I think Y2 is missing an opportunity here. As much play as Shaved Ice gets on this board, you would think he would have had the company advertising. Or at least underwriting this thread each year about State time. Come on think of the possibilities!

I heard that Myers and Larsen had wrestled at least two other times in ISWA and Larsen had won both of those matches. Someone correct me if I am wrong on this. Myers definitely the most successful wrestler to yet come out of a very strong program. So a 4th, 2 firsts, and a second is nothing to be ashamed of.

I don't think anyone would see it as a short coming for winning "only" 2 state titles, especially in a single class state. I didn't see this thread as a slam on anyone who this happened to.

It is also meant to annoy you enough that you will spend the money to be a gold member. It does annoy me, but I am glad that they let a cheapskate like me watch for free with little annoyance. They could easily make you pay to see anything.

I want to start by saying this is not an attack on the team state series. Yet we are using individual advancement to determine team success. This will never get you the best "teams" in the series. I think you will always crown the best team in the State that day! Yet it is like picking the March madness contestants for next year off of individual free throw and field goal percentages of the individual players. It will never tell you who the best teams are. Yet, unfortunately there will be teams that deserve to be there that are sitting on the sidelines. It is unfortunate, but until the IHSAA decides this tournament can be run after the individual state tourney it is what it is.

I like the idea of the conference champion thing. The problem with it is scheduling. Everyone would have to keep that one Saturday open for the Tournament even if you were not the conference champ...just in case you are the conference champ. That is what makes it tough. The present format we have reminds me of Churchill's quote on democracy "democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried." While I don't like that each years team has a shot at a title that year, what we do have is better than nothing. From what I followed it sounded like a great day of wrestling. My frustration is not at this tourney but at the IHSAA for not working to make the team state better and just pulling the plug.

I understand giving up baseball and softball as those are not sports played around the world. Access to eqipment is limited. Yet wrestling is a sport that takes very little investment from, smaller poorer countries. In Eastern Europe and Central Asia you can see kids wrestle where there is a patch of ground. Now America has the resources to train our athletes and it does point to us winning the medal count. Yet the opportunity for others countries in wrestling is far greater than baseball, softball, or in-line skating for goodness sake! how many countries are really going to be competetive in that!

I do not see a single Bellmont coach on here complaining. Actually you never read any posts by a Bellmont coach saying yea or nay. They are and have been a class act through and through. To say Bellmont does not train and just complain is a little ignorant. If you have issues with a Bellmont fan complaininng fine (yet isn't that what a discussion board is for..if and buts?) you can call them out but not the program.

I agree with family vacations, but if the family is all in for the wrestling how many take their vacation to Orlando and Fargo due to the wrestling? I would say their is a really good chance those two events eat up a lot of parents summer vacation time. I again say it is crazy to not move the moretorium date. It is a reflection of the relationship between the coaches association and the IHSAA if a simple thing like moving of dates is not possible.

One question that sticks out to me is why did you stay with the regional "Champs". If the intent is to get the best teams together why not just seed them 1-5 and if you have three from one area so be it? Not a criticism just curious as to what the thought process was.

The thing which bothers me is that the IHSAA would not look at the Disney Duals date and change the moretorium so it does not effect the duals or a wrestlers preperation for Fargo. The fact that the IHSAA does not consider this tells me they are out of touch with the wrestling community.
