  1. But isn't that the argument of why we shouldn't send JV to varsity tourney?

If the 1a, 2a, 3a schools don't have a full lineup, I'm sure losing to MD's JV isn't something attractive to the athletic football kid who is on the fence about wrestling or not.

The only team that benefits from sending JV to varsity would be the programs in the top 10% and it comes at the cost of the middle/lower class of our state's programs.

That is one of the issues we see, non-wrestling athletes are already concerned about not being good at it when you convince them to come out, then thay lose to a JV and it becomes a real struggle to keep them long enough to get them confident.

  2. It actually annotates a Q for qualified weigh-in.  I have a kid who was at 126 went up to 132 then was trying to go back down, exceeded the 1.5% and did not get a Q annotation for that weigh in.  He already has 6 qualified weigh ins at 126.

I'm pretty sure that the program we enter the weight into is only looking for you being at or above the minimum weight as stated on your alpha weigh in. So as long as you are above that weight it's qualifying according to the program even though it might not be according to the rule.
So if your minimum weight is 125, and you go 125.4, 130, then back to 125.9 I think they would all be qualifying according to the program because I don't think it takes the 1.5%into account, it just looks for you being above that minimum weight. Anyone know if I'm correct or not on that?

  3. Jim Binkley or "Bink" has been a constant with New Albany wrestling since the early 1960's.   He placed 2nd in the state tournament in 1963 and wrestled at IU.  If you have ever seen a New Albany wrestler since the 1970's Bink was most likely in their corner starting as an assistant coach with Phil Thrasher, then head coach in 1995, and after retiring he came back as an assistant coach again with Eric Burres in 2005.

He is in his 70's now, loves the sport, and still looks like he could walk out on the mat for a match.

  4. Well, from what I have read from the emails from ISHAA.  People with under 6 qualifying weigh-ins can still wrestle, but cannot be seeded ahead of wrestlers with 6 qualifying weigh-ins (New Alpha Sheet).  This means if someone that would have been a 2nd seed is in a pigtail with a true 1 seed it could be interesting!

    Is this posted somewhere?
