  2. Last nights episode... BJJ is no match for wrestling. Mr. Gracie jitz got owned on the ground.

  4. Do not be critical of the IOC? The entire sports world has been critical of the IOC for years because they're a bunch of corrupt scumbags.
  5. Don't fret... The world's greatest athletes can still bravely test their mettle in noble events such as speedwalking, handball and trampoline.

  9. Howe was a savage already in HS, and could put together a nearly mistake-free six minutes. That's tough to deal with even for a great wrestler like Sliga.
  10. http://awn.theopenmat.com/2013/01/awn-duals-of-the-week-penn-state-at-iowa/ By Eric John Amateur Wrestling News No. 1 Penn State at No. 3 Iowa WHEN: Friday, Feb. 1, 8:04 p.m. Central WHERE: Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Iowa City, Iowa ON THE WEB: Live Blog at AWN; Live TV: Big Ten Network This is a weekend many wrestling fans have been looking forward to from a dual meet perspective. Top-ranked Penn State will travel to Iowa City on Friday to take on the No. 3 Iowa Hawkeyes at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. This will be the first time this season we see Penn State face a top 10 team in a dual format. Both teams appear to be wrestling well headed into this dual. Carver-Hawkeye Arena is a tough place to wrestle with their passionate fans. This should be a great test for both teams. Projected Lineup (Subject to change – Rankings by AWN) 125: #2 Nico Megaludis vs. #1 Matt McDonough 133: Jordan Conaway vs. #1 Tony Ramos 141: Bryan Pearsall vs. #7 Mark Ballweg 149: #9 Andrew Alton vs. Michael Kelly 157: #5 Dylan Alton vs. #1 Derek St. John 165: #1 David Taylor vs. #13 Nick Moore 174: #7 Matt Brown vs. #4 Mike Evans 184: #1 Ed Ruth vs. #17 Ethen Lofthouse 197: #3 Quentin Wright vs. Nathan Burak HWT: #16 Jon Gingrich vs. #10 Bobby Telford Breakdown 125: Although we are unsure exactly what weight the dual will be starting, our preview kicks off with a rematch of last year’s national championship match. Iowa’s Matt McDonough won that match a year ago and is undefeated on the season. Many people who have been watching him this season believe he’s not as dominating as much as he did last season. With that said, he has not lost and that is what really matters. He is finding ways to win. Nico Megaludis of Penn State only has............. http://awn.theopenmat.com/2013/01/awn-duals-of-the-week-penn-state-at-iowa/
  11. I also think it would help refs to better understand the positions if they themselves had been in them recently. If its been 20 years since another man held you down against your will, or blocked you off on your feet, or laid on the bottom and studded-up against your turns you've forgotten what it feels and looks like. Fans and refs who haven't wrestled in 20 + years have lost some of their ability to accurately understand what's happening on the mat.
  12. Some refs just don't know the difference between a stalemate and stalling. That is where you see a lot of frustrating and inconsistent calls especially on the mat. What I have noticed this year more than in past years are refs simply being out of position to make the correct calls. Good referees seem to anticipate the action much better and are in position to see and make the correct calls.
  13. By Laurie Cannon NCAA INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA released the first of three coaches’ panel rankings for the 2012-13 wrestling season on Thursday. The final rankings will be one of the tools used as part of the selection process to determine the qualifiers for the 2013 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. Wrestlers in each weight class... http://awn.theopenmat.com/2013/01/ncaa-releases-first-division-i-coaches-panel-ranking/
  14. Coaching in the extreme pressure cooker that is the Hawkeye program, I guarantee you Brands is well aware of how "touchable" he is. If he has a couple bad seasons they'll run his ass outta there on a rail. In fact, I imagine that's why he'd feel a 6 second interview on the way to the locker room in the middle of a conference dual is annoying. He's intensely focused on winning, not on PR.
  15. I think, for the most part, we should be emulating the next level, i.e. college wrestling.
  16. Sectional 22 >>> Regional 9 >>> New Castle is rough.
  17. Fleeing calls are almost always called wrong IMO
