where some girls decide to quite, team sizes drop which further perpetuates the issue, and some schools decided it’s easier to just focus on the boys side of things. Due to those concerns I wouldn’t mind the IHSAA allowing female wrestlers at least have the option to also compete against boys at JV events for the next few years while still remaining eligible for the girls post season event. Now I mention the boys JV not a slight toward the girls ability (as some have shown they can hang at the boys varsity level), but rather an opportunity for the IHSAA to allow female wrestlers to gain mat time without it creating some questions or confusion on how to handle boys varsity records relate to sectional criteria or impacting boys varsity dual results. This seems like a reasonable compromise that i wouldn’t mind the IHSWCA perusing before we get to close to the season for the IHSAA to want to listen this logic and then after year this year be to set in their ways to want to adjust later. If numbers continue to grow and enough competition exists in a few years then I’d be fine splitting things permanently, but I’m not sure we are there yet if we want get these young ladies enough mat time to improve and feel that this grueling sport is worth continuing with. I get we should see some continues growth next season, but if you look at girls regionals this year a few things stand out: The lack of entries at certain weights at some of the girls regional, the total matches some girls had a these regionals, and the idea that some girls wrestled over 1/3 of their matches against the same single opponent during the season. Then notice that at a regional level where some teams there would be over an hour away from each other during the season. I have no problem with the IHSAA deciding to take a chance a girls wrestling, but provide some opportunity where the female can gain mat experience while the sport is grow to a sustainable level in all weight classes and in all areas. I’m just not sure we are there yet if a full split occurs and they don’t allow e the option for girls to at least pursue in season match the boys JV level.
  9. Those aren't random matches. They're all the matches involving a matchup between Taylor, Yazdani, Brooks, Valencia, and Amine since 2022. I didn't leave any out from that time, so they're not random. I included Amine and I keep mentioning Amine because he's exactly the same level as Kurugliev (1-3, 3-2, 1-2 last two seasons) and because a guy like Valencia beats Amine just as badly as Yazdani. I wrote out the scores so we can take away bias and see that past scores would clearly predict not only a very tight match between Brooks and Yazdani--but also not 10-0 results very often between Yazdani and the other guys Brooks wrestled at US Trials. Not believing the young, improving guy can beat a healthy Yazdani is like if I didn't believe Massoumi could give Steveson a very good match and possibly beat him--just because Massoumi is the new guy. The evidence is there and he looks fantastic. I think Steveson would beat him, but the results are there to say it would be a great match. Anyway, I didn't mean to get so far into this topic. I love watching Yazdani. He is a great champion, and I mention my admiration of him to Iranians I meet any chance I get. If Brooks doesn't win, I hope it will be Yazdani in Paris. Peace, brother
  10. As an emerging sport that was the option we had as coaches. We may not get clarification until the winter bulletin since girls state will be managed by the IHSAA now.
  11. Mason Parris, Sarah Hildebrandt and Kayla Miracle all make the U.S. Olympic team. Great job gentleman and ladies. A few other Indiana natives also has a solid showing at the Olympic trials.
  12. There was a couple of years in the 80's when a tech scored 6 team points just like a pin. That was when there was also a Superior decision for a difference of 12 or more points. So, decisions counted 3, majors counted 4 and superiors counted 5. They had to make a tech worth more than a superior, but they didn't want to increase the points for a pin.
  13. Come learn and wrestle live before ISWA Freestyle and Greco State!

March 27 - Chad Red, Jr. • 4x Undefeated Indiana State Champion • 3x All-American For University of Nebraska • Current Assistant Coach at Indiana University April 3 - NO RTC - SPRING BREAK April 10 - Jake Sueflohn • Assistant Coach at Purdue University • 4x NCAA Qualifier For University of Nebraska • 2x Wisconsin State Champion April 17 - Alec White • Indiana State Champion • Varsity 149 For Purdue University
  15. I coached their stud coach Jake Oniel in high school. Dude had some hips. Also might have coached his assistants Riley Mcclurg state champ and Chico Adams 2xer:)And yes I know the kids well. Except Waylon. I’m so excited to talk to this young man. Awesome on the mat and off the mat. everyone get here tonight and scrap.
  16. Franklin RTC Wednesday. Excited to have: Waylon Cressell Warren Central 2x state champ IHSAA State Champion NDHSAA State Champion 2X Fargo All American Marion Co Champ, MIC Champ, Sectional, Regional and Semi State Champ, Rumble on the Red Champ its state week. Let’s be deep and get after. Lots of live. East side bringing a crew.
  17. In the sequence they happened: Taylor over Valencia, 4-2 (when fresh...and 10-0 in match 2 an hour later) Taylor over Yazdani, 7-1 Valencia over Amine, 6-0 Taylor over Brooks, 4-0 & 5-4 Yazdani over Amine, 7-2 Taylor over Yazdani by fall after leading 9-3 Brooks over Mirasola 11-5, Dieringer 8-4, Valencia 7-6 Brooks over Taylor 4-1, 3-1 Then Yazdani 10-0 in 3 or 4 minutes over the phenom Mirasola & Dieringer?? ...and Kurugliev over Brooks?? Come on. Kurugliev has been a 1 or 2-pt match with Amine the last three times in 2 years, with Amine winning one. I think you didn't watch the U.S. Trials matches. Dieringer has fully adjusted to 86kg, weight-wise now. He and the super dynamic young Mirasola would be clear favorites over Amine, for example. We know the American-born Amine very well in the U.S. No American would put their money on him over Brooks, Valencia, Dieringer, or Mirasola. Look at the scores above!! You're way over-valuing the imaginary separation between Taylor and Yazdani and the top guys that can't compete at worlds because of the 1-country limit. If Yazdani is healthy, he deserves to be considered the Olympic favorite. Brooks is inexperienced, and I admit he could make a naive mistake and lose a match to someone other than Yazdani. But he has evolved into a monster that you're way undervaluing. If he's wrestling smart at the Olympics, Yazdani is the only one capable of beating him.
  18. I am torn as the three points at the high school level may not change the wrestling so much. Defensive wrestlers are still going to wait and try to capitalize on the active wrestler taking the risks to score three points. It will hopefully change the wrestling in the long term to focus on shooting. It will definitely create more separation between top tier wrestlers and those that are middling. Will not be able to wrestle defensively and expect to win against the top kids in the state. Maybe it pushes the middle kids to open up. Will be interesting to watch.
  19. One small devil's advocate counterpoint to the idea that a tech is now too easy: Making techs and majors easier moves team scoring closer to representing actual difficulty of earning each type of win. Pins have always been rightfully worth more team points than a tech. However, tech falls have always been much better indicators of the superior wrestler. Upsets by tech don't exist. Rematch victories by someone who previously got teched are very, very rare. However, pins can happen in a variety of circumstances and are not always earned by the season-long best wrestler. What we saw in college was that tech falls were way up, but that a rematch could be a good match despite the first match having been a tech. This was not the case before. Related...close duals will now have points more accurately assigned to the deserving team. Before, a team could have 3 dominant wins totalling only 9 or 10 team points, while their opponent had 3 close wins but also got 9 points. Now, those dominant wins can rightfully be 12 or 13 points compared to the 9 for the close wins.
  20. Perry Meridian is proud to announce that Indiana’s 4 Timer CJ Red & IU Asst Coach will be leading our RTC on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. C.J. Red, Assistant IU Coach The 2023-24 season marks C.J. Red's second on the Indiana Wrestling coaching staff. In year one, Red helped Indiana's program make big strides. The Hoosiers' 8-5 record in 2022-23 was the team's best since 2016-17, that included three Big Ten wins and three ranked victories, as well. Red provided valuable experience of wrestling at the highest stage and in recent time, after just finishing his collegiate career in March 2022. He worked closely with Indiana's light and middleweights and helped push Graham Rooks (149 lbs.) to have the best season for an Indiana wrestler since 2017. Rooks went 29-11 and reached the Round of 12 at his third career NCAA Championships. This was the furthest an Indiana Wrestler had gone in the tournament since 2017 when Nate Jackson got eighth place at 184 lbs. Rooks also finished in fifth place at the Big Ten Championships.Red, an Indiana native, returns to his home state after completing his highly successful collegiate wrestling career at Nebraska this past spring. At Nebraska, Red was a standout in the lineup at 141 lbs. throughout his entire career from 2016-2022. Red was a three-time NCAA All-American ––– earning sixth place at the 2021 NCAA Championships, as well as eighth place in 2019 and seventh place in 2018. In total, he was a five-time NCAA Championships qualifier from 2018-2022. Additionally, Red earned multiple podium finishes at the Big Ten Championships over the years. He finished in second place in 2019, third in 2020, fourth in 2021 and seventh place in 2018. For his Cornhusker career, Red had a 98-46 overall record and a 39-20 dual record. He won 22 bouts via fall with five tech falls and nine major decisions to his name. The move to the Indiana coaching staff is Red’s first coaching role in his professional career. Prior to competing at Nebraska, Red had a legendary high school wrestling career. He attended New Palestine High School where he wrestled for coach Chad Red Sr. Red went 183-0 in his prep days, including being a four-time state champion. He was deemed the top 132-pounder in the country according to the Asics FloRankings in the class of 2016. He won the 2015 FloNationals crown, was the 2014 Super 32 champion and 2014 Fargo Junior Cadet Nationals champion, all at 126-lbs. Enter PMHS main entrance (Door No, 1) and proceed to the wrestling room. Come get better and learn from the best.
  21. Alrighty, I've waited all season for this, let's hear your predictions! I'll start, all in particular order. 106: Boyd, Moore, Ocampo, Fleshman Moore is looking really strong this year, I think he'll get Ocampo in a rematch! I am also gonna go out and say that Mora from Oak Hill may have a shot against Fleshman. 113: Bollinger, May, Salazar, Cooper May and Johns in the ticket round is gonna be a total barn-burner, and I'm excited to see a rematch between Bollinger and May! Not to mention that Hinkel and McIntyre are getting a rematch after a controversial call in the first round last year! 120: Korrect, Tishner, Raber, Douglas Tishner and Korrect tore the house down in the regional finals, with some close calls that could have sealed the deal for the match. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Korrect gets Tishner in a rematch. 126: Mosier, Rowles, Waldon, Love 132: Fielden, Lisner, Bradley, Stuffel 138: Wood, Carter, Dews, Chambers 144: Invested 150: Hagewood, Tuesch, Galvin, Jett Tuesch and Riddle in the ticket round, ouch. They are currently 1-1 against each other, I'm curious as to what may be the deciding factor here. Elkins and Galvin is also going to be interesting, I wouldn't be surprised to see this match go either way. 157: Betz, Warnock, Davis, Russell 165: Invested 175: Leech, Farnell, Russell, Detwiler Farnell is on a hot streak here, him and Russell are going to have a close match! 190: Cressell, Blair, Daring, Currie 215: Hinton, Henke, Martin, Duffy I'm curious about how Martin will do against Hinton. A decision against the returning state champ from Crown Point is something that can't be ignored. 285: Hartleroad, Cruz, Coolman, Hillman-Conley Lots of barn-burners in the ticket round here! Hillman-Conley and Dodson will be good, and Wurm vs Hartleroad may be close as well. Now remember, these are just PREDICTIONS! Hopefully no generic pot-stirrers get upset because I don't have their favorites making it out. I'm pumped to see who makes it out of these brackets!
  22. In the last two days I have received at least 4 requests for a girls wrestling coach. It seems that the word has been out about this change and schools are looking to add to their coaching staff. When I asked about this at state this year, I was told that the girls that started off wrestling in the boy's tournament would be allowed to continue, but that all from this point forward would only be allowed in the girl's tournament. I do not know how accurate that is, just what I was told.
  23. Super super pumped for our young ladies! any idea when we’ll get info for scheduling requirements (number of duals vs tourneys, etc;) or state tourney info? Wanna ensure I have enough staff and am scheduling our girls against the correct competition to prepare them for their state series. Related: I need more assistant coaches! Hit me up!
  24. As for the Super Bowl, absolutely fine with me. Currently I have President's Day off but curious to see if that remains, especially if Goodell gets it accomplished. I'm good having wrestling state finals Friday & Saturday and then probably a youth wrestling tournament Sunday morning to afternoon followed up by a Super Bowl party that night. Definitely need that extra day of rest. Is that also the Daytona 500 time line too? Might catch the end before the Super Bowl.
  25. Currently have a few coaching opportunities available for the upcoming season. This could be an opportunity for a Ball State student to get a start in coaching. Please reach out if interested. dbaysinger@daleville.k12.in.us
