I felt the stall calls were very inconsistent. Not only in the finals but in the whole tournament. In my opinion not only were the stall calls inconsistent but the wrestling on the edge. You had some refs that as soon as a toe touched out of bounds, the whistle would blow, then you had other refs that would allow the wrestler to drag his very last pink toe! I did think that the fleeing the mat calls were on point! Reffing is a tough job, I will admit that, but if your at the STATE FINALS, and you have TWO refs, theirs no reason why you should be missing anything...Just my opinion though.
Theirs usually a few upsets and surprises by those wrestlers who are peaking at the right time for the tournament! Lets hear who you think some of the dark horses are.
"No disrespect, but pretty much any Merrillville SS 4th over any Fortwayne SS 1st. Just much better competition coming out of Merrillville."
wow, no respect for the Ft SS at all. I sure hope your wrong pal! Good luck to all participating in this weekends state tournament.
Look back to even some of the great Indiana wrestlers careers like Alex Tsirtsis, even he struggled on bottom his first couple years of college. He was dominate on his feet no doubt, but really never focused on riding, he was barely (or never) taken down, so he never had to worry about getting away in high school. Who knows maybe if we had riding time in high school it could help those wrestlers who plan on wrestling in college. Just my $.02 though.
I think its a great idea, def helps you get ready for college riding and having that sense of urgency to get out or ride someone out. But I too don't think it will ever happen in high school.
Ben Stehura: (day after season ended) "Guys I know its out of season now, BUT rule number 1 still applies, DONT GET ARRESTED."
Trent Goodale: "It?s not the body you have to convince, it?s the mind. The body is capable of doing anything the mind tells it.?
There have been (and are) 4 of us boys in my family wrestle, and each year the younger one does better then the one before him did, and its still going till this day with the youngest. So I'd say the youngest is usually going to better. He gets to learn from his older brothers. Lucky him ;D
Thanks "ontherise"
Yea, its crazy to see how back and forth wrestlers go, and who turns it up whens it go time, and who doesn't. Good match for sure in the finals though.
