  1. Watch out for Hamilton Southeastern. They only lost 1 Senior last year.
  2. What are you talking about. You saw the training that Drago was going threw before his fight with Rocky. Russia has always been on the cutting edge! " I will break You"
  3. Anyone know who is wrestling in what match #?
  4. What if there are no State Champs? Also How many years back does that go? Do you get the State Champ split for life?
  5. I don't mind vertical pairing except when they split the bracket. You can easily get many of the best kids on one half.
  6. The only thing I wish is that I understood the brackets better. Jack beet one of the guys who went to the final in 2 straight periods. Then lost once after that and wrestled for 5th. That just doesn't make sense to me? The problem seems to be with splitting the brackets in half like they do. I am sure there is a good reason for it but no one has been able to explain it to me. I am sure it works well if you have 2 favorites that you want to make sure has the best chance to make it to the finals but when the guys are very even it doesn't seem to work well.
  7. How many mats are you guys running tomorrow? Looks like there are about 900 signed up right now.
  8. Saturday was a fun day. I saw several great throws. If you son is not wrestling Greco they are missing out. The gym has such a different feel than during flokstyle. It just seams like the boys are having a blast!
  9. I for 1 love Greco. What are some weights to watch that we may see some great throws. My son will be in Schoolboy 105. I know of at least 3 kids in that group who will try for some 5's! Tommy Cash has 1 this year and so does Sage Coy. Any one else I need to make sure I watch?
  10. Can we watch this somewhere?
  11. We went to GNC and got the big bucket of protein! I'm just hoping that Disney doesn't move to 106 + the 5 pound allowance.
  12. Are they going to keep the 3 lb allowance at the end of the season? If so now you have the lowest weight class at 109. The beginning of the season makes no difference. It is the end of the season that counts.
  13. I have to say this is right on. My son loves Greco and to a lesser extent freestyle. Mainly because he loves to throw. He knows that he will lose some of his high level matches by trying high level throws. I have to say this is sometime very hard for him to swallow. He lost a match this weekend that he had three 3 point throws and a 5 that was not allowed because he is a schoolboy. He lost another that he had three 3 point throws and got pined when his opponent sunk his hips on another throw and caught him on his back. We already talked about wrestling different at state. It would be nice if the offensive wrestler got rewarded for taking chances or more importantly defensive wrestlers don't get rewarded for wrestling defensive.
  14. It is not about reporting it. It is about taking charge of your program and make sure kids are not cutting to much weight. Many times they say they leave it up to the kid but that is a huge mistake. Coach should know what there kids weigh and how much body fat they have and then tell them what is the lowest weight they can go to. Otherwise the culture will never change. This is a coaches problem plane and simple. If a collage coach is supposed to know what his kids are doing 24-7. Wrestling coaches can keep track of his kids weight. Believe me the good ones all know what their kids weigh.
  15. If a kid wants to cut from 122 to 106. That is what I call fools gold. They may wrestle well at first but by simi-state they will be done. I have seen this several times. Coaches need to do a better job of controling weight cuts. There are so many naive parents and wrestlers who think the bigger the cut the stronger you will be. That may hold true for your one big off season tournament but doing this for 5-6 weeks in a row in way different.
  16. I am looking for a accurate scale that is not to expensive. Does anyone have a suggestion?
  17. #1 I want to say again that this years schoolboy state was the best run tournament I have ever been to. To move on to the subject of other tournaments. Does anyone know what it cost to use trackwrestling? Tournament that use trackwrestling seem to move better on a whole than those who don't. I think more local tournament should try and use this program if it not to expensive.
  18. All I am saying is that Jenkins helps the overall picture not hurts it. It is fine if some guys don't have big personalities but it is great when a few do! Like it or not. It is not all about the wrestling when it comes to TV.
  19. With the national press that Robles has received hopefully the casual fan that tuned in enjoyed the show. In my opinion Jenkins helped with that not hurt. The ones that turned me off were the few who did not want to talk after there match. We need personalities in this sport to help it grow. If you want to market the sport to the public. It has to be fun. If it is not fun, no one will tune in. If no one tunes in. Espn takes it off the air. If Espn takes it off the air. University's think that no one cares. If University's think no one cares. They drop their programs. None of us want to see that happen. In fact we want to see programs added. So once again we need personalities to market.
  20. Let the guy have his fun! I would rather see that than the guy who just runs off and won't talk to anybody. We need people who will promote our sport as something that can be fun. We don't need a bunch of robots out there.
  21. Best run State tournament by far! Great job. I can't tell you how nice it was to not to have to try and listen for your weight all day.
  22. Thought I would put on here a list of how many kids are competing at State this weekend and see what conclusions you guys have on them. Most second year Schoolboys will be in 8th or freshman if they have not taken a red shirt year. Most Cadet will be Sophomores next year. Some will freshman and I even know a few that will be Juniors. Juniors are more than likely Juniors and Seniors. Schoolboy/Girl 70: 16 77: 25 84: 31 91: 44 98: 44 105: 37 112: 33 120: 26 128: 23 136: 19 144: 22 152: 12 160: 8 175: 12 190: 7 210: 5 265: 0 Total: 364 Cadet 84: 7 91: 9 98: 27 105: 31 112: 32 119: 41 125: 37 130: 29 135: 35 140: 33 145: 23 152: 31 160: 29 171: 27 189: 18 215: 15 285: 10 Total: 434 Junior 98: 3 105: 3 112: 16 119: 24 125: 19 130: 28 135: 26 140: 22 145: 30 152: 41 160: 31 171: 34 189: 29 215: 19 285: 27 Tot
  23. When in doubt. Count the 2 !!!
