  1. Congrats to Warren Central's own Michael Johnson-Jones on winning the NJCAA national championship at 197 pounds. You deserving everything Mike and I couldn't be more proud. And congrats to Gabe Berry for his All-American performance. WARRIORNATION
  2. First off I want to say congrats to all State Champs. I would really like to congratulate all coaches and team supporters (I know how much work you people do behind the scenes). With that being said, let me say WOW!!! MIKE JONES. I have never been more proud to be associated with Warren Central then I was Saturday night. This could not have happened to a better young man. I was not able to coach this year due to a personal conflict, but I feel that I was right there with Mike when he was wrestling. When I first meet Mike, he was very VERY raw. After working with him for 2+ years, and then throw in Coach Williams knowledge and teachings and now stands probably one of the best(if not the best) 189 pounders in Warren's history. With my fiancé next to me cheering and crying in celebration, I sat there as proud as I have ever been in a long time. After the match I told him I was proud of him and enjoy it. He looked at me with the biggest smile and told me thanks for everything coach. I hope that we get more student-athletes (not just wrestlers) in the state of Indiana like Mike. Congrats again to everyone and good luck in the future.

  4. Even though I will be tired after the big WC victory on Friday!!! I will make the early trip up to support the Warriors. This should be a great year for wrestling, and I am excited about it. Hope everyone comes out injury free and has a great time this weekend.
  5. James Travis really impressed me on the field last friday. I think he has a real good chance of playing D1-aa or maybe even D1 ( on the deffensive side of the ball). Good luck to you in the future.
  6. Good luck to everyone first off. To Michael and Gabe, it has been my pleasure to coach the two of you. Michael I know that you will finish this year strong. Gabe it has been a crazy year, and I can't wait for you to put the final touches on a perfect season. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Go Indiana wrestling!!!
  7. We at Warren Central have wrestled a total of 54 wrestlers who quailified for state. Not counting teams wrestled more than once I would like to see someone with more. ;D On another note Michael Johnson-Jones has wrestled 5 guys who made it to state. Anyone else have individuals who have wrestled this kind of tough competition.
  8. We could have two at Warren this year Michael Johnson-Jones(outside chance) Gabe Berry Very good chance of having two in the finals
  9. We did not get credit for any matches on Saturday. 3 matches.
  10. I was looking at the brackets and I noticed that none of our kid?s records have changed from their regional records. I then went to the IHSAA website and it had the same records for them as well. It is not that big of a deal, but I just wanted to keep their records intact. Did anyone else notice this problem?
  11. From Warren Central: Joe and Jacob Wise - Cradle Jon Lloyd - Inside trip (had a sweet cradle as well) Danny Williams - Double leg Richard Clevenger - Front Headlock Jimmy Perry - Goofy Trip Claude Robinson - Double Overhook toss William Campbell - Wild Bill Roll Nick Odom - Rolling Half
  12. Coach Thorton you do a great job with this and I just wanted to say thanks. It is nice to see the wrestlers and there records.
  13. Must have been a great match!! Wish I could be there for the next one. I do not see McMurray losing though.
  14. Congrats to Roncalli and Coach Ellis. I hope you guys do well. ;D ;D
  15. That is true. Is there any other county that has multiple reps??
  16. Not taking anything away from Warner, but 189 at the New Castle SS is stacked. With Hodges, Brock, Johnson-Jones, and Dalton. 215 is tough with Berry and Schafer, but not anything like 189. I'm sure Warner would have advanced at 189, but his chances are better at 215. Good luck to everyone.
  17. A couple groups stick out in my mind: Adam Doherty 103/112 Robert Rossbottom 135/145 From Jeffersonville 4 State Titles between them. In 1999 LN had three state finalist 171 Nick Hardwick 189 Brad Stephens 215 Kevin Kemper 1997 160 John Kopniskey(sp) 189 Todd Wright 2 Champs
  18. I can not wait for this one. We have wrestled both teams this year and I was very impressed with both of them. It is hard to get past both teams 125lb-160lb murders row, but I give the edge to Cathedral. However, Perry has great wrestlers and great coaching staff so I might be wrong. The price of admision would be worth seeing Tonte-McGinley, Cook-Grey, Tasiff-McGinley, and Wood-Sulivan. Just a great match.
  19. 2002 275lb Brent Surface Michigan City 2nd Mike Pinter Penn 3rd Jon Sandberg North White 4th 2003 275lb Brent Surface Michigan City 1st Matt Overman Mishawaka 3rd John Sandberg North White 4th Merrillville dominated the 275lb class for two years. Not to mention Kasten and Larimore in the following years.
  20. I think it comes down to if you think that Cook will turn Spencer. Spencer should do better on their feet, but I give Cook a pinning chance. Spencer by 4+
  21. This weight is also very tough. There is two reasons why I noticed 189 more so than the 103 class. 1) I have seen all of the 189's I listed wrestle and they all looked very tough. Along the same note I have only seen 3 of the 103's wrestle. 2) I have a 189 pounder and I tend to notice what he has to wrestle more.
  22. After thinking about it for a minute, I have come to this conclusion. I would say that New Castle and Merrillville semi-states are the same. If you match up the two champs from each semi-state in last years results in a dual meet this would be the result: Brandon Nelson vs. Anthony Hawkins Nelson dec 3-0 Brandon Wright vs.Justin Brooks Wright dec 6-0 Chase' Quiroga vs. Donovan Alderman Cash dec 9-0 Brian Vest vs. Josh Harper Harper dec 9-3 Will Mascaro vs. Tommy Churchard Churchard dec 9-6 Calvin Sullivan vs. Eric Galka Galka dec 9-9 Chris Mascaro vs. Steven Sandefer Sandefer dec 9-12 Gavin McGinley vs. Brennan Cosgrove Cosgrove dec 9-15 Kyle Ulrey vs. Kyle Long Ulrey maj dec 13-15 Mike Duckworth vs. Andrew Howe Howe maj dec 13-19 Jacob Blackwell vs. Brandon James Blackwell dec 16-19 Nick Hodges vs. Jake Salas Hodges dec 19-19 Zach Hahn vs. George Malone Malone dec 19-22 Chico Adams vs. Randy Morin Chico dec 22-22 The match would have to go to criteria (probably first points scored). Even if you look a bit deeper, New Castle had 29 place winners and Merrillville had 35. A fairly close number could be closer depending on the draws Friday night. You go a little deeper, New Castle had 4 state champs and Merrillville had 5. Finally as deep as you can go New Castle had 12 finishers in the top 3 while Merrillville 14. These numbers are very close. That is why I have come to the conclusion that both semi-states are pretty much the same. I know that there are some changes in what has happened, for example Hawkins has a win this year over Nelson. However, I have Nelson winning in the dual meet score. The reason for this is that is what happened at state last year. In most cases the two wrestlers actually had a match at state last year and I used that for the dual results. I also used the state meet because that is when young men wrestle at the highest level. I would like to hear what you have to say.?
  23. I know that it has been discussed on what is the premier semi-state in Indiana wrestling. I go back and forth on this topic. Some semi-states are stronger than others, but I do not think that one is clearly more dominate than the other. I was looking at the rankings last night, and I realized the 189lb weight class at New Castle. You want to talk about a tough road look at these guys. #2 Nick Hodges Southmont #5 Andy Dalton East Central # 8 Michael Johnson-Jones Warren Central #11 Chaz Brock Crawfordsville #12 Patrick Lux Fishers #14 Daniel Sandberg Lawrence Central #16 Zach Garrity Hamilton Heights Depending on the draw at state, I am pretty sure that all four of the qualifiers out of this semi-state will be on the podium. I challenge someone to find a tougher weight class at any semi-state. Good luck!! ;D ;D
  24. William Campbell from Warren Central was a two time runner-up. 1998 he lost to Steven Bradley and in 1999 he lost to Randy Pursley. Besides maybe Randy Baker he might be the best wrestler to not be a state champ.
