  1. If we were to do the Conference route there would need to figure out a things: 1. Is a class system worth establishing. If so conference alignment won't work to determine the winner since each conference is a mix of classes. But a class group could be established and take on the same characteristics as what is mentioned below about the conference set up. 2.An early season conference team competition (multi-dual), team tournament, or a dual meet system (basically like college football conference standings) established. That way we can determine the winner outright without the individual tournament moving or playing a factor. 3. A way to determine how non-conference teams can fit in. Through there own competition or dual meet criteria. 4. Is it worth having a few at large bids in case of tough teams in the same conference. Or are those just the breaks just like what sectional or regional you happen to be in.

  4. Here is a link to some information about the awards. http://www.nwcaonline.com/nwcawebsite/news/11-05-10/NWCA_announces_annual_Scholastic_Award_Winners.aspx
  5. For those of you in southern Indiana it may be of note to hear the long line of Ervin's of Union County add more wrestling accolades to there family name by sweep the KY awards. Roger COY, Tim Asst COY and Caleb WOY.
  6. Coach of the Year - Brad Harper Penn High School Asst. Coach of the Year - Jim Selvio Carmel High School Wrestler of the Year - Drake Stein Princton High School
  7. Second Team 140 - Jason Tsirtsis, Jr, Crown Point HS, Crown Point, IN Honorable Mention 135-Ethan Raley, Sr, Indian Creek HS, Trafalgar, IN. I would have though we may have got one or two more honorable mentions, but I guess they needed a few more national accolades between this year and last year. http://www.themat.com/section.php?section_id=3&page=showarticle&ArticleID=23652
  8. Here was an earlier post on this subject with additional sentiment on the passing of Coach Blubaugh. He was one of the early American greats on the world stage.
  9. I'm not sure their is a magic answer for this one. But, I would guess talking to the college coaches would be your best bet. At least then you are doing what they expect of you if you want to be part of the team. I would guess most would be more than happy to give some insite into what they are looking for or need out of potential prospects or incoming freshman.
  10. Someone been putting on a few pounds. ;D
  11. Maybe Drago can move up to HWT and take on Lesner.
  12. I know several college assistant coaches and a few head coaches made the trip Friday for the Junior World Trials. I would say a few may have stuck around to see the action Saturday at least. So if the event continues to be connected with Junior World it could be an opportunity to get at least some early expose with a few college programs.
  13. I believe the new rules for Indiana is no striking prior to 18. So while he can train in any style he could only fight in submission bouts. Most gyms allow for those under 18 to practice and many local MMA events have submission bouts to start the show.
  14. I'd like to see Diaz fight a few of those guys (Fitch, Koscheck, Penn, Condit, Sanchez, Alves...) before a jump right to GSP. Other than his over the top loud mouth antics I'm not sure Diaz bring that much yet to sell this fight. I don't think that fight would even be considered if GSP hadn't already ran of other contenders.
  15. That seems to be the major rumor of wrestling this off season.
  16. I'm not sure I would say Diaz has "knock out power" but he does throw enough punches that hit the mark to cause some problems for his opponent. He wins over a large series of punches than just having a few well placed mega-blows. The guys has became very well rounded, though he is also very annoying outside the ring too.
  17. Must have sleep through that massive earthquake that guy was prediction. Looks like the guys 0-2 on doomsday predictions.
  18. Brooks lost two straight matches to Nick Roberts in the finals.
  19. Brooks won his mini tournament and in the finals tonight. Tirtsis lost in mini tournament and took fourth. Lost first round to Nick Dardanes and lost in 3/4 match to Chris Dardanes.
  20. Yeah, I looked it up. Apparently the actual arm reach is about an inch and a half difference according to what they have published. However, the height advantage is around 4 inches which could be a bigger factor with Silva's kicks and knees. Should be interesting how GSP game plans for a larger opponent who also has a great standing game and decent ground game to contend with. Not sure GSP could win if he couldn't study Silva. But with the right stratagy and finding a way into the optimal positions can give anyone a chance.
  21. Did he say how GSP is going to add about 4 inches vertically, so he can contend with the reach of Silva?
  22. I think Bailey has a much better upside as a fighter. He just didn't go out and get the job done last night. Unfortunately, Cope did just enough in the eyes of the judges.
  23. He was one of the original great of our sport and continued to be an ambasedor of wrestling way past his competitive days. Coach Blubaugh will be missed. http://themat.com/article.php?ArticleID=23600
  24. Then they sure allowed the action proceed a lot longer than just a few seconds to check the side judges. Looked like perry coaches went into the discussion trying to avoid the tech fall but came out with a much better result. Like a true champ McKinley sure didn't let the early onslaught phase him and came back fighting though.
