But over the years, they have failed to keep guys like Howe, Tsirtsis (x2), Maurer, Micic and Humphrey. That's 21 titles that left the state. Red is leaving with his 3 (maybe 4) titles. Nick Lee will be leaving with 2-3 titles. If you can't keep these guys, how in the world will you be able to attract blue chippers from other states?
Totally agree. But 4 titles doesn't necessarily mean most dominant. I'd take Andrew Howe and his 3 titles as being more dominant. Lance Ellis was more dominant. Alex Tsistsis was more dominant.
Regardless if Red wins this weekend or not, he's had a career that 99.9% of us on this board could only dream of.
No, and I believe that it is unlikely that it happened in years ago when Bloomington was ruling IN. The qualification for each level of the tournament series has changed a lot over the years, so it is probably "easier" to do it now. MD qualified 11 one year, maybe '95 or '96.
My daughter is an 8th grader at one of the MD feeder schools. She has about 30 kids in her class. All but a handful are going to MD. I think she said maybe 5 are going to Reitz or Signature School.
Full wrestle backs is the best answer to getting a true team champion with the current format. The Blake Jourdan/Brayton Lee match in the ticket round will have significant impact not only on the semi-state team race, but next week's team race as well (I'm sure that there are other examples from other SS). Full wrestle backs would allow both of them to move on (more than likely) and score much needed team points next week at state.
I would also say that if the coaches of those teams that have less than 7 wrestlers are members of the IHSWCA that they should be included in the IHSWCA event.
I'm not convinced that Bethel handled the tenacity all that well. Lee was up 7-2 when the fall occurred. After Lee put Bethel on his back, Bethel looked out on his feet. Took a long time to get back to the middle and get ready to go. Lee cut him and Bethel rolled through on a shot by Lee and got him. Great job by Bethel to get it done. I think it was a case of Joe's tenacity working against him.
