  1. There is a perfect venue in the Region for it but it's in a far from perfect location. The Gary Genisis center had the seating and he facilities. Really pretty nice. It's just that whole security thing but it's not all that far from mville. If they had upgraded security it would be very good. It is bigger than the civic c enter and I think mville hs is bigger than the ARC at VU. Rumors of a large convention center coming to either Crown Point or Hobart have been heard which would be connected to a hotel so we shall see.
  2. Elgi vs black now on Friday night. Ugh that is horrible.
  3. Would that background story have anything to do with Ramos's cousin being an Assistant Coach at Hobart & wrestled for Portage under the lights? Haha. Yeah. He said he would see Leroy at fitness barn and talk some smack purposely to make Leroy come out angry and make it very tough on Alex. Meanwhile Ramos had no idea haha. It worked. It made Leroy beat him up a but and made Alex grow up fast and become tough. Ahh the good ol Hobart Portage rivalry. Soo much bad blood. I miss that. There is still people that would boo Ed and Tharp if they saw them in a church.
  4. Can't leave that kid an opening. Brendan was once again winning the match. I have to give it to reitz. The way Black rode him and worked him over for a period and a half and for him to recover and get the fall was crazy. These two are tough as nails. 3 more meetings coming up. Fun matches. Or wars I should say.
  5. I think before Bradbury Ramos Ramos as a Freshman vs Senior Leroy Vega series was instrumental in evolving Ramos to the level he got to . It was one sided. Leroy dominated but I believe 5 of Ramos 8 career losses came to Leroy. He lost to a kid from jimtown and a loss to Penn kid ticket round on a slam I believe. Other than that only a loss to Richardson pm in quarters at state as a soph being his only blemishes. But I think he would say that rivalry or series anyway with Leroy had a lot to do with his dominance there after.
  6. Well Black has missed Harvest classic and Al smith with sickness so it's good to see him so sharp with so little mat time this season.
  7. I didn't see the match but I have seen both kids. To me the thing people have to remember is Reitz being a champ last year at 106 but coming up 2 classes is a big deal if his body isn't used to it. We have seen this before. That in no way means he won't be right in the mix at 120 because he is great. People just need to remember you start really getting into some strong kids especially ones that probably cut 8 or 9 pounds to get there as opposed to a kid working his way up to that weight. I think we could have our next great region rivalry built after yesterday. Should be fun!
  8. http://www.team1sports.com/index.php/videoPlayer/view?broadcast=95671 It isn't pretty....but I found one..follow along on Track is my suggestion
  9. Does anyone know if this year either Mishawaka HS will be streaming or Broadcastsprt.net? I can't make it out there and watching green guy v.s red guy on Track just isn't the same. I know years past they have had cameras rolling all day... Anyone??
  10. The stomach flu has ran through the hobart wrestling room the past 2 weeks. I think Triana, Black and 2 or 3 others are out today. A few others are just over it so it'll be interesting to see how much gogo they have.
  11. Did we learn nothing from Vision Quest????? Besides wearing a polo shirt under a singlet??
  12. I don't even sleep on my back anymore..thanks for the nickname too btw hahaha
  13. xBrick132..Think it was Beta..at any rate.. Our group that you coached(and you were a GREAT coach) cut our teeth on you Cox, and Hines along with many others in the early/mid 80's..Certainly you guys were the ones to bring Hobart wrestling up a tier. Thank You.
  14. The small state class at Fargo was intense last year.. Those Rhode Island kids brought it and dominated 1A last year there..Just stinks that Indiana has 500,000 more people than Missouri We could have really contended for that 2A title... then we would have shown the country that we have arrived...I mean we can't compete with Illinois, Penns., Ohio and Michigan..They have waay more kids. So if we can drop to 2A nationally and win it ...then that will in turn grow the sport in Indiana even more because now more kids in rural Indiana who can barely support the cost of purchasing a mat and the stipend for the wrestling coach that never wrestled and wears cowboy boots to practice..man they will flock to the wrestling rooms that there schools don't even have yet..and totally change the culture of the town..Folks that won't drive the 15 miles to a Friday night football game or basketball game will suddenly find themselves getting in their cars and driving to see this new sport of wrestling that they were just introduced to by the wild popularity of Indiana being the best 2A wrestling state in the Nation.
  15. Dan Butler Hobart 94' 2x ticket round upset favorite. Senior year he was like 31-0 and ranked number 1 in the state.
  16. I hate the word Epic but Hummel v.s. Gelen might just be that..and I don't know who would win..but I also wouldn't bet that Hummel couldn't toss Gelen..not saying he would but Hummel was explosive. I think he tossed Andy Schnieder(?)hwt champ once then did a power laydown 2nd time. I could be misremembering 20 yrs..geez I'm old.
  17. I had to eat/drink before weigh-ins so i weighed above 152 so I could wrestle 171. It was a nightmare Jr. year for me and an absolute confidence crusher. The difference between being a strong 152 lb and a strong 152lber wrestling 171 was a lot more difficult than I had ever imagined. The hardest part for me was sprawling on a shot..I couldn't believe how easily I was able to be sucked in at times. Losing to guys you beat the year before because of no other reason than they grew into the next weight and I didn't but I had some good wrestlers in front of me was very humbling. But you do what you can for the team.. I had a sub .500 record then placed top 6 in ISWA state at 154..Guys would ask me why would you cut for freestyle? I'm like I didn'..I am wrestling my weight now. I got pinned a lot..I mean a lot..20 lbs makes a bigger difference than I thought it would so I was always amazed at the guys like Damon Hummel who weighed like 200 and launched GOOD not slouches but GOOD 260 or 270lbers.
  18. I hope that this is what we take away from Brendan Blacks season not some of the other stuff that happened on the message board as well as the getting in as an alternate, and a first rnd fft. I think we all saw how good Forrest was this weekend so no shame in losing to him..and he got drilled in the same headlock that Sinko did..Spladles and Headlocks Mater Dei kids can always put you on your back..But after all of the nonsense and what not it comes down to a kid being a sportsman and that is what Hobart kids do..They do it the right way. I think a lot of people have learned some lessons and are going to be better for it. Hobart has a bright future..If we could just get Covaciu to move back..ooh man! haha! Good job BB..good wrestler better kid.
  19. I dunno. I like a good back flip..I remember in early 90's a Northrop kid doing a series of flips all the way across the mats. I just don't think it's gloating..unless it is. I think Gelen is a great example as a human being and a winner but I don't think for 2 years now he even THOUGHT he wouldn't win the title. He was reserved as always. I like the kids who maybe it seems like an upset or they have fallen short several times and then get it..Go crazy! My favorite part is when they jump into their coaches arms..go celebrate with coach!..I will say that it seems more genuine the first time they win it and celebrate then number 2 or 3 but I don't know what it feels like. Not much of a showboater myself but I was never good enough to be one. Act like you have been there before...I never have so I don't know what that means but I like human emotion. It's a State title not a TD in any given football game..Be gracious..and go nuts.
  20. Great rivalary..The 2 became great friends as well. Andrew had like 6 losses to Ramos much the same as Ramos having 8 career losses 5 coming to Leroy Vega when Ramos was a Froshman and Vega a Senior..and Ramos was in a ticket round upset his freshman year as he was domination Sr. Britton from Penn and got drilled with a desperation headlock with under 20 seconds left in 3rd..Ramos scrambled for a reversal and an apparent win but after discussion was waived off and lost by a point..otherwise Ramos is likely a 4 time place winner..draw depending certainly.
  21. What happened? I was watching it on Track..Black was up late in the 2nd..then next thing I knew he was down 9-4..I assume Gaige got an escape and takedown with back pts..but how'd it happen..looked like a good match up until that pt.
  22. I get it Coach..Proud of you guys efforts. Keep up the good work!
