  1. I think Vlahos Handled himself well enough. He could have very easily gone irrate and got kicked out of the tournament. He stayed on the mat and waited granted he was aggitated but wouldn't you be. Also the move Vlahos was running from my vantage point was not in fact intended to be illegal(if it was), they teach it[the move] at a lot of clinics. it was a two on one pushing in to the chest with the wrist and requires good back arch. He has hit the move several times throughout the season, the tournament, and he hit it on our kid during the season. A key lock is more about protecting the wrist so it doesnt break. Since the injury was in the shoulder it leads me to believe willis' reaction to the move caused more pressure than intended. The Bottom Line it was Unintentional. I saw a heavy weight match today where Mcbride took a headbutt(Howe Match not the West Match) and recieved no points for it. Headbutts are illegal but it was unintential so the ref let it slide. Now here is the question I present "is it only illegal if he kid doesnt get up." I also noticed that the initial call on the mat of the valhos match was potentially dangerous, but when willis didnt get up he was given a point. This happens a lot and we need to resolve this inconsistancy. Wrestling and reacting cause bad situations it wasnt a slam and he wasnt out to break rules and hurt willis so Vlahos' loss to me seems unjustified. I dont think willis threw the match but it didnt look like there was much of an attempt to shake it off maybe if he got up tried to seee what he could or couldnt do reaction toward the kid would have been as bad. He didn't even coume to his feet till his injury time was out My belief is that the trainers had something to do with that but the perception was that the kid had no plans to return via body language.
  2. Alex Surma Munster Third at Semi-State My pick for third at state
  3. I wish we could get someone in the room like that, but like many small schools we don't get that luxury. Tom does an excellent job getting former wrestlers to come back every once in a while. You most likely confused me with him(Hicks' Older Brother) if not I have no clue who you saw. Speaking of Tom although he is "Outa shape"(his words not mine]. You don't see many people who reach a half century looking like that thus I would put him in the top three of the Old Timer (couldn't you have said veterans cause now I gotta look out cause if he sees this post I will like get the wrath of those viscous pricklies on that hard skull of his for calling im old) Middle Weights.
  4. Possible 4 over a 1 These are a hair more likely then the others. 112 Rodriegez over Boomsma Todd over Randle 119 Gregory over Fishers 125 Hicks over Raley 135 Acuna over Berryman 140 Manbu Over Beck 171 Boots over Wiseman 215 Reagan over Green Wright over Wooding Thes are picks just possibilities

  6. Riding time will cause the top man to attempt as few of turns as possible without getting call for stalling (Stalling needs to be called more frequently.). If you can't score on top, why should you get rewarded? If you can't turn the kid cut him and take him down. The best high school and college westlers are takedown oriented. Top man has a choice to go neutral bottom man doesn't. Officials have a hard enough time grasping what a takedown/reversal/escape is let alone score it in a timely manner. You prepare for college by doing offseason tuournaments and seeking out the best competion. The riding time will only change a small small proportion of matches and won't matter anyway so it wont be worth the hassle.

  8. How many state champions lose at least once throughout the year...... If that match was in the Ticket Round then what happens......... We have a different Champion....... Our Current System of allowing more than just the champion to advance is more forgiving to an individual loss. I IHSAA only cared about placing number 1 then they would short the number that advanced not extend it..... I do however see the money that is being made...... Now the question is whats more important money or quality..... I vote quality thus I vote wrestle backs

  10. I Agree exclude the injuries and disciplinaries those are unavoidable, but we can prevent some of the quality wrestlers who just get bad draws from going home a week early. The problem is year after year we have this problem and personly I cannot see a light at the end of the tunnel. ISHAA just doesn't like quality improvement. I also wanted to add that I personally saw a kid who has no business at all to be at the state finals. The kid got 4th at regionals gets an amazing draw makes it on gets dominated in the next two rounds, while the top three kids from that weight class draw numb. 1,2,and 9 in the state and they came in with a combined 3 losses. This is a mockery of our state finals. We can do better; We can have wrestle backs. My Last note, Lets make Skill and Consistancy our priority, not luck of the draw.
  11. 12. I just wanted to say, that amongst the awesome wresling at merrillville, the refs were absolutely phenomenal. Great Job Guys!!!! I encourage coaches and fans that witnessed high quality officiating to commend them through this thread.
  13. I understand where you are going with this, but I did mention that with the whole RPI talk, guess it didn't through. What I wan't to get accross is that Jordan is underrated, in my opinion. Like I said before he wins (most important stat of all), he has wrestled in every dual and every tournament. I would have to say that Tom has done a great job of improve the stregnth of schedule of the years. But wrestling is wrestling ait doesn't matter who is on the mat. The way some of you guys are making it sound as if Jake never beat a quality opponent, which is simply not true.
  14. Very Very Very good reason for wrestle backs They would have added only two match to each weight class, if they added wrestle backs at the ticket round. Instead IHSAA adds 4 matchs and let the regional fourth place in the mix. Simply idiotic IHSAA doesn't realized we complained more for wrestle backs than adding a fourth place finisher. Come to think of I never once heard anyone say "geeesh I sure wish they would let fourth plce move on past Regionals." NEVER Reason One Fourth place has little chance to make it past Round one let alone make it to state Reason Two The kid just lost twice in one day and is obviously not ready for the next level
  15. Ok I figured someone would bring this up, but Jacob had two of the worst draws D. Young(eventually 3rd place finisher and a State Champ) and Churchard(eventual State Runner Up). If you wanna go name dropping on past seeger wrestlers we can go right to Eli Cook 2xSQ who Placed fifth 2005 at 160. Valid Point but anyone who saw that match would have seen him wrestling through pain in the first period when his knee went out on him.- referring to the Muro match Well lets tell his oppenents he isn't tough because from my knowledge that same 12-5 kid, whom of which Jordan has beaten three times, only lost a 5-4 mach againt Thorton. The kid came out determined and with a gameplan though kid can push matches . He has wrestled every match and has dodged noone. He has wrestled up to get competition on several occasions. He did go out on the mat against Hanover Central when a certain 125 did not(I am not saying he was dodging), If that match happens we aren't having this conversation.
  16. This has potential #1 Napules Merr. v. Maxwell Har. Maxwell is unothodox and akward thus if he is on the mat I wouldn't count him out It only take a slap on the mat. That is if the ref doesn't overturn his call which has happened before.
  17. I just want to take a second educate you all on one of the seemingly most underlooked 125's. Jordan Hicks 11 43-0 (Seeger) No he isn't from the region and no he hasn't had the highest RPI<- (stolen from NCAA basically rating stregnth of schedule) But what he does do is win. He has around 28 falls. He placed second at regional in 2008 and 2009 losing to 3rd place finisher Alderman in 2008 and losing in OT (he had a takedown out of bound that was called out of bounds though both feet were in) to Ezra Penn. That is a pretty good High Shcool resume. Now he returns once again at 125, only this time as a Regional Champ. I look for this Former Middle School State Champ(2007 @ 117) to show everyone what he is made of with to say the least a very impressive performance. Personally, I would like to thank everyone who has been counting him out because, like the Saints, he will have a chip on his shoulder.
  18. Logansport would be much tougher if they would do something to balance out the power and get rid of that awful Twin Lakes Sectional. If you put any of the best Twin Lakes Sectional Winners Since its creation in with any other sectional of any year at best they would have gotten third. I bet 5 of those six came from the laf. Jeff Sectional.

  21. How about Jordan Hicks from seeger 38-0 at 125!!!! 2XSSQ a Junior Take a look at the Merrillville SS Rankings he is third above 7.Wisler and 8.Thornton As for "big wins" he hasn't wrestled any one on your rankings. He was suppose to wrestle Petrov, but Petrov was wrestling with a sore should and decided not to wrestle Hicks in the last match of a two day tournament. I don't blame Petrov for not wrestling to prevent injury, yet then again competition is why we do this sport. I understand if you don't Update again this Season, it can just be some food for thought when you draw up your state Prediction.
  22. Jordan Hicks from Seeger is 38-0 Now!!!!! at 125 with 25+ pins 1 or 2 more he beats my school record of 26
