  1. Well when its in the exact opposite side of the world that makes it hard to do it live at a time that works for both areas. I do agree the tape delayed shows need to be at a reduced price (or free on Spike as has been in the past) since you could find tons of information on it prior to the viewing. At that point its almost like a replay of the event. But, if the UFC think it can get money out of the average fan who doesn't even realize its not live then they will.
  2. University division. Here is the news. http://www.themat.com/section.php?section_id=3&page=showarticle&ArticleID=21868
  3. Here is an interesting perspective on the PPV http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles/UFC-112-Post-Mortem-Spider-Squashed-Underdog-Special-More-23787 I still like Silva when he is on game but his preformances as of lately have not been anywhere up to par. As mentioned in the article the fans are growing tired of the new Silva. At this point something thing needs to change soon (new wieght, bring in fighters, attitude adjustment, etc.) for him to gain some of his reputation back. If not maybe he should retire (as he hinted about before) if he is in fact getting sick of the grind.
  4. Jason wrestled at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. Thus via themat.com In certain weight classes (46 kg, 54 kg, 63 kg, 76 kg, 100 kg) the FILA Cadet National Championships is also a U.S. qualifying event for freestyle for the Youth Olympic Games. Competing in the FILA Cadet Nationals is the first step in making the U.S. team for the Youth Olympic Games. The champions must also compete in a Pan American Qualifier in Mexico to qualify for Singapore.
  5. Silva is simply uninspired to work hard at defending his title. He's basically turning into the type of fighter BJ Penn usually is. Unless you give him a really good reason to get prepared for a fight physically and mentally for a fight he will just mail in the training and squeek out an average victory. Sure a lot of it has to do with the lack of quality opponents for him to face, but it still disappointing to watch a lack luster preformance. This carefree approach may eventually catch up to him against the right fighter as it has from Penn in the past.

  8. I'm guessing Guru would be voting for 2 lists. "Most Influencial to restlings Growth In Indiana" "Biggest Impact on Wrestling Today In Indiana"
  9. For those interested in moving up the a Bronze Level Card but have not have the oppertunity to attend the on site clinic this is a great oppertunity. This is the next step above a Copper Coaches Card though having that is not needed to take this clinic. http://www.themat.com/section.php?section_id=3&page=showarticle&ArticleID=21853
  10. While it is true some may want to go home and enjoy a little daylight I do believe most want to wrestled several time before doing it. Most kids want to get the first match done in the first hour and then have a match about every 30min there after. Obviously in most event this just isn't happening. The big issue I have been hearing parents/wrestlers complain about during events are the 1.5-2 hour waits for the first match and then the 1-1.5 hour wait between matches. When you have 2 matches done and in the mdidle of your 4th hour there it does start to wear on you and your parents. In most cases I don't blaim the people running the event because they are trying to manage the chaos that comes with a huge group of wrestlers (in multiple age groups), the crowd, thier inexperiance table help, and this is all packed in a gym that sometimes isn't big enough. It the just what happens when you have a lot of people want to participate in your event. However, I think they can find ways to curb some of the problem before they start as I will mention below. I think most want a good 5 or so matches but would like to either sleep in a little before showing or be out the door before its dark. My comment on a different theard about spliting the age groups start time in the traditionally big events would be helpful for this. It would help cut the wait time dramiatically, the crowding dramatically, the confusion dramaticalyl, and still allow wrestlers to get several matches in and not take from 7am-7pm to do so. Not to mention the tournament still will get the same attendence without a fire marshall size crowd and constant complaints. Obviously for traditionally smaller tournaments this isn't needed but for the bigger ones it would surely help.
  11. Well its just one ranking. The other 2-5 will be shuffled around differently and be +/- a few names.
  12. A nice ISWA list here to consider. Some already on Drooke's list. http://www.iswa.com/iswalife.html I have noticed that a number of former UofI coach Terry Wetherald wrestlers are now influencing Indiana wrestling in some compacity or another around the state. Having a hand in influcencing many good athletes to continue helping wrestling in Indiana past college is worthy of some notice. Not to mention his sucessful career as a coach.

  15. It's not like Phillips went out there and wrestled like a Middle Schooler in the match. I wouldn't even say Phillips was off his game that much. Both wrestled solid hard matches and Rodriguez just had some great counter offense after a few of Cody's attacks. Heck, if the hard fought scrambles throughout the match happened to end up in Phillips favor the match would have came right down to the wire. If anything it shows how tough Ridriguez is when he is on his game instead of it showing any judgment towards Phillips or some of the other top individuals at 103.
  16. I'm guessing nothing will be discussed about it officially until the national federation meeting which I believe should be occuring sometime in the near future.
  17. 2010 Bellator Fight Championships will be shown on Fox Sports Midwest. This event will be a 8 man tournament in four different weight classes. Looks like a good group of fighters, several of which with wrestling backgrounds. Should be a few interseting matchups if this one pans out the way it should. http://www.bellator.com/HomePage.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=23600
  18. While Cody had a very solid tournament but Rodriguez had his number in the finals. Some great scrambles during the match that just didn't fall Cody's way. Rodriguez had great movement and coutner attacks that cody didn't have a answer for. http://www.flowrestling.org/videos/coverage/view_video/235141-2010-flonationals/322633-103lbs-freddie-rodriguez-mi-vs-cody-phillips-in Here is a solid Semi-Finals win by Cody http://www.flowrestling.org/videos/coverage/view_video/235141-2010-flonationals/322401-103lbs-cody-phillips-vs-james-decamillo
  19. Man I was OK with at least considering your argument until your final point was listen to what Dana White has to say about it. Then I tried to listen to it (against my better judgments) and gave up after the 5th F-Bombs started flying. Hello Dana it doesn't add anything to your argument. Plus do we not recall a few of the last Silva fight where he came in laxidazical agaisnt mid-range fighter. Yeah he won but heck he even made them look like like they were decent fighters for awhile. So its not like Silva is destroying everyone without breaking a sweat. You can't say a ready to go GSP couldn't contend with some of those same guys if Silva did it without caring much about the fight. I'm not going to say GSP will beat Silva but I think he could compete against some good fighters at that weight. I believe it would be a challege to deal with the weight/power if it was a long gruelling fight. However, I also believe if GSP had a solid gameplan to work around this problem he could hold his own and even find some oppertunities to finish the fight. Sure their will always be missmatches between different opponents. However, not all of them are because of a size difference. If you find the right skill matchups for GSP I think he could be competative at the next weight and would be even more competative if they met at a "catch weight" (in-between weight).

    E.G.O.

I never get invited to the cool parties! Myself and a buddy were thinking about attending, but had a prior engagement our female counterparts felt we should attend out of politeness. I figure this summer we can hit up a few events since one of our Assistant Coaches is training some guys for some future competitions.
  22. I have a middle schooler who is currently working on fighting some submission grappling matches this summer (with hopes of transition into full MMA later on). I'm not sure on your guys size or ability, but I'm sure my guy will have a hard time finding opponents also. If Roy will be fighting and training through the summer too we could get you in contact with his trainer about a possible matchup at some point.
  23. 103 Phillips 2nd 130 Tsirtsis 1st 145 Roach 1st Not sure on the other ones at this point.
  24. Sounds like a respectable analysis. Though some will always want to tweek it because we have had several talented guys in the last 10 years. Thanks for taking the time to think this one out.
  25. The first rankings are basically this years results of state and semi-state minus the seniors. So anyone could figure them out by doing a little research in to how wrestlers finished the season.
