  1. And Bailey—dad won 2 at Martinsville and Brayden won at Cathedral.
  2. I don’t see Miller in that bracket.
  3. 2013–106–also had Hudkins
  4. Didn’t say anything about being soft. My point is that we aren’t the only ones that set up a tournament the way we do. You can hardly seed the sectionals because too many coaches are trying to get a competitive advantage as opposed to separating the best wrestlers. No way could you come up with a system to separate the kids at semi-state or state that anybody would agree to.
  5. I counted Mooresville with 23. Did you include Indian Creek?
  6. Division II does their national tournament the same way we do our state tournament. Best 2 (or 3 or 4) guys could be on the same side. They don’t talk or complain about it being seeded.
  7. If we went back to 13 weight classes, we could eliminate the 2 pages of the rule book that list the criteria for tiebreaks in dual meets.
  8. Tony, I understand what you’re saying. My point is every time someone mentions class wrestling, it’s met with a “work harder” response. You can’t have it both ways. Maybe the kid from the big school should “work harder” and not lose in the round to go. For the record, I’m for class wrestling and wrestlebacks. I think both would make our sport better. The gap between the “haves” and “have nots” has never been greater than it is right now.
  9. I don't think you can be anti-class wrestling and pro-wrestleback...you said it yourself--to be the best you gotta beat the best. Why get a second opportunity to qualify for state? Is it because that's how wrestling is done across the country? If so, its also classed across the country. I would argue that a lot of small schools are dedicated and putting in the work as well. I think a point that some on this board are missing is what about the small school that does everything right--open rooms, opportunities for additional training, etc, only to see their future star(s) enroll at a different high school when they enter the ninth grade? Are they suddenly "not dedicated"?
  10. I don't disagree that classing basketball was the main reason for the drop in attendance. But, its possible that the drop was due to a loss of the casual fans...i.e, once it was classed, you only had parents, relatives and students attending those tournament games--maybe because of the travel that is now an issue and not the local guy who attended every sectional since 1972. It was a lot more convenient to attend the tournament when it was local. I would argue that wrestling doesn't get the a lot of the casual fans that basketball and football do.
  11. Maybe the drop in attendance is due to the fact that there is a lot more to do in 2017 than there was in 1984. People have more entertainment options. The same can be said for wrestling participation. In the 80's and 90's, kids joined high school sports teams because that was what you did. If you weren't varsity, you participated on the jv and were still part of a team. Now, if you aren't varsity, you have a lot of options (internet, video games, etc.) to occupy your time that doesn't include being someone's back up. In an instant gratification/5 second highlight society, this shouldn't be that difficult to understand.
  12. He started at Tri-West. And had less than 10 kids on the team. But he did have a state qualifier both years he was there. No offense taken...
  13. I believe he had to MFF at semi-State the following year in the semis.
  14. From coytecooper.com... Dr. Cooper got his Ph.D. from Indiana University in Sport Marketing and was a college professor for 9 years where he established a line of research in the area of branding and social media marketing.
  15. I think he went to Lassen JC, then went to Central Oklahoma (DII). Placed 2nd and 7th at DII Nationals.
  16. Tristen Tonte for being named Indy Star Marion County Male Athlete of the year and Ben Stewart for being named Indy Star Male City Athlete of the year. Much deserved for both.
  17. Hudkins beat McGhee 2-1 tb to advance to the 3/4 match. NCAA qualifier as a true freshman.
  18. Unless the rule has been changed, it isn't considered fleeing if you leave the mat while giving up nearfall.
  19. Forte, I think won 4. I don't believe LeCount did. Didn't he lose round to go as a freshman? (I could be way wrong on that). Hudkins won 4.

Rob Pavletic from Hobart in the late 80s
  21. He got FF on Friday night because "Hudkins had medical issues from Diabetes". In the future, if you have no idea as to what you are talking about, please don't post it on the message board. Especially if you're commenting on a kid's medical issue. It's irresponsible and you're incorrect in your diagnosis.
  22. 1982...became state runner-up in 1983. Placed 4th in 1981.
  23. Who were the 4xers from 2007 to 2016 (besides Red and Rypel)?
  24. 2005--Angel Escobedo 2004--Alex Tsirtsis 2002--Randy Baker I know these are right, but mine was simply a guess.
