  1. Yep. I broke my hand in the sectional semi-finals my junior year. Defaulted the championship and qualified for regional. Doctor told me I "would probably lose" but if I could take the pain I could wrestle. Thanks, Doc!!
  2. been at least 4. Elderkin, Schaefer, Coughlin and now Luigs.
  3. From my 30+ years watching MD wrestling. Only State Champs made the list 1. Maurer 2. Nick Lee (if he would have wrestled his sr year he would have been my #1) 3. Joe Lee 4. Coughlin 5. Schaefer 6. Craig Weinzapfel 7. Chip Elderkin 8. Gabe Zirkelbach 9. Brett Schnur 10. Dustin Nosko HM: Buzz Mieras, Matt Armentano, Nick Mayer, Sam Wilderman
  4. I would agree with you that outside of MD, Evansville wrestling is average at best. Look how many SQ's came from Evansville schools not named MD.
  5. Back then OT was 1 minute sudden victory. Then one 30 second period. The first person to score during regulation got choice. If bottom man got out he won. If top man rode him for 30 seconds, he won.
  6. Why only seniors for the IN team? You have underclassmen of the county team. Pretty easy, take the state champs at aren't from the county and line them up against the county all stars. Curtis dec Campbell 3-0 Team IN Garcia dec Viduya 3-3 Rooks dec Mills 6-3 Team IN White dec Mulkey 9-3 Bailey maj Miranda 13-3 Black pin Conley 19-3 B. Lee tech Crary 19-8 J. Lee pin Clark 25-8 Laughlin dec Brewer 28-8 Stock dec Ciccarelli 31-8 Walton dec Gray 31-11 Davison maj McCormick 35-11 Parris maj Larson 39-11 Ellis pin Clarke 45-11 County loses this one. Bonus points likely would be different and there are a couple of toss ups there, but this is how I see it playing out.
  7. Why are region guys all tatted up?
  8. 2003 MD, probably the best Indiana team ever.
  9. Matt Wills '91 HVY state champ. Don't know what he did previous years, but he pinned Frank Hammond ('92 state champ) in the finals in about a minute. Tossed him and then cradled him if I remember right. I think he also won senior nationals in '91.
  10. Average wrestlers have the chance to make it to state in our current system. Did we see an increase in the numbers at Turkey Run after their state champ several years ago?
  11. David McCubbins, Monrovia, has to be in the discussion. Look up his freestlye/greco accomplishments. Junior college champ as well.
  12. Not saying he didn't have a great career. Cummings did, as did Larson. For me, my number 1 criteria is being an undefeated senior state champ. From there, everything else would be a tie breaker. Since only seniors are eligible, I think you should be a greater emphasis on what they did as seniors. But that's just my opinion.
  13. No offense to Gunnar Larson (by all accounts he seems like a great kid), or Cummings, but if you didn't win a state title as a senior (or at all) then you shouldn't be in consideration.
  14. Didn't Will Hill also beat Brimm at state?
  15. Central busted out the black/purple singlets for the MD dual in 1992. No clue other than I remember hearing that their coach let their team pick them out and they all liked them.
  16. 1992 - McDaniel from Warren Central beat undefeated Tim Nosko from MD on Friday night with spladle. Tim beat the kid that finished 3rd that year probably 5x. In my mind Tim was at least the 2nd best 125 that year. It was a tough loss.
  17. Yep, MD is down (and very young). We also have some studs coming up through the ranks. Should be some good battles in the next few years.
  18. Was referring to enjoying the lack of #'s, but your confidence is staggering for a team that hasn't won a state title yet.
  19. Looks like 285 could have 3 unbeatens in the semi's. Nobody else can have more than 2.
  20. Hard to say for the old time coaches because they only used to place top 6. I know MD had tons of kids that won Friday night, but lost saturday morning and failed to place in the top 6. So looking at the data you wouldn't know if they won or lost it would only show that they qualified.
