  1. Yes, several of the matches came down to a 30 sec left in the match takedown. A few after some solid scrambles too.
  2. He mentioned in his post match interview that the change in opponent caused him to want to "take it out on the other guy."
  3. Also worth noting on the main card that Purdue recruit Griffin Parriott will be wrestling highly ranked Hayden Hidlay (PA).
  4. Yeah Courtney has had a breakout preformance between his showing at PA States and now FloNationals. His stock just skyrocketed.
  5. Sound like Drew Hughes is now a late entry into the main event. Indiana will be well represented on Team USA.
  6. Refresh the mind. Rest up the body. Refocus the training. Regrow the mullet. Regain the title next year.
  7. Or maybe at least their finalist have all stated if hired they would be willing to attend.
  8. The large amount of waviers were granted last year due to it being the first year of the change and some confusion about the new rule. This year ISWA have made it clear from the start that waviers will not be given out so generously.
  9. And I believe that is one of the big issue the ISWA is trying to solve. How do we get more wrestlers and better competition at the local tournaments? When numbers and talent levels are low at these local events (especially compared to what you get out of a club/academy practice) many people don't believe it's worth their time to take an extra day out of their week, pay more money, and get just a couple low quality matches in after several hours of wait time. That thought process has created a domino effect which has leaded to the low number of events we have had in the last few years and several clubs no longer hosting events. The ISWA is attempting to figure out a solution to draw these club/academy kids to more local tournaments. This will tincrease the events depth and thus attract other wrestlers to attend. Thus improving participating numbers state wide, which will lead to more clubs wanting hosting events, and improve IN's Freestyle/Greco level as a whole. The ISWA current idea to improve numbers is the 2 event rule to participate in state. Obviously this is not a solution that everyone agrees with. But, from what I am seeing the biggest complaint about this isn't the 2 event rule, but rather the low number of events and limited time frame in which a participant have to fulfill the requirement. Hopefully the ISWA will notice this and take those two issue (length of season and events available within a reasonable distance) into consideration in the future. Clearly there are other states which found solutions to this same issue that still allow them to field competitive national teams.
  10. In related none-DI stud news, Joey Davis at 184 just finished his DII career going undefeated with 4 titles. If Lefever continues on his same title and improvement path next year afantasy match against Davis would be a nice one to ponder.
  11. Morgan lost 7-4. But the US comes out the 34-18 winners over Team Minnisota. Purdue recruit Griffin Parritt was a win over Mason Manville due to him missing weight. The match occured anyway (as an exhibition) with Manville winning in the Sudden Victory OT period. The feature matchup of Mark Hall and Alex Marinelli ended in a impressive 14-5 win for Hall.
  12. Paul has had a great season this year. However, he has had some trouble getting a win over the top 10 guys. I'm hoping he finds his stride next weekend and can reach All-American status.
  13. This weekends Dream Team classic will include one connection to Indiana, Brock Morgan who will be Apple Valley Minnisota. Although Brock didn't compete in IN during his high school career, he did cut his teeth on Indiana wrestling. Brock will be facing highly ranked Carter Happel of Iowa. Brock has committed to wrestle at Columbia University. https://theguillotine.com/2016-dream-team-wrestling-classic/
  14. Was he undefeated for his final 4 titles? I haven't had an opportunity to look those stats up yet. I believe that what the original post was referencing.
  15. Suriano has has some up and down matches when going against some of the elite national competition, but he has been "nails" in NJ. He has a bright college career ahead of him.
  16. Yeah, unfortunately in the last few years Indiana has seen its fair share of soild DI college recruits choose to leave their wrestling programs after their first year or two. Hopefully we see a reversal in this trend.
  17. You are correct 8th puts him in contention for a possible at-large bid but it a long shot considering other top guys at 197 didn't get in this weekend. Only the top 6 at 197 for the BigTen got automatic bids in. I guess I looked at the wrong number for that weight.
  18. That's some slick stuff, but it's not even his best work. Kids a hammer.
  19. Probably the hair salon, where he was getting his sweet hair do lined out.
  20. Indiana University has two automatic bids from BigTens. Elijah Oliver took 5th at 125 and Nate Jackson takes 4th at 174. Purdue University gets three automatic bids from BigTens Danny Sabatello got 5th at 141, Chad Welch (of Castle) got 5th at 165, and Drake Stein (of Princton) got 8th at 197.
  21. Thank Dingo. I knew I missed someone from Indiana that was doing well in the EIWA, but couldn't recall who while I was skimming through the results.
  22. I saw 125 Paul Petrov of Bucknell (Hanover Central) and 174 Brian Harvey of Army (Cathedral) both finish 2nd in EIWA. This qualifies them for the NCAA tournament. Big10s still in progress now. There will be a few names from that. What Indiana connected wrestlers finished high in their Conference tournaments now has automatically qualified for NCAA's?
  23. A Indiana and Florida state champ in the same year from the same youth program. Not bad.
