  1. I would take that over "our team went 2-3 and Billy was champ at 145." Team scores are at least a start. Individuals when at all possible is even better.

Nice job, smooth. You got the 2 I went against you in close decisions and also the 4 we agreed on.
  3. Some duals results are missing from these tournaments: Chesterton brownsburg lafayette jeff lake station cma SB clay New Castle Daleville boonville batesville bluffton
  4. I heard he had some bad chicken and pooped an egg...or some bad eggs that made his poop look chicken-ish. Don't remember which.
  5. GC filled 11 weights and got 7th out of 10 teams in the meet.
  6. Except that a few schools have a "Varsity 2" that goes to mostly varsity meets--not JV meets. My point was that if more and more teams are doing this, why should it matter if GC sends a competitive JV team to an event while its varsity goes to a meet it has attended for many seasons?
  7. Many schools have a "Varsity 2" that they send to varsity events with a full or nearly full team. Why is it so horrendous that GC sent teams to two separate events? Why are they different from others that do the same? I honestly don't know the situation, but this is a normal practice.
  8. I guess that was GC's second team that wrestled the Hurrle tournament on Saturday? The Genius ratings had GC pegged as a surprise Top 20 team, but none of their returnees wrestled and they got 7th place. Please tell me this was the second team.
  9. Thanks for the updates. Team results after you guys?
  10. There were enough different offenders that singling out one team as the biggest culprit would be difficult.
  11. Very telling graphic. I like the colors. In all seriousness, it says a lot. And California is the one from that group whose rating is propped up on an enormous population--but has a quality per ca pita rating much, much lower.
  12. 14-0. Yeah, yeah, we get it. Try leaving some pie for the rest of us.
  13. Any updates on any action? I thought New Castle's tournament was going on last night, but didn't see much about it. Capital City? Hurrle? Anything, really.
  14. No. You can lose 3 times on Day 2. Quarterfinals, wrestle-backs, and 7th place match. 12 would be max for a career according to the system of the last few years.
  15. You're right, it's team business to share or not share; but asking about a star wrestler not being in someone's lineup is only natural. The question is an innocent one (most times, he was just nicked up or sick or a JV kid was being given a match). It's only not innocent when the reply is, "It was a team decision," and you press it further.

Concerning only the final 6 fights: I agree with you on 4, but I'll take Story and Shogun. I think Story's wrestling will cause problems for Kampmann, and I think Shogun will be able to hurt Hendo enough in the first round to slow him down, drag out the fight, and expose his age. Hendo hasn't had to take a punch and push through to later rounds in his past couple fights, so we've forgotten how he's lost a bit of his younger-years, full-fight tenacity. I think we'll see this weakness again here, though, unfortunately.
  17. Jaggers' exciting round of back and forth with Dillashaw during the prelims show is looking better and better as time passes. Dillashaw's into the TUF finale.
  18. 1002 cool points per post. I gotta start wearing my headgear around.
  19. What I meant is "all teams who want to participate are committed to wrestling--win or lose--on a couple of specific dates". You're right. It was confusing.
  20. GrecoCoach, In making my point, I was never under the illusion that anywhere near all of the schools would elect to participate. Also, first and second round dual nights could easily be staggered and other "normal" duals could be scheduled outside of those 3 or 4 particular nights. I don't envision any scenario where more than 75 officials would be needed for a given duals night or "statewide" Saturday. There are solutions to be had here.
  21. Calculating the Top 25 High School Wrestling States from The Open Mat --by maligned One way of judging the quality of high school wrestling in a particular state is by looking at the depth of top quality individuals in that state. Top quality individuals are indicative of good programs and a competitive environment. As an outsider, I can objectively say that TOM does an excellent job with its national high school Top 20 individual rankings. They are extensively researched and compiled very logically. As I did last year for a discussion board topic, I have used a point system to identify both frequency and quality of top individuals in each state as one way to evaluate that state?s relative high school wrestling strength. Using TOM?s rankings of 470 individuals nationally, I gave each state 10 points for an individual that appears in the Top 20 and 5 points for an individual appearing in the honorable mention section. Additionally, I added 20 points for a #1 ranking, 19 for a #2 ranking, 18 for #3, and so on, down to 1 point for a #20 ranking. So, a #20 position equals 11 points total and a #1 position equals 30 points total. These points give each state a ?Total Depth? rating. After this, I calculated the number of points scored for each state per 1 million residents of that state. I call this the ?Wrestling-Crazy? rating. It essentially shows the Top 25 states? quality per ca pita. In other words, regardless of population, how ?into? wrestling is each state. Finally, I compiled an Overall Top 25 HS Wrestling States that synthesizes the two ratings for equal value (total strength plus ?craziness?). Only states with at least 5 individuals ranked were considered. Overall Top 25 High School Wrestling States (Average of ?Total Depth? and ?Wrestling Crazy?) 1 Pennsylvania 96.2 2 Iowa 80.0 3 Minnesota 70.6 4 Ohio 70.4 5 Illinois 60.5 6 California 42.7 7 Oklahoma 41.6 8 New Jersey 37.3 9 Indiana 35.4 10 Michigan 31.7 11 Wisconsin 30.0 12 Nebraska 29.2 13 Oregon 28.4 14 Missouri 27.6 15 Virginia 26.0 16 Maryland 21.5 17 Florida 20.6 18 Nevada 15.1 19 Georgia 14.8 20 Washington 14.5 21 New York 10.7 22 Kansas 10.2 23 North Carolina 8.0 24 Texas 6.2 25 Tennessee 6.1 Total Depth (Total raw points, times 0.13) Pennsylvania 121.1 Ohio 85.4 Illinois 76.3 California 71.1 Minnesota 58.5 Iowa 46.3 New Jersey 40.3 Michigan 36.0 Indiana 32.8 Florida 29.5 Oklahoma 27.8 Virginia 26.8 Wisconsin 25.9 Missouri 24.6 Oregon 19.2 Maryland 18.7 Georgia 16.7 New York 15.5 Washington 13.7 Nebraska 11.5 Texas 9.6 North Carolina 8.9 Nevada 8.0 Kansas 5.6 Tennessee 5.6 ?Wrestling-Crazy?
