  1. I can remember, vaguely, traveling to the Midlands when they were contested in a high school gym and watching the great Iowa heavyweight Chris Taylor at 400 plus pounds weigh heavy on the field. To this day I marvel at the quickness and athleticism of the big man. May he rest in peace.
  2. WTF! After explaining to Adams County and beyond the changes made by the IHSAA in regards to wrestle backs during the Bellmont and Adams Central match, it turns out I did not have a clue. Duped again by the powers that be. Shame on me for misrepresenting their misrepresentation. What a bunch of charlatans. AJ Kalver
  3. WZBD radio 92.7 fm will be broadcasting the meet. AJ Kalver and Rex Brewer on the call.
  4. WHICH FIRST ROUND MATCH WILL BE THE MOST COMPETITIVE AND WHO WINS?
  5. YES HE DID, AND THAT QUALIFIES HIM AS ONE OF THE BEST WRESTLERS EVER TO COME OUT OF INDIANA. MAKING THE COWBOY LINE UP IS A BIG DEAL. THANKS GUYS NOW I CAN FOCUS ON THIS WEEKEND!
  6. ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO A LEO WRESTLER WAS AN ALTERNATE TO THE SEMI STATE OUT OF REGIONALS, AND GOT A CHANCE TO COMPETE. AT SEMI STATE HE WON HIS FIRST AND WAS THEN BEATEN BY THE CHAMPION, ALA THE ALTERNATE AGAIN THIS TIME TO STATE. GUESS WHAT HAPPENED, YEP HE GOT THE CHANCE TO WRESTLE AND WON ON FRIDAY NIGHT!! A STATE PLACE WINNER AS THE ULTIMATE ALTERNATE, YES, OUT OF THE FT WAYNE SEMI STATE. MY AGE AND DIMINISHING MEMORY HAVE BLANKED ON HIS NAME. WHO REMEMBERS?
  7. DID ANY OF OUR NUMBER CRUNCHERS KEEP SCORE OF THE FT. WAYNE SEMI STATE? TORKTOWN PLACED MORE BUT BELLMONT HAD LOTS OF BONUS POINTS AND FOUR CHAMPIONS.
  8. DOES THE NAME ADAM CHALFANT RING A BELL. A SMALL SCHOOL HEAVYWEIGHT WHO WAS VIRTUALLY OVER LOOKED BY THE WRESTLING COMMUNITY. SETH BIBERSTINE HAS THE GOODS TO WRESTLE UNDER THE LIGHTS. THE FT WAYNE SEMI-STATE HAS ANOTHER LEGIT SHOT AT A CHAMPION.
  9. WZBD 92.7FM WILL BE COVERING ALL FOUR ROUNDS OF THE FT WAYNE SEMI STATE. THIS WILL INCLUDE THE OPENING ROUND, THE MONEY ROUND, THE SEMI FINALS AND THE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND. COVERAGE WILL BEGIN AT 8:45. REX BREWER AND AJ KALVER WILL BE MATSIDE.
  10. BOY, THIS CERTAINLY TAKES US DOWN A TRIP ON MEMORY LANE. I STILL THINK IT'S UN-AMERICAN NOT TO KEEP SCORE. I'M SURE SOMEONE WILL HAVE THE UNOFFICIAL TEAM SCORE TABULATED FOR THIS YEARS EVENT.
  11. FRED GINTHER, STATE CHAMPION COACH, FATHER TO A STATE CHAMPION, AND ONE OF THE ESSENTIAL COGS IN THE DELTA PROGRAM'S SUCCESS. MAY HE REST IN PEACE.
  12. STRONGER THAN FAUROTE? MAYBE IF THIS WERE A BENCH PRESS COMPETITION, AND THEN I'M NOT TOO SURE. IT SHOULD BE A GREAT FINALS MATCH UP. ZINK'S ONLY DEFEAT AT 152, FAUROTE'S TO A 138 POUNDER NAMED JACKSON.
  13. I BELIEVE THE MATCH HINGES ON YORTOWNS ABILITY TO WIN AT 145. YORKTOWN NEEDS TO SWEEP THE FIRST 6 WEIGHTS WITH A LOT OF BONUS POINTS AND THEN DEFEAT BROOKS FAUROTE. BELLMONT NEEDS TO SWEEP THE FINAL 7 WITH A BUNCH OF BONUS POINTS. IF YORKTOWN CAN STEAL A MATCH IN THE FINAL 7 AND GET FAUROTE, THEY CAN WIN. IF BELLMONT RUNS THE TABLE FROM 145 ON UP THEY WILL BE VICTORIOUS.
  14. WZBD 92,7 FM WILL BE ON THE AIR AT 5:45 WEDNESDAY FOR THE BELLMONT AND YORKTOWN TEAM REGIONAL MATCH UP. FORMER BELLMONT STATE RUNNER-UP REX BREWER, ALSO A VETERAN STATE FINALS OFFICIAL, AND AJ KALVER WHO LAST YEAR WAS INDUCTED INTO THE INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING COACHES HALL OF FAME WILL BE MATSIDE FOR THE CALL.
  15. WZBD 92.7 FM WILL BE COVERING THE SEMI-FINAL ROUND AND THE FINALS FROM THE JAY COUNTY SECTIONAL. AJ KALVER AND REX BREWER WILL BE DOING THE HOLD BY HOLD COVERAGE BEGINNING AT APPROXIMATELY 9:30 AM. THIS BROADCAST WILL ALSO BE STREAMING ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB.
  16. WZBD will be streaming live for the Bellmont-Penn match and will be providing updates for the other three matches. WZBD.com AJ Kalver
  17. WZBD radio will be streaming live audio for almost ALL of the tournament. We will be on the air for all of the Friday session beginning at 6:00 pm. Our focus will be on the Adams County wrestlers, but will broadcast live matches for other Ft. Wayne semi-state qualifyers and will give updates of all the wt. classes. Go to wzbd.com. AJ Kalver
  18. Have the powers that be begin the blood letting yet because attendance will most likely be off several thousand with out the two best traveling fan bases in the state?
  19. WZBD 92.7 FM will be covering the state finals on Friday evening beginning at 5:45 pm. Rex Brewer former State Finals official and state runner-up will be joined on the call by A J Kalver, a past Bellmont and Ft. Wayne Bishop Luers head coach. A Decatur based radio station has been covering the finals since the 1980-1981 season. Live streaming will be available on the web at wzbd92.7. Saturday's broadcast will start at 9:15 am.
  20. The match was over. He was outwrestled but made a magnificent effort to tie it up. The buzzer sounded. He took off his legband and headgear. The officials put 2 seconds BACK on the clock. He had given all he had and the dream had died. It would have been a whole lot classier for his opponent to celebrate in the center of the mat. Ehr is a champion and he will be back. Great season Josh. Good luck at state to Schendel.
  21. Did anyone happen to notice that NONE of the young men who won their pig tail matches advanced to state. Perhaps in an effort to defuse a bad situation, it created an unbalance. Perhaps those kids wrestling their 3rd match in the go to state round agaisnt opponents who were wrestling their 2nd match were at a disadvantage. 3 intense matches in less than 3 hours?
  22. BOTH MATCHES IN THE SEMIS AND THE FINALS GO 7 WINS FOR EACH SQUAD...WOW IT COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MUCH CLOSER ! WRESTLE NEXT WEEK AND YOU MIGHT HAVE DIFFERENT RESULTS!
  23. OK here goes..Class wrestling only for teams. Two classes split down the middle of enrollment, but.any school can bump up to the larger class for a 2-3 year period. No class for individual. As a coach here in Az. told me yesterday, I am a victim of the system. 6 classes brought on by football coaches who all wanted to be state chanps and the Az athletic association made it mandatory in all sports. Win 7 matches over two weeks and you are a state champion. Are there outstanding kids in all classes you bet! Is the state tournament diluted? Sure thing! Are the coaches happy about the way it is? NO! For the life of me I just can't see what would be so terrible about bringing another 8 schools and communities to a team state wrestling finals. More people, more excitement, and a chance for the small enrollment teams to get a chance for some bragging rights.
  24. Arizona is a class wrestling stae. The road to the state finals begins this Saturday. After 40 years of teaching , broadcasting, and coaching in a one class system, it should be interesting to see how it plays out. Until you've walked a mile in another man's moccasins etc. you know the rest. For the record, the IHSAA declared there would be class wrestling back in 1998, and set 2000 as the deadline. When the Bellmont and Mater Dai fans balked at the set up, the IHSAA backed down and have not been heard from again. Money talks, and nobody supports Indiana wrestling like those two programs. With MD absent this year, will there be empty seats at Center Grove? We'll see.
