  1. Sims lost to the the Welch at 152. He's down at 145 now and if he wrestles like he did against Reitz, he will lose. He seemed to gas pretty bad in the Reitz match, but held on to win.
  2. As good as Journey was, he beat me, so you know he had to be good , you can't put a guy with 0 state titles on the all decade team. Quickest guy I ever wrestled, that's for sure.
  3. It was inevitable. Although we MD fans expect to go to win the city, SIAC, sectionals, and go to state every year, that is probably a bit unreasonable. The wrestling in SW Indiana is getting stronger at a time when MD seems to have had a drop off in talent. I do expect them to bounce back and wrestle much better at sectionals, because if they don't it will be a long off season for them. How many teams around the country can say they were the best in their city for 32 straight years? Not many. We should be proud of that and continue working to get that title back from Reitz next year.
  4. 171 - MD fall 189 - R fall 215 - R 3-2 HVY - R fall 103 - R 12-6 112 - R major 119 - R 10-4? 125 - MD dec 130 - R dec 135 - R major 140 - MD dec 145 - MD dec 152 - R dec 160 MD fall
  5. MD was straight up out wrestled. They wanted this more. They got their share of bonus points as well. MD had no answer on the mat. Everytime Reitz got a take down, they threw in the legs and MD had no answer for that. They should have been ready for it since that was nothing new. Reitz 215 gassed bad, but MD could take advantage of that and lost 3-2. Sims gassed bad (at least that's what it looked like to me) and had to take injury time. Reitz almost pulled an upset there. Only 2 kids from MD looked ready for this match, Boots and Brandenstein. Everybody else looked like they were going through the motions. Sectionals will be interesting now. If MD wrestles like they did last night, I don't see them beating Reitz. Congratulations to Reitz on winning the city title. Congratulations to MD on a great 32 year run of city title. Maybe we can get it back next year.
  6. My picks: 103 - Terry 112 - Vega 119 - Cassidy 125 - Bradley 130 - Humphrey 135 - Escobedo 140 - Leavell 145 - Tsirtsis 152 - Coughlin (Hooper was damn good but Coughlin's HS/FS credentials give him the edge) 160 - Howe 171 - McCubbins - I'm an MD guy, but McCubbins won just about everything he entered in. if I remember right, he was on the Espoir world team a couple of times. It would be a great match and Blake could very well win, but I give the nod to McCubbins 189 - Greer would have 215 - Hummel - he was great, just wasn't in the right weight class HVY - Schneider - Larrimore was great his sr year, but he got pinned by an undersized Ruggieri (who was coached by Schneider I believe) I have the 90's guys winning 9 matches. I may be a little biased, but I think some people voting never saw these guys or just don't remember how good they really were.
  7. Brimm was good, but in my opinion he doesn't beat Greer.
  8. This is not based on number of state titles, but what I saw with my own eyes. 103 - Jason Terry 112 - Leroy Vega 119- Kelvin Jackson 125 - Steven Bradley 130 - Brandon Ingalls 135 - Billy Maldonado 140 - Andy Trevino 145 - James Leavell 152 - Brian Bailey 160 - Case Hooper 171 - David McCubbins 189 - Jason Greer 215 - DJ Radnovich HVY - Matt Wills This team would have given the team of the 00's a run for their money.
  9. That was in 1992, but Deckard wasn't the head coach at LN then. Those 4 and the countless others belong to Frank Svarczkopf.
  10. Sounds like something the AD's should talk about. I doubt much will come of it on this site.
  11. I didn't make it either, but this is what the paper had this morning: MD 64 Southridge 6 MD 75 South Oldham,KY 3 MD 42 Father Ryan, TN 16 MD 72 Pike Central 3 No line ups were given in the paper, just the scores. Looks like they did ok .
  12. How many team state titles have come out of Merriville?
  13. When and where did Alex beat Metcalf? Fargo Cadets maybe? I believe Metcalf handled him rather comfortably in the finals at JR. nationals when Alex was a sr and Metcalf a jr.
  14. He's never beaten Nickerson. If Nickerson is back at 125, they should meet in the finals. Both had bum shoulders this year. if they both come back healthy, I see Nickerson beating Angel in the finals next year.
  15. The MD team that beat them in the dual was ranked as high as 16th. LN was ranked around 20 when MD beat them, then they dropped out. Not saying you are incorrect, but to go from unranked to top 10 seems like a bit of a stretch. The rankings I'm referring to were in USA Today. Prehaps you are talking about a different set of rankings?
  16. Royce Deckard II...he beat Craig Elpers of MD in the finals that year.
  17. I think this hurts your class wrestling arguement. I thought you have said that with more opportunities for small school wrestlers to make it to state they'd be more likely to be noticed by colleges, etc. etc. and wrestling in our state would grow. But now you are saying that they must place at national tournaments and sell themselves to colleges in order to get those opportunities. Which is it?
  18. Fabio, have you seen Castle this year? If not, then you are not remotely qualified to say whether or not Castle is a contender. They have the second most state qualifiers, so that alone makes them a contender. They are very solid from 130-215...opponents in those weights better be ready to wrestle.
  19. Still, Weinzapfel and Nosko were pinners. Weinzapfel got back pts on Tsirtsis so I think he could have to Joe A. as well. I think Nosko's length/leverage would have given Kite fits. I'm sure your length have him all sorts of problems in practice.
  20. I think the '03 team gets bonus pts at 152 and possibly at 145 and 130. At 215, those Unfried boys love the spladle, so you never know there. 160 would have been a good one to see as well. I think it would be close either way, but I tend to give the nod to the 03 team.
  21. I agree with what Nick said. Not to pile on the seniors, but seems like the same thing happened in football. Started the year great and faded badly by sectionals.
  22. When you lose 6 of 8 in the ticket round, that will usually thin the herd a little bit. Chalk it up to being in extremely unfamiliar territory and not knowing what to do with a February Saturday afternoon free from wrestling.
  23. Goldman was at the Evansville SS this weekend. His boy was wrestling for Bloomington North. I'm sure he was using the opportunity to do a little scouting as well.
  24. MD spanked Merriville worse than CP did. I know that you can't really compare teams like that, but Fabio is incorrect when he says MD never wrestled top competition. Their trips to St. Louis and Cincy weren't exactly against cupcakes. Believe it or not, there are good teams outside our border... Go ahead and overlook Castle...they just might surprise some people.
  25. No way does half the SIAC have a legit shot at winning the conference. It's basically MD and Castle at this point with Memorial and Reitz fighting it out for a distant 3rd.
