  1. It is not the same, win matches in a different season with different wrestler... 100% not the same. I also want to make clear, my post IS NOT about any one school, but about making this process better for the future. Right now North Montgomery and Portage are the teams that should feel slighted. They are the only teams to date that i am aware of that have beaten invited schools in their class and they were not invited.
  2. "It looks like a slam especially when these concerns are brought up ex post facto. Any selection process can have holes punched in it and Im sure the group who put it together is open to further tweaking. If you are truly interested in it being a success, i would suggest supporting it now and offer your input for improvement after the first one is over. To do otherwise looks like sour grapes." In no way did I slam anyone. I 100% agree that any and all selection processes can be critized in one way or another. No sour grapes here, I will be in attendance this year to support it. However, this is a discussion board and one way to make improvements is to "discuss", keep an open mind, listen to ALL sides and probably one of the most important, not be so defensive. Business 101, the first plan usually is not the best but rather a starting point. Please do not try and turn my post into something it is not.
  3. I understand the "scoring criteria" under this IHSWCA tournament guidelines, the only reason I brought this up is to spur discussion on the criteria. If we want this tournament to be successful there needs to be a better way to determine who qualifies, otherwise this tournament should be called nothing more than an IHSWCA Invitational based on last years underclassmen performance. If you have 1underclassman that places at state and another makes it to stae, and another 2 get out of regional that is in NO way a reflection that you will have a top dual team the next year. I don't have the answers but I just think there are some things to look at to solidify and really validate this tournament. Don't take this as a slam on the tournament or the ones who have put in a lot of time organizing it. Just some discussion to help improve it. I just used the Yorktown / Belmont match as an example. I am sure there are other examples.
  4. Question for anyone who was at this match: I heard the final score was 41 - 27. Belmont was without their best wrestler, Busse. Is it reasonable to assume that the final could have been 35-33 Tigers, if Busse was in? Did the Tigers wrestle any back ups, was they at full strength? Which begs to ask another question, if Yorktown is #1 in AA, how can can there be a "State Tournament" without a school like Belmont. EVERYONE knows that History shows that Belmont will be 20+ points better at the end of the year.
  5. ...on the other hand a tennis player cannot win a state title in the #1, singles and the #2 singles and #3 singles. Only one. I am not sure since I don't follow it but I don't think individuals can participate in the doubles either...can they? and the IHSAA counts them as disciplines.... just to muddy the water.
  6. Just for discussion, how has the College National Duals made college wrestling better? This is a mid season obscure tournament, that many of the top programs ignore and don't take serious because of the "mid season" scheduling. It is not well followed or well attended. Like I said many wrestlers and teams opt to get ready for the end of the season. I think it is silly to call the winners of this tournament "state champs". They will no doubt be the winners of a very good invitational, but that is it....at least in my mind. Haha.
  7. I wish people would stop calling it "state"', "finals" or "championship". It is nothing more than a mid season invitational with 3 pools, called pool"A"' pool "2A" and pool "3A". Everyone knows there cannot be a team called "state champions" midway through a season. Wrestling, more than any other sport is about practicing, training, drilling, etc... To prepare to peak at the right time, at the end of the season. It is going to hurt some of the best mid season tournaments in the state, such as the Al Smith, the Bellmont super dual and other tournaments. This tournament will NOT determine a state champ. For those of you who want to grow our sport this is nothing but a slap in the IHSAA's face and we wonder why wrestling can't get anywhere with the Brass? I for one do not see how this is good for our sport. Just my opinion and nothing against anyone who is for it.
  8. Edward's Drive In was on Man vs. Food, known for their breaded tenterlions and homemade root beer...
  9. I think I would go out and buy a lottery ticket because your luck has to change sooner or later. But then again with luck like that you take a risk in getting run over by a dump truck.
  10. I don't see 145 as a toss up, I would say Vinnie would be a solid favorite. Just my opinion.
  11. Funny, like a team hit hits 3 tres in the final 20 seconds to come from behind to win. Not to take anything away from the either team but in wrestling many times the "come from behind" win or "they led the entire way" is usually related to where they start.
  12. I saw this happen at a tournament this year. The REF awarded a take down and the kid who was taken down, yelled at him that it was not a take down. The REF stopped the match, disqualified the kind and ended his tournament early. Handled appropiatley, there should be ZERO tolerance.
  13. I don't see Melcher and Schultz meeting this week. I would predict Bradley vs. Melcher in the finals....
  14. Especially coming out of this sectional......(one tem in specific) :'(
  15. I think Munges is referring to your leading post (or should I say mis-leading post). You lead everyone to believe you were going to cover all Adams county wrestler (or did I mis were you advertised that the focus was on SA)? No, I have read it again and no where do you say that. The way it sounds, you could not follow this very well any way. Better luck next time.
  16. How much of a "wild card" can Mauer be?? He is ranked 4th in the state. He is one of he favorites!!!!
  17. AJ - we are still waiting.......
  18. Belmont - 208 SA - 197.5 AC - 194.5 it will be a dog fight......
  19. I will throw out my 2 cents worth: Stalling is "in the moment" as you put it. It does not or should not matter what has happened throughout the match. However, with that being said, probably more cases than not if you can leave an early impression in the officials mind that you are the one pushing the action you are more than likely going to get a "pass" on a later stall.... everyone is human.
  20. X-Rated - I totally agree with you that everyone is 0-0 and anything can happen. I was just making this statement based on the results only. But you say SA wrestled flat, I heard the same thing after the dual meet against AC, that SA did not wrestle well....is there a common theme going on????
  21. Considering SA finished 41 points behind AC in the conference meet I would consider this sectional a 2 team race between AC and Belmont. I believe Belmont won several close matches in the dual meet against AC, this could give them an edge in seeding meeting tonight. We will see.....
  22. Not at all? No pin points or advancement points? Thank you.
  23. Can someone share how the scoring goes? How many points for each placement, advancement points, fall, tech fall, etc...? Thank you.
