  1. Just to be clear. A team can have a wrestler who lives in any community or county, just as long as he or she attends the club of which he or she is wrestling for (on a regular basis)? I am still confused on the new and last minute guidelines. Any clarification will be appriciated. Thanks
  2. Coach, I was not there. I was told that it was a great event. Thank you for hosting our club. The word is that Perry's team was awesome and reloaded. Hopefully, we will give you a better match next time. I was told that Avon got Third. We look forward to seeing many of these team this weekend at Columbus. Thanks for all you do for wrestling in our state. Coach Brewer
  3. It was a dominating preformance for sure. They represented our state with class. The little guys did awesome also, taking third. Thanks, to all parents, coaches, and Brandi Cash for a good experience. I hope that everyone made it home safely.
  4. We would like to thank the Irish and all other clubs that attended, for a great meet this past weekend. There were many (I would say around 20) ISWA and Ohio state champs in attendence. Action was kept moving all day. The sportsmanship was great all day, and all clubs and families were a pleasure to be around. The exhibition room was awesome. We got a lot of matches in, for a lot of kids. Win or lose this tourney is what youth wrestling is all about. We look forward to next year. Good luck to the seven AWC wrestlers that are attending the Border Wars X-mas duels this next weekend, and to those that will be at Perry next weekend also.
  5. This is a very well ran event. We have been the last 3 or 4 years. Always well worth it! We look forward to this every year. A club will not be disappointed if they decide to attend.
  6. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, there will be no westside live this week. We will see you next Wednesday, December 1st.
  7. All star football is now over. All AWC wrestlers will be in attendance from this wednesday forward. We look forward to having some of the best wrestlers in Central Indiana in our room.
  8. You can always go to the website at www.avonwrestling.org to view the schedule for live nights!
  9. We have a very tough group of youth wrestlers here in Hendricks County. We will be holding this live night, for the whole season. I hope to see you all here, to push each other! Live nights will be overseen by the youth staff, former Purdue All American and Avon Head Coach Israel Blevins, and former Indiana University wrestler John McClain! See you all Wednesday at Avon High School (the home of the 2011 ISWA Freestyle State Championships!).
  10. Look forward to seeing new and old faces and wrestling families.
  11. Would not think of it. He is too big!!! Just a hint.
  12. We have gotten a lot of positive feedback from this post. We look forward to providing a competitive atmosphere for our advanced wrestlers, and a good base for our beginners. Hope to see a good turn out on the 26th! We also look forward to becoming a more visable club within ISWA by again hosting a beginners tourney, along with another huge tourney towards the end of the season (In May). No more pig Barn!
  13. The Avon Wrestling Club will be holding sign ups on TUESDAY October 26th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm @ the Avon High School Cafeteria. 14. Perhaps this would work: A two day event. Day one would be for community based teams (made up of kids that reside in a township or a group of townships which would feed into the same High School). I would like to see a three kid allowence (like disney AAU) from other school districts to fill out teams, and allow kids that commute from communities which do not have programs to wrestle with their teammates and friends. Day two would be an all-star day. Bring your stud teams from all over (any kid from any schools district or township). Having two days would allow studs to represent their community club, as well as their year round (elite) club or team. Any thoughts of what you would like to see Chris? I am guessing that you would like to hold this event? Events at Franklin are always awesome.
  15. Food for thought: 1. Where would parochial clubs that draw from a wide area fall? 2. Would community mean that the boys must reside in the same township or a group of townships which feed into the same high school? 3. What if a boy attends a parochial school but lives in a community (township) where there is a club? Would he be allowed to wrestle for his community club if he were not attending a community school? All would have to be addressed when outlining divisions.
  16. There are 9 or 10 Avon kids that attend Contenders. They do come to our room for extra mat time, and are always welcome. They have been asked to join us in duels, if spots were open in the past. This year, all boys will be asked to pay the club fee (minus card fee) and to come when possible to help their community club, to participate in duels. No one should have a problem with having paying club members who live in and around the community being on a team (regardless of where else they train). With this said, my son has attended Contenders in the past and we go visit those guys as much as posssible. It is a great club. We are very lucky to have a top 5 club in the nation in our county. These boys should not be left out of the duel meet experience. To the question "You really think it would be fair for your club to go against the contenders or red cobra?". We would lose for sure, but these kids should be able to have the experience. What does a kid from a town like say Pittsboro do? They have no club. Is he left out? We have to open spots on teams for these kids. It is not about winning and losing, it is about mat time and growing the sport.
  17. I coach youth football also. With border wars football you have to get a verification for each student, from the school he or she attends. No player from outside of the community allowed. This works great with a sport like footaball where as almost all communities have football leagues. However, not all communities have wrestling clubs. If a wrestler happens to live in a community without a club, then he or she would not be able to particapate? That is not going to help grow the sport. I would like to see the majority of kids come from the community as where the club is based. However (like with the Disney duels), it would be nice to have a two or three wrestler allowance from outside of the school district. This will alllow more wrestlers to participate, and for teams to fill holes. With all of that said we could fill a team at our club, but many could not. Wrestlers without a home town club should be allowed this experience. Great topic! I would like to see this get off the ground.
  18. Chris , Matt Brewer with Avon Wrestling club here. I think this is an awesome idea. Our club has been participating in duals for the last 4 or 5 years. It is a great format. It allows the boys to be a part of a team. Parents love it, because it allows them to root on kids from the club while they wait for their kids turn to go (makes spending all day in the gym easier to handle). We start our dual meet season in November. We plan on doing as many duals as possible this year. Our club usually takes care of the fee. This allows the boys to get some good matches early for free! With this said, what will be the age cut off and weight classes? Here in Avon, our sixth graders do not attend middle School. Will sixth grade be the cut off? Many tourneys do sixth grade and under, but can not be schoolboy. Some others do fifth grade and under only. Next, What will be the weight classes? Finally, Will it be kids in your community only? Is there a limit of kids allowed from outside of the school district? Will there be all star teams? I think that these will be the biggest issues. All in all, an awsome idea, we will suport the cause. We look forward to the upcoming season. For Hendricks County boys: We would love to have you this year. Please check the website in October, for sign up dates and times. Thanks, Matt Brewer www.avonwrestling.net
  19. Nathan Walton from Pittsboro did it last year as an Intermediate.
  20. I have a son who had the good fortune to attend the Elementary duals in Kingsport, TN this year. This is an event which takes a similar commitment. It was an awesome experience. It was 7.5 hours from Indy and there were 4 very good teams from Indiana (I do realize that this was a folkstyle event). Tennesee had just one team, who was not up to par. In the back of my mind I was thinking "Really?! This is not how a host state should be represented. " I do realize that the Schoolboy teams are made up of the top two finishers in each weight class, and many do not accept this honor for many reasons. Which is understandable. With the little guys, many boys were unable to make the trip also. We has a team mom who was really on top of things and did everything in her power to fill our teams (thanks Brandi!). Perhaps that the team leadership could appoint one person whos sole commitment would be to fill the teams. Again, please don't take this the wrong way just a suggestion to help. I know a lot of effort was put into all teams from many people. As far as cost, we at our club have a provision within our by laws which allows assistance to any boy who has the honor of attending such an event. I do realize that not all clubs have the funds to do so, but the ones that do could step up or at the very least help the boys raise funds. Or perhaps the boys who commit early for the team could do a fundraiser to help lower cost for themselves. As a parent of an younger wrestler, I would love to see as many opprotunities for my son to remain open, and for the duels to stay local. I am sure with all the great volunteers and clubs which we have here in Indiana, that we can keep this going. Good luck to all of the boys today!
  21. For sure! Quinn would have loved to wrestle this weekend. He would have been a great host! I know that his dad has not told him that the spot went empty. The little dude will be crushed. Hopefully we will be able to field these teams from this point forward. Good luck to all!
  22. I love DLane's suggestion! He is a very wise man. ;D
