  1. They do have a few stat programs that can be downloaded as apps, but to me they seem to be lacking some elements I'd like to see. Our head coach actually designed the skeleton form of a a great wrestling stat app for the iPad/iPhone which would even allow you to input data as the match is happening and it automatically totaled the individual score, team score, and all the stats. However, it was put on the back-burner when the designer he put to work on it couldn't figure out how to complete a few of the details through the Apple rules so the compiled stat data could be possible exported out of the iPad/iPhone file. So if anyone happens to know a great app designer that may be able to fix this issue we may have one of the better wrestling stat apps on the market.
  2. Nice! Indiana is on it's way to one of our best DI and DII commitment years ever.
  3. Nick was brought over during the Strikeforce merger and was the one that lost his shot at GSP but Dana was nice enough to give him Penn as a consolation prize. Nate has been towing the line and hasn't had a major mess up for awhile with doing as Dana White asks.
  4. I think he forgot to hit the sarcasm font before typeing that part.
  5. New year, new focus, and new weight class for most wrestlers. We will see how it pans out.
  6. Diaz had a shot at the UFC title against GSP in an upcoming PPV it was tKeb away due to him avoided certain pre-fight obligations. Dana White was kind enough to keep him on the card against someone else but his patience has got to be wearing thin.
  7. Detroit Catholic is where super energy youth coach Mike Krause is currently. So they should have an energetic fan base for awhile.
  8. I think he may be getting less credit because his titles were at Cadet instead of Junior at a upperclassman dominated weight class (seems some others got some credit for there junior national performance). Plus add in he hasn't won a high school title yet to show his talent against those older kids. They probably didn't take into account who he lost to both years either. I'm sure they'll learn eventually he has more value than that ranking.
  9. As one of three winners he wins a pair of Cradle Gear Fight Shorts which he will be sure to wear while coaching at state this year. http://www.flowrestling.org/m#!/article/7628-Cradle-Gear-Fight-Shorts-Prediction-Contest-Winners
  10. Ouch....hard to stay in the UFC if you get a black mark like this and are not an established fighter. Let's hope everything works itself out somehow.
  11. Not sure what they mean by a non-mandatory weight? If both teams have them it becomes varsity and if only one has it the other team would say it's not a varsity weight???? Adding a 15th weight class sounds like a worthwhile idea to explore. Just not sure it needs to be at 98lb. Seems better if it would involve readjusting the current weights to incorporate it. It would provide more chances for the middle weight guys and solve the dual tie-breaker issue. I think somewhere around 103-6 is about as low as is needed for the lowest class and I was 94lb on a good day as a freshman.
  12. We are investigating the same at this time. Our assistant coach has a Resilite one at his gym. It has worked out well over the last two years, though he never had moved it like a wrestling team would. I haven't heard anything negative from schools that have them, but most only got them a year or two ago so wear and tear hasn't been a factor yet. Some schools have used them as just meets surfaces which I would think would help them last longer (if you has storage space). I know Dollamur has the new tapeless (velcro) lightweight mats designs out, which seemed to have good reports from Fargo. Sounds like a good concept if the seam will hold over time.
  13. I believe Y2 said it was going to be an online mag. It will be a more sophisticated attempt at putting out pre-season information, than just a simple webpage version. Not sure if they were going to try and make a hard copy of it just yet.
  14. That crowd was styling some snazzy spirit ribbons!
  15. Yes the "brick" or "cube" is basically a challenge flag asking for a video review. If you challenge and lose your opponent get an additional point. It's basically a preventative measure to ensure people do not challenge everything. The challenge was if the Russian had enough control with Jordan actually down for the takedown to count. With 15sec and the refs no longer calling stalling it's worth throwing the "brick" or "cube" since challenge or not you would lose the period if it's a takedown. If I recall right if you challenge and win you get to keep the challenge "brick" or "cube" but if you lose the challenge you don't get t again for rest of the period. But I'm not 100% on that one.
  16. With seniors graduating from last years squads it may be hard to accurately pick anywhere close to the the top teams in each division until a few weeks into the season. They seemed to be popular last year so I'm guessing they will have them again. However, mid-season would be about the time to start considering them them useful.
  17. There is no way the reff had time to slap down a 1-2-3 count that quickly. Some it take Earl Hebner a good 10 seconds to get that done if the guy doesn't kick out first. ;D
  18. In season competition would be the one factor I could think of. If the Big 12 does collapse let's hope the wrestling schools can find a conference a competitive wrestling division. If not schools like Oklahoma St. may end up taking a small hit in there national stature.

    Super 32

Soup while he's still a major name in Indiana, Phillips has been absent from the National Ranking over the last year. Which to me signifies he's dropped from the national radar. This drop is no doubt due to his lack of national events over his junior year combined with his loses in state. Sure he's still a threat for some of the top guys and many of them or there coaches know to not take him lightly. However, he isn't getting the national recognition he got after finishing 2nd in the FloNationals. After his Sophomore year. Hopefully beating some of the top guys on the way to a solid placement at Super 32 will fix this and get him back into the national spotlight. It would be great to see him and a few other top Indiana guys get some respect from the national rankings guys during their Senior campaigns. With Indiana's travel restrictions about the only way to accomplish this is performing well at events like the Super 32.

    Super 32

Agreed. A solid preformence there against some top guys, even if he doesn' make the finals, could really help rise his stock again.
  21. Sorry they had him listed as an Illinois guy on the bio's so I overlooked him. He's from Indy area if I recall correctly.
  22. A team switching directions and obtaining a well known Assistant Coach who specializes in a specific weight range does have some influence on recruiting. Sure assistance move every year but only some head assistance are considered among the high profile ones which can energize recruiting. So, you add two heavy hitters in the coaching world like Michigan got and I'm sure more recruits will be considering Ann Arbor as a possibility. To lose a top notch assistant coach who specializes in your weight range for a less proven one may also cause a recruit start compare other similar colleges. It's not the whole factor in a recruits decision but definitely a nice piece of it.
  23. We'll just swap since I may be able to cut to 57 still. ;D

    Super 32

Sounds like it could be the largest at least.
  25. We have had the occasional "Chat with the Rankings Guy" events every so often. However, Y2 has said before that opening up a true chat room may not work since it would be hard to regulate at all hours. Even though he's on here an awful lot I'm sure his wife doesn't want to communicate with him only through login into the chat room.
