  1. What year? They wrestled twice. Angel's freshman year was Macke's Junior year and they wrestled in the finals. The next year they wrestled in the semi-finals. Is the 02-03 MD team the one that lost to St. Paris Graham?
  2. Is this a individual tournament? Does it have full wrestlebacks?
  3. I'm new to this discussion so I don't know all the previous ideas that did not get approved. In my opinion the current setup is probably the most pragmatic way to approach this tourney, especially in its inaugural year. I'm glad the ihswca is holding this tourney and I hope it succeeds and is continued in one form or another. I would make the following changes for future tourneys, all of which I believe can be implemented fairly easily. 1. Invite sixteen teams in each class. These teams would be chosen prior to the season starting as they were this year. 2. At some point during the actual season (the later the better) eight of those sixteen would be chosen to compete for the championship. Some BCS type system could be used to pick which eight get invited. (I'll admit this part is the part that would have the most controversy associated with it.) 3. The top eight from each class go to the championships at the same site as is being done this year. 4. The bottom eight each go to a different site and have a classed eight team dual (format does not matter, pool play, etc. Teams currently do this type of tourney all the time.) 5. The bottom eight classes could be at the same site, or each class could be at its own site. The logistics of this should not be difficult. It would require one site to hold 24 teams (the championship), and three sites to hold 8 teams each. The sites would be predetermined. 6. Move the tourney to two weeks before sectional. I believe these changes would eliminate any concerns over schedule points and would also provide flexibility in correctly picking the best eight teams in each class for the championship.
  4. What teams are in this year's Bo Henry Classic?
  5. I like the idea of rewarding a dominant rider, or perhaps I like the idea of punishing a kid that can't get out on bottom. Either way I wish high school had riding time. I understand the college riding time rule is not feasible for high school as timekeepers can barely handle one clock that only ticks down. I can't imagine the chaos of having to keep track of two clocks, with one of them ticking up and down. I propose a simple riding time rule. Ride a kid the entire period and you get a point. Thats it. If the other kid chooses down and can't get out the rider gets a point. The kids that man up and choose top get a point if they ride the whole period. Thoughts?
  6. My first visit to the Ford Center. First the food is a huge improvement over normal high school wrestling cuisine options so the added bucks don't bother me one bit. Parking is more agravating then Roberts but its not a big problem. The LCD's were actually a source of aggrevation for me. I prefer the print0uts. The problem is wrestling is non-stop all day so I don't want to wait for the LCD to scroll to the matches I missed. With the printouts I could quickly run to the wall and write down the 5 or 6 matches I missed. I agree that using the scoreboard to scroll though the results would be a great idea and would solve the problem I had; that being I would not have to leave my seat while wrestling is going on to see the results. I think during the anthem a spotlight should be on the flag. Also, why is there a Canadian flag in the Ford Center? The only real difference I noticed between Ford and Roberts is the seat cushions and the mat setup. The rest is just bells and whistles to me. I don't mean that as a slight on the Ford Center, I just always thought we were lucky to have a wrestling event at Roberts.
  7. Not a MD fan here. I was sitting on the border between mats 2 and 3 half way up on the opposite side of the mats from the coaches. This match was on mat 4. As the td happened I thought it was a td but knew it was close to OB. Right after the action stopped I turned to watch other matches. When I turned back I saw Curtley's coach arguing with the ref and guessed they took off the td. I did not know if they called if off for lack of control (which I thought Curtley clearly had) or because of OB (which I knew was close and could not tell). If they were out then it was a good job by the refs of actually taking it off the board. Too many times refs seem stubborn to admit they saw it wrong. I felt the fleeing the mat was blatant and actually laughed out loud when I saw it. Thought maybe the ref should award 2 points for it, I thought it was that bad. I felt as though Maurer blatently hopped in a direction that did not just take him away from the pressure of Curtley, but actually changed his direction to get OB quicker. I was glad the ref did not take Maurer's td off that was near OB by the MD coaches. It was one of those around the ankles td's that I think should always be called a td. I don't know if they were in or not but however the rule is written it should be wrote so that is a td. I saw a lot of matches yesterday so maybe I have the endgame confussed with a different match but here is how I saw it. The stalling at the end was stalling but should not have been called. Ref's rarely call it under that circumstance. Unless I'm getting my matches confused Maurer got his warning with about 30 seconds to go in the match. With around 20 seceonds to go Maurer made a good shot, grabbed the leg, bottoms out, hangs on for life and stalemate is called. Now there is 10 seconds left and they restart and he runs out the clock. After the type of shot Maurer made he broke the refs internal stalling clock. Another 20 seconds or so would have been needed to get another stalling. Overall I felt it was a even match.
  8. I have Chevez over Allen 7-2 in my program from the Big 8 semis but don't remember the match.
  9. I'm not familiar with all the international rules. Can someone explain the scoring sequence at the end of the 1st in Burroughs's match against the Russian? The score was 1-1 at the time with Burroughs having scored last. Under 20 seconds to go in the period and the Russian shoots, gets a td, is awarded a point, the USA throws the brick, and then the Russian is awarded a second point. The final for the period is 3-1 in favor of the Russian. I don't understand what the thrid point in match was (the second in the sequence I'm describing). Also what was the brick? A challenge flag? The sequence starts at the 2:15 mark.
  10. I think Oklahoma State would be a bad choice. They don't know what conference they are going to be in during Tsirtsis's career. He should only consider Big Ten or Ivy league.
  11. Humphrey placed 5th and Bunch did not place so Hump gets the spot on the world team. Howe finished 7th. http://www.themat.com/section.php?section_id=3&page=showarticle&ArticleID=23884
  12. My advice would be to ignore wrestling completely and rank college choices based on the education bang for the buck in the area of study he wants to focus on. After he has ranked his schools based on education, now cherry-pick the wrestling schools out of that list. Ignoring his chosen field of study which would move schools one way or the other I would rank the schools as follows. Northwestern, Cornell Michigan Lehigh The rest of the Big Ten (not Nebraska) Okie and Okie state should not be considered.
  13. What were the results of 145, 152, 160?
  14. Can anyone explain exactly what happened? Was Roach warming up, healthy, and going to wrestle 160? Was he pulled back at the last second by an official or MD coaches seeing it? Also, what exactly would the penalty have been if he did wrestle and won? Would it then be a team forfeit or perhaps just a coach suspension/penalty?
  15. Would you care to expand? What did they learn from Alex's experience that will improve Jason's odds at the next level?
  16. Where you at Donnie B with your predictions?
